<p>This study was aimed at investigating the difficulties and problems faced by non-English major lecturers when they were taking a part in English discussion. This study was a qualitative descriptive research involving 10 non-English major lecturers who took a part in a twice-a-week discussion so-called English Corner. To collect the data, in-depth interview and observation were used. The collected data were analyzed by using Miles and Huberman’s interactive data analysis data model consisting of data reduction, data display and data verifying. The result of the study showed that those barriers could be classified into three problems namely socio-cultural, linguistic and interpersonal problems. The found barriers were expected to be a consideration to find out the solution to make the betterment of English learning among lecturers with the non-English background of study.</p>

Essentially, K2S was established to be an unified forum for all Javanese in Kupang City and its surroundings. K2S was a kinship independent social organization which is not affiliated with other social political or community organizations. The main objective of K2S was to develop family relations, brotherhood, togetherness and harmonization between K2S members, maintain and develop the values of Javanese art and culture, tradition, supporting faith activities, strengthen worship, and enhance morals of K2S members based on their dogma and it was also for contributions of Kupang city development. This study was done to ascertain the efforts of K2S in improving education of Islamic community in Kupang city. In this qualitative descriptive research, the data was gathered through interviews, observation, and documentation. The data was analyzed use the interactive data analysis models by Milles and Huberman. The study showed that the Javanese social harmony intercaction (K2S) took part in: 1. Social community aspects; 2. member’s training and empowerments; 3. spirituality; 4. Arts and culture.

The aim of this research is to describe the Islamic values in the process of teaching English. This research was conducted at SD Labschool FIP UMJ for about 3 months starting from June 2018 until August 2018. This study focuses on English teaching and learning process at 4th graders. The study applied a qualitative descriptive research method which used observation and documents as the instruments in collecting the data. The writers observed both the school and 4th grade class and used the syllabus, lesson plan and English textbook as the documents. The analysis of the data showed that the Islamic values had been being well-built in the area of the school together with the school activities. While in the class observation the writer found that the Islamic values were not being applied yet in the process of teaching and learning English, besides, it was also found that syllabus, lesson plan, and textbook did not insert any Islamic values at all either in the content of the materials or in the teaching and learning activities. Thus this research study concludes that the Islamic values did not fully exist yet in the process of teaching English to the 4th graders of SD Labschool FIP UMJ.

As a medium of communication, a song has a great impact on children’s development. A small number of children song generate children to sing adult songs, however, there are some adult songs which are not suitable the children in relation to lyrics and theme. The incomprehension of the lyrics and meaning existed in the song can be psychologically influential for the child’s development. This study analyzes the role of Walt Disney’s cartoon soundtracks for character education to children. This is a qualitative-descriptive research, taking observation and in-depth interview to 10 informants who have children of 7-11 years old in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The results stated that the soundtracks How Far I’ll Go and Let It Go bring positive characters in contents that are useful for character education. The character education taken from lyrics of the songs is conveyed and developed by vocabulary enrichment, the discussion in easy-digested language, and storytelling. These require special time. The good changes in children’s good characters happen by time and process. Therefore, character education needs to be continued and developed in different ways.

The advancement of digital technology today has boosted opportunities for teachers to apply digital products in promoting teaching and encouraging the learning process. Knowing how students perceive the use of digital technology is playing a significant role in supporting the achievement of an accommodating learning environment for students. This study is intended to investigate the students' perception of Duolingo as an English learning medium. It belongs to qualitative descriptive research. The data were gathered from an online questionnaire and interview and then analyzed descriptively. The result demonstrates students perceived positively toward applying Duolingo Application as a tool to facilitate English language learning at Senior High school it is interesting, motivating, helpful, encourages students' confidence, and is compatible across Junior High school to University students. However, students also perceived it’s weakness, it is too colorful and words repetition.

This study aims to describe teachers perception on the implementation of sustainable development-based learning in chemistry, physics and biology subjects. This research is a qualitative descriptive research. The subjects of the research are the chemistry, physics and biology teachers in nine provinces. The data was collected by using interview sheets, questionnaire and observation sheets. According to the analysis data, the result shows that the term sustainable development is still considered foreign by 77,7% of the teachers, the implementation of sustainable development-based learning can be carried out in very good category by 55.5% of the teachers and in good category by 44,44% of the teachers, and 33.3% of teachers have difficulties in implementing sustainable development-based learning. Other results also show that the concept of sustainable development allows it to be applied in all three subjects with the characteristics of the material relating to the environment.

<p><em>Kalisoro urban village is one of the tourist areas facing the issue of rising pile of garbage and the lack of knowledge of the waste. Especially in waste management this problem really needs more attention. Society involvement support is required in this waste management. Kalisoro Village waste management is an independent waste management village which involves the community. In this management, using the Reuse, Minimize, and Recycle 3R process. This study aims to explain the participation of independent waste village management by identifying the phases of participation society, the level of participation society and the factors affecting participation in the group. This study is presented in qualitative descriptive form, using in-depth interview technique in data collection and also using interactive data analysis technique for data triangulation. In this study, the culture represented by the Non-Governmental Organisations manages the consequence of involvement society in the management of the autonomous waste villages. Society ways of engagement are to contribute ideas, resources, funds, and engage in waste collection. But not all Kalisoro Village groups participated directly. In Kalisoro Village the level of participation society involves Citizen Power.</em></p><p><strong><em>Keywords: </em></strong>Participation; Society; Kalioso</p>

This paper discusses service-based leadership in Islamic schools. Leadership demands a transformation from the heart and changes in character. True leadership starts from within and then moves outside to serve those they lead. This is where the importance of the character and integrity of a leader to become a true leader and accepted by other people or parties. This research is a qualitative-descriptive research which is expected to be able to uncover various information with a careful and meaningful description-analysis. Data sources in this study include principals, staff, students. Data collection is done by interview, observation, and documentation. As for the data analysis techniques through the stages of data reduction, data presentation and data analysis. The results of this research are (a) the principal's leadership has a variety of models that are extraordinary depending on the situation and conditions. (b) Service-based leadership is a new trend for achieving desired quality goals.

Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kompetensi pedagogis guru dalam pembelajaran seksual pada anak autis usia remaja di SLB Fajar Nugraha Yogyakarta. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Data dikumpulkan dengan observasi, wawancara, dan studi dokumentasi. Analisis data dilakukan secara kualitatif yang terdiri dari mereduksi data, menyajikan data, dan membuat kesimpulan. Pemeriksaan keabsahan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan triangulasi teknik dan triangulasi sumber. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa guru melaksanakan kompetensi pedagogis dalam pembelajaran seksual anak autis usia remaja sesuai Peraturan Pemerintah Nomor 74 Tahun 2008 tentang Guru dalam Pasal 3 Ayat 4. Guru mengetahui landasan pendidikan seksual dan pentingnya pembelajaran seksual untuk anak autis. Guru juga memahami karakter anak autis usia remaja dan mengembangkan program pembelajaran seksual sesuai karakter anak autis usia remaja. Guru melaksanakan pembelajaran seksual dengan menggunakan berbagai variasi metode dan media. Guru juga memanfaatkan teknologi dalam pembelajaran seksual untuk anak autis, namun pemanfaatan teknologi elektronik belum optimal. Guru melaksanakan evaluasi dalam pembelajaran seksual dan mengembangkan perilaku seksual pada anak autis usia remaja dengan pembiasaan dalam kegiatan sehari-hari.Kata Kunci: kompetensi pedagogis, pembelajaran seksual, autisAbstract: This study aims to know about teacher pedagogical competences in sexual learning for adolescents with autism at Fajar Nugraha Special School of Yogyakarta. This research is qualitative descriptive research. The data is collected by observation, interview, and document analysis. Data analysis in this research is qualitative analysis that contains data reduction, data display, and verification. The data validity in this research is technical triangulation and sources triangulation. The result of this research shows that subjects understand and implement the pedagogical competences in sexual learning for adolescents with autism that is accordance with The Regulation of Government 74 Year 2008 Abour Teacher, Article 3, Verse 4. The teachers know the foundation and importance of sexual learning for autism. The teachers know characteristics of adolescents with autism and develop the sexual learning program according to the characteristics of adolescents with autism. The teachers use various methods and medias in sexual learning. The teachers also use the technology in sexual learning for adolescent with autism, but using electronical technology hasn’t be optimized. The teachers evaluate the results learning from sexual learning and develop sexual behavior to adolescent with autism by habituation in daily life.Keyword: pedagogical competence, sexual learning, autism

Abstract: The Ahmadiyah confl icts in Indonesia often ended up tragically. However, in Tasikmalaya, some confl icts could be immediately diminished. This research tries to fi nd communication effort conducted by FKUB of Tasikmalaya district in diminishing Ahmadiyah confl ict during 2012-2014. Using qualitative descriptive research with in-depth interview and observation as the methods, this research reveals that FKUB’s communication efforts include listening the aspirations fromboth parties, conducting survey, and research to approach Jemaat Ahmadiyah Indonesia (JAI) and concluding that confl ict could be diminished through economic empowerment.Abstrak: Konfl ik Ahmadiyah yang terjadi di beberapa daerah di Indonesia umumnya berakhir tragis. Namun, di Tasikmalaya konfl ik dapat segera diredam. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui upaya komunikasi yang dilakukan FKUB Kabupaten Tasikmalaya dalam meredam konfl ik Ahmadiyah yang terjadi pada kurun waktu 2012-2014. Peneliti menggunakan deskriptif kualitatif dengan metode pengumpulan data wawancara mendalam dan observasi langsung saat terjadi konfl ik. Melalui penelitian ini terlihat bahwa upaya komunikasi FKUB dimulai dengan mendengarkan aspirasi kedua belah pihak, melakukan survei dan riset sebagai pendekatan kepada pihak Jemaat Ahmadiyah Indonesia (JAI), dan pemberdayaan di bidang ekonomi.

Student experiences information process causing particular behaviors while studying. Neuroscience is a study to understand behavior and mental process based on brain activity. In Indonesian, collaborative study between education and medicine on preschool-aged children’s neuroscience is still scarce. In fact that using this collaboration, some elements related to student’s behavior and information process can be seen. This paper spells out potential collaborative studies on neuroscience of preschool-aged children. This study is categorized into qualitative descriptive research. The data were collected through an in-depth interview with the head of education and research section of UNS Hospital and document study. The result of the study found a number of potential collaborative studies between UNS Hospital and ECE department of UNS, namely: 1) Assessing level of stress using Bio-neurofeedback; 2) Assessing Learning comfort using Electroencephalograph; 3) Assessing Interest and Aptitude using Electroencephalograph; and 4) Therapy on Gadget Addiction using Bio-neurofeedback. Those findings can be used as a basic for further research about neuroscience in early childhood.
