The paper deals with the phenomenon of abbreviation of in the modern English vocabulary for the military. The term «abbreviation» is analyzed and causes of the appearance of abbreviations in the language are identified. A brief classification of lexical abbreviations is given and the main ways of their forming, based on the material of the military discourse of the modern English, are also considered.

The article shows that the specificity of artistic speech in comparison with journalistic speech is due to the structure of speech. The main feature of the structure of artistic speech is the discrepancy between the producer of speech (the author) and its subject. The presence of a narrator is a prerequisite for artistic speech. The article analyzes the nature of the speech representation of the narrator in publicistic and artistic speech.

The article discusses the contents of the gender concept “woman” in French mass media by means of concept analyzing modern mass media texts. The concept is described with a detailed analysis of its core and periphery, with the help of construction of a taxonomic model in order to substantiate the following hypothesis: the content of the concept has changed by virtue of social development of French society. Nevertheless, the inference states the heterogeneity of the nucleus. The hypothesis has not been proven, since due to the main semantic content of the concept, it is still difficult to assert about the modification of its components.

The paper considers the semantic and structural features of synonymous nouns pain / hurt / ache from the perspective of cognitive linguistics. The study is based on the data from British and American English. The paper reveals the peculiarities of the semantic zones, where the investigated words are relevant and clarifies their definition. The study specifies the functioning of basic nouns that are used for pain description in the English language.

The paper focuses on the results of cognitive research into the language conceptualization of CURRENT/PRESENT. The concept is represented by a cluster of English adjectives – current, operating, present, running – and Russian adjectives – настоящий, текущий. In the paper, we shall consider a complex research procedure based on hypothesis-deduction method, corpus-based experiment and the analysis of search engine results which is often referred to as triangulation. The author provides a cognitive model of a concept to reveal mechanisms responsible for the speaker’s choice of a particular lexical unit.

The article is devoted to studying neologisms of the German language of the last decades in the thematic group "Freizeit". Basing on new words in an online dictionary and a database of neologisms of the modern German language, a lexical-semantic analysis of lexical innovations is carried out. The vocabulary of the German language is studied in order to highlight the prevailing subgroups in the thematic group "Freizeit", to show the origin of neologisms. The analysis of lexical innovations allows us to draw a conclusion about the connection of neologisms with the changes in public life.

The methodological platform of the research the autopoiesis theory which allows us to model communication as the interaction between the communicant and his/her niche. The formation of foreign language speech competence of students is a complex process. To ensure the effectiveness of this process it is important to take into account not only the stage of teaching a foreign language and the nature of the language material, but also the psychological and physiological characteristics of students who are seriously affected by modern information technologies. This article describes the method of developing speech competence in English lessons in a secondary school using authentic cartoons. The methodology is based on the stable and widespread in Western and Russian psychology ideas about the psychological and pedagogical features of generations Z and Alpha, characterized by the development of clip thinking and the peculiarities of perception and processing of information.
