DEVELOPING MATHEMATICAL CREATIVE THINKING AND PROBLEM SOLVING ABILITY THROUGH DISCUSSION METHOD Abstract: This study is aimed at determining the contribution of generative learning model using discussion method to the development of creative thinking ability and mathematics problem solving at different levels (high, medium, low). This study is a quasi-experimental research involving 89 first semester mathematics students represesenting different levels. Data were collected through test and analyzed using t-test, and two-way ANOVA. The results of the study are: (1) the creative thinking ability of students in experiment class and that of students in controll class are different, (2) the KPMM of experiement class and that of control class are different, (3) learning and KAM level have no correlation with creative thinking ability, and (4) learning and KAM level have no correlation mathematics problem solving ability. Keywords: Creative thinking ability, mathematics problem solving, discussion method

General agreement can be found that verbal problem solving is one of the most important yet one of the most difficult-to-teach topics in elementary school mathematics. Many authors have expressed the opinion that children perform better in mathematics problem-solving situations when diagrams or pictures of the problems are provided by the teacher to elicit appropriate mental images (e.g., Driscoll 1979; Nelson 1974; Riedesel 1969; Threadgill-Sowder and Sowder 1982).

Abstract:  This is a qualitative descriptive research. The purpose of this research is to know the ability of mathematics problem solving in doing Junior High Olympics for students of grade IX SMP N 8 Salatiga. The research subjects consist of 4 students selected by purposive sampling technique. Based on the results of tests and interviews are known that all subjects did not meet the five stages of Krulik & Rudnick in question number 1. In the first step of reading and thinking phase, the subject has made a mistake in understanding the problem. Meanwhile, in question number 2 only 1 subject who is not able to pass the fifth stage at the stage of Krulik and Rudnick theory, that is reflect and extend.

Kata kunci : Open-Ended Problem, Kemampuan Berpikir Kreatif, Kemampuan Pemecahan Masalah This research was aimed to explain how the effectiveness of using the open-ended problem model  on creative thinking skills and problem solving abilities. The type of this research was Pre Experimental Design with one group pretest posttest design. The results showed that there was a significant effect on creative thinking skills (tcount = 31.47 which is greater than ttable = 1.69) and students' problem solving abilities (tcount = 4, 95 which is greater than ttable = 1.69), who were taught to use the open-ended problem model for creative thinking ability variables and problem solving ability variables. With the results of the N-gain test of 0.74 for the creative thinking skills and 0.63 for the N-gain test on problem solving abilities, it can be concluded that the open-ended problem model is effectively applied to creative thinking skills and students' problem solving abilities. Keywords: Open-Ended Problem, Creative Thinking Skills, Problem Solving Ability

Few topics in the elementary school mathematics curriculum are a greater waste of time than division of fractional numbers. It is seldom used to solve problems, and those problems which children are taught to solve by division of fractional numbers are dealt with just as adequately by resorting to multiplication.

The purpose of this research is to know the relationship of Group Investigation model with creative thinking ability and problem solving ability. Model Group Investigation is a group-based learning model where students are given opportunities to discuss, think critically, and be responsible for the learning. The research method used is experimental method, with sampling technique used is Purposive Sample. The instrument used in this research is the observation sheet of student activity, the question of creative thinking ability and the problem solving test problem. The test used is Pearson Product Moment correlation test, ANOVA Factorial test, and uji t. The results of this study are: (1) student activity in learning mathematics by using Group Investigation model overall percentage reaches 65,6% and included in good category; (2) there is correlation of Group Investigation model with creative thinking ability; (3) there is correlation of Group Investigation model with problem solving ability; (4) there is a correlation of Group Investigation model with creative thinking ability and problem-solving ability; (5) there is difference of average ability of creative thinking and problem solving ability between experiment class student and control class student, with mean value of experiment class is 76,60 whereas mean value of control class is 68,57.
