This study was aimed at investigating whether or not there was a significant effect of the implementation of Big Book as media on reading comprehension achievement of the fifth grade students. This study was conducted in SD Laboratorium Undiksha Singaraja in the form of an experimental research with post-Test only Control Group Design. The population was the fifth grade in which two classes were selected as the sample of the study. Then, the samples were decided as the experimental group and control group by using lottery. The experimental group was taught by using Big Book as media and the control group was taught by using conventional media. The data were analyzed by using t-test through SPSS 17.0. The result of the data analysis showed that students in experimental group performed better than the students in the control group. It was proven by the result of the descriptive statistics that showed the mean score of the experimental group was 85.51 while the mean score of the control group was 75.56. The result of the t-test also showed that the value of Sig (2-tailed) 0.000 was less than 0.05. It can be concluded that there was a significant difference of reading comprehension achievement between students treated with big book as media and those treated using conventional media at fifth grade of elementary school in SD Laboratorium Undiksha Singaraja.

This study is aimed at investigating the difference of students’ civics achievement between those who are taught by Think Pair Share model based on concept mapping and those who are taught by conventional learning model of the fifth grade students in Elementary School of Cluster I in Petang District. It is a quasi-experimental research using non-equivalent post-test only control group design. The population of this research is 102 students in grade V in Elementary School of Cluster I Petang District. The samples of this research are fifth grade students of SD Negeri 3 Carangsari as experimental group and fifth grade students of SD Negeri 1 Carangsari as control group. The data of civics achievement were collected by using multiple choice tests. The data obtained were analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistical analysis (t-test). The result showed that tcount= 3,83 and ttable = 2,03 (tcount>ttable) which can be concluded that there are significant difference between the students’ civics achievement between those who were taught by Think Pair Share learning model based on concept mapping and those who were taught by the conventional learning model in grade V in Elementary School of Cluster I Petang District of Badung Regency in academic year 2017/2018.

This study aimed at investigating of the effect of using word family game committed by the fifth grade student in SD Negeri 1 Astina in mastering the English vocabulary. This study was True-Experimental with post-test only control group design. The population was 59 students of the fifth grade and the sample was selected by using cluster random sampling. The sample of this research study was 22 students in 5A as an Experimental Group while 22 students in 5B as a Control Group. The experimental group was taught by using Word Family Game and control group was taught without using Word Family Game. The data was analyzed descriptively and inferentially through SPSS 16.0 Program. Descriptively, the students in experimental group were achieved better than the students in control group. It was proven by the result of the mean score of the experimental group was 90.45, while the mean score of control group was 83.18. The result of the t-test also showed that the score of the (tobs) was 3.393 which the score of (tcv) was 1.682 which based on the degree of freedom was 42. It showed that the (tobs) > (tcv), where: 3.393 > 1.682. It could be concluded that the word family game had a significant effect on the students’ vocabulary mastery rather than using conventional teaching.

The purposes of this study are to find out the effect of REAP strategy on reading comprehension of the fifth grade elementary students of third cluster of Kotagede Yogyakarta. The research method in this study was quasi-experimental with Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design. The population was all of fifth grade elementary students of third cluster of Kotagede Yogyakarta. The sample was fifth grade students of SD Baluwarti, SD Kotagede 1, and SD Kotagede 5 Yogyakarta that were establised by cluster random sampling technique. The data were collected using tests. The validity of the instrument was measured in terms of content and construct validity. The reliability of the instrument was stated good with the score of Cronbach’s Alpha = 0,734. The data of this study were analized by independent sample t-test and Manova with Hotteling’s Trace formula. The result showed that REAP strategy gave a positive and significant effect on reading comprehension that is proved by the score of t-test = 4,914 and 3,286 with sig = 0,000 and 0,002. Based on the result, it can be concluded that REAP strategy gives positive and significant effect on reading comprehension of the fifth grade elementary students of third cluster of Kotagede Yogyakarta.

This research was intended to investigate the effect of a culture-based approach in improving students’ reading comprehension on spoof text. For that purpose, a true experimental study was applied to the eleventh-grade students of SMAN 1 Soreang. The sample of this study was 88 students from that school. These students were divided equally into the control and experimental group. The experimental group was given the Culture-Based Approach (CBA) as the treatment in comprehending the text. The students’ scores of pre-test and post-test from both groups were statistically analyzed and compared by the T-test. The findings could be summarized that generally, students from the experimental group gained better achievement than from the control group on their post-test scores. The data analysis also showed that there was a significant difference between the mean score of the pre-test (53.45) and the post-test (58.39.). Furthermore, the result of the t-test (5.707) was relatively higher than the t- table (2.018) for a 0.5 percent level of significance. It indicated that the students’ achievement was significantly improved after the treatment of using a Culture-Based Approach. Thus, it is recommended that a Culture-Based Approach should be considered as an alternative choice for English teachers in teaching spoof text.

This study aimed at investigating the effect of Augmented Reality (AR) on college-level EFL students’ reading comprehension, self-efficacy, autonomy and attitudes. It also examined the relationships between self-efficacy, autonomy and attitudes. The sample consisted of (59) male students: an experimental group (n=30) and a control group (n=29), studying English for Academic Purposes at Taif University, Saudi Arabia. The study employed the quasi-experimental approach using a pre-post, nonequivalent control group design. A reading comprehension test, a self-efficacy scale, an autonomy scale and a questionnaire for attitudes were designed to gather the data. The findings indicated that there was a significant difference between the two groups in the reading comprehension post-test in favor of the experimental group. Also, there was a statistically significant difference between the mean score of the pre and post administration of the self-efficacy scale in favor of the post administration. Besides, there was a statistically significant difference between the mean score of the pre and post administration of the autonomy scale in favor of the post administration. The results of one-sample T Test showed that all attitudes items were statistically significant and the grand mean score was statistically significant which indicated that students had positive attitudes towards using Augmented Reality in language learning. Finally, positive significant relationships between students’ self-efficacy, autonomy and attitudes were found.

The objective of this research was to find whether collaborative strategic reading was effective to improve students’ reading comprehension on SMPN 1 Gondanglegi Malang. The participants are students from 8D and 8C Class. The first group was 8D as the experimental group, and the control group was 8C. The data mainly came from statistical results, including the questionnaire responses. The scores of both groups were analyzed by using independent sample t-test. The result of independent sample t-test showed that the probability (p) was less than level of significant which is 0.05, it was .000. It means there is a significant difference between students who are taught by using Collaborative Strategic Reading than they who are not. The mean score obtained by experimental group was higher than the mean score obtained by the control group (74.58 > 62.66). It shows that there was a positive effect after applying Collaborative Strategic Reading in the experimental group. Thus, it can be concluded that Collaborative Strategic Reading is effective to improve students’ reading comprehension.
