Purpose. The present work investigates the impact of the pedagogy approaches in the teaching e-resource of low-motivated students.Materials and Methods. The pilot study involves about 1000 first-year undergraduates of the North-West Institute of Management of the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (NWIM RANEPA). Introductory part of the lecture is traditional. “Motivational” part varies depending on e-resource and includes a demonstration of all possible advantages for target audience — uniqueness, quality, advantages over open resources. In addition, the material is organized so as to provide multiple entries into the interface.Results. We studied statistics of visits to e-resources for 2 calendar years (before the introduction of new methods in 2016 and after — in 2017), and conducted surveys of students at the end of training. We got the apparent increase of visits when the pedagogical approach and the methods of training are changed.Discussion and conclusions. Research findings have illustrated the importance of support to the low-motivated students in their educational process by new approaches to the training. The librarian-teacher in this role is the link between the e-resource and the consumer, and their role is important for achieving the best results for both the organization and students. The authors are conscious that the interest in subscription resources would probably decline in the future. The keeping this interest is beyond the scope of this study. The data obtained and the conclusions made can be useful at all stages of the students’ training at any year of study.

The article considers the possibility of using non-traditional recreational facilities in the educational process with university students. The purpose of the study is to assess the impact of the developed methodology for fitball gymnastics and fitness yoga on the health level of students. To achieve the goal, the following tasks were set: theoretically substantiate the proposed methodology of classes; identify and conduct a comparative analysis of adaptive potential according to the method of R.M. Baevsky and the level of the functional state of first-year students during an experimental study. Scientific novelty lies in the expansion of theoretical and practical approaches to physical education at the university. The positive impact of the proposed teaching methods on the level of functional readiness of first-year students is substantiated and experimentally proved. To improve the methodology, a set of methods was used: analysis of scientific and methodological literature, the method of pedagogical research, pedagogical experiment, methods of mathematical statistics.

Background: The Integrated Primary Care (IPC) rotation is undertaken over six weeks by final year medical students at the University of Witwatersrand. Students are placed in either rural or urban primary health care centres based in Gauteng or the North West Province. As part of the IPC rotation, students undertake short quality improvement (QI) projects. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the impact of the QI projects undertaken over the period stretching from 2006 to 2010. Methods: An observational study of QI reports done by students. Project reports assessed and compared to site marks, indicators of learning assessed and individual and group marks compared. Results: Of 274 projects undertaken, 223 (81.4%) were available for evaluation. Geographical placements and QI themes were categorised. Management issues were most frequently identified as being problematic followed by chronic illnesses. Understanding and applying the principles of QI was partially achieved and gaps were identified for future projects. The most common intervention was training of personnel and design and distribution of posters or pamphlets. Conclusions: Most QI projects were well thought out and relevant to the chosen setting. In the majority of cases, a great deal of effort and creativity went into the process and skills other than clinical skills were employed such as writing, presentation of data in graphs and tables. Integration of theory and practice was achieved only partially.

The article presents the results of the study of the impact of knowledge sections of elementary mathematics on the study of higher mathematics by students of Pskov State University. The analysis is based on the knowledge of the elementary mathematics sections tested on a unified state exam (USE). The most important sections of USE's monitoring materials have been identified for the study. The results of these assignments are given to school leavers who have enrolled in 2018 and 2019 at Pskov State University. The regression analysis method examined the impact of USE results on higher mathematics by students studying at the university's technical areas. The regression rate, which indicates the strength of the link between the results of higher and elementary mathematics, is about 40%. Recommendations are made for the organization of the educational process of studying higher mathematics, taking into account the low level of knowledge of school mathematics entering the first year of the university

The aim of this study was to establish the impact of the North-West University’s language policy on its library’s print collections. It analyses the languages represented by books held by the North-West University Library and Information Services. The article further established the strategies used by the libraries to develop, preserve and promote African languages in support of the university’s language policy. The paper employed bibliometrics and focus group interviews to gather data. The findings revealed that books in African languages that were recognised by the university were difficult to get on the market. As a result, the majority of books accessioned by the libraries were in English, followed by Afrikaans, and relatively few books in Setswana, and Sesotho. The study is the first of its kind focusing on language policy and academic libraries in South Africa. It is valuable to both policy makers and librarians in their endeavours to develop sizeable African language collections in support of the curricula and research. Among the recommendations is that African language departments at various universities should collaborate with libraries to start open access African language journals, and publish them through the institutional repositories.

Digital economy provides great opportunities for the development of regional entities in all fields of activity. However, digitalization processes are connected with inevitable problems, uncertainty and risks. Digital economy can create new opportunities for citizens of the Russian Federation, such as getting state services, increasing the level of information openness and accessibility, cutting bureaucratic barriers. The article investigates the key lines in digitalization in the North-West Federal district. It was found out that in all 11 entities of the Federal district necessary legislative acts, strategies and other program documents for digital transformation are available. These documents are aimed at stimulating and developing digital technologies. Digital economy needs competent experts. Thus it is essential to create conditions for personnel training, education system and labour market upgrading. The impact of digital transformation on social and economic processes is obvious, however, a lot of its aspects are still poorly investigated. Academic research pays insufficient attention to digital change influence on innovation activity of regional entities, staff and information security. The article analyzes different criteria affecting the potential development of digital economy and social and economic development of the North-West Federal district. This analysis gave an opportunity to demonstrate prospects of the Federal district further development. The research findings can be used in the process of designing and amending regional strategic programs of developing digital society and as a material for further theoretical and practical research in the field of digital processes development in regional systems.

Oreochromis mossambicus is currently receiving much attention as a candidater species for aquaculture programs within Southern Africa. This has stimulated interest in its breeding cycle as well as the morphological characteristics of the gonads. Limited information is available on SEM and TEM observations of the male gonads. It is known that the testis of O. mossambicus is a paired, intra-abdominal structure of the lobular type, although further details of its characteristics are not known. Current investigations have shown that spermatids reach full maturity some two months after the female becomes gravid. Throughout the year, the testes contain spermatids at various stages of development although spermiogenesis appears to be maximal during November when spawning occurs. This paper describes the morphological and ultrastructural characteristics of the testes and spermatids.Specimens of this fish were collected at Syferkuil Dam, 8 km north- west of the University of the North over a twelve month period, sacrificed and the testes excised.

The issue of adaptation of modern first-year students to the educational process at the university is one of the current pedagogical tasks. Successful adaptation significantly affects the quality of received education, the degree of formation of personal and professional qualities, contributes to the development of motivation, self-education, and self-development. The purpose of the research is to substantiate the criteria, indicators, and levels of adaptation of first-year students to the learning process at the university. The material for the study was the domestic scientific sources of studying the peculiarities of the adaptation process of students to educational activities in higher education. Research methods: analysis and generalization of psychological-pedagogical and educational-methodical literature on the research topic. We determine as the main criteria for the adaptation of first-year students to the university, the adaptive potential and professionally important qualities of students, consider these concepts, their structure, and their basic properties. On the basis of the analysis and generalization of the existing indicators of the implementation of the adaptive potential, we formulate the author's indicators for determining the level of its development. The degree of formation of professionally important qualities of students are low, medium, and high levels of development of emotional intelligence, negative communicative attitude, intellectual lability, and stress tolerance.
