The article considers the mechanism ofrepresenting the hidden curriculum in the discourse of EFL textbooks, i.e. the transmission ofsociocultural norms and values of native speakers to foreign students. To do this the authors make a brieftheoretical review of this problem and demonstrate the results of the comparative discourse analysis of two popular textbooks, the one of the pre-globalization age and the present-day one. The authors provide evidence for their idea of the dual role, which English plays today being simultaneously a national language of different English-speaking societies and the global lingua franca. The conducted discourse analysis is based on the analysis of semiotic means, which are used to nominate concepts basic to any society and culture. In the article, the authors demonstrate their own plan of analysis by the example of the "gender" concept. The gender concept shows social and cultural conditionality of distinctions in behavior and the identity of men and women. The comparative analysis of gender markers in the discourse of EFL textbooks reveals a global vector of transformation and distribution ofsociocultural values. Authors state that cultural expansion through English teaching is an instrument of smart power. It is suggested using the mechanism of transmission ofsociocultural norms and values, which is analyzed in the research, to create Russian textbooks for foreign students.

This chapter describes the development of the fetus in the fourth month of pregnancy. As the author learns the sex of her own baby, she explores a discussion of gender and sex throughout development. Specifically, she addresses the development of sex organs prenatally and how biological sex should be differentiated from the construct of gender using examples from the animal literature to illustrate how sometimes even biological sex can be determined by environmental circumstances. The chapter also includes a lengthy discussion of the development of gender concept and gender identity in children and how parents’ expectations might affect the development of gender-stereotyped behavior.

Based on the data of the 2015 China General Social Survey (CGSS), this article empirically analyzed the influence of gender concept, work pressure, and work flexibility on work–family conflict (work interfering family (WIF) and family interfering work (FIW)) from three perspectives (gender, age, and urban and rural areas in China) and tested its significance. The empirical results show that individuals holding the concept of gender inequality produced lower WIF and FIW, which only exists between sexual relations, older working people, and urban and rural areas. Multicultural exchange and integration only made it easier for working people under the age of 30 to accept the concept of gender equality, but it increased their WIF and FIW. Second, with the development of the economy and society of China, the work pressure of workers is the most important factor causing WIF and FIW. Lastly, in order to cope with the pressure of employment and the cost of living, it is difficult to ease the conflict between work and family.

The article discusses the contents of the gender concept “woman” in French mass media by means of concept analyzing modern mass media texts. The concept is described with a detailed analysis of its core and periphery, with the help of construction of a taxonomic model in order to substantiate the following hypothesis: the content of the concept has changed by virtue of social development of French society. Nevertheless, the inference states the heterogeneity of the nucleus. The hypothesis has not been proven, since due to the main semantic content of the concept, it is still difficult to assert about the modification of its components.
