The number pattern is one of mathematics topics taught for junior high school students that relate between arithmetic and algebra domain. This topic bridges arithmetical and algebraic thinking. Therefore, the learning for this topic should be designed meaningfully. This research aims to design a learning sequence on the number patterns using principles of Realistic Mathematics Education (RME). To do this, we used design research method, particularly the preliminary design phase, with the following three steps. First, literature study was conducted to collect student difficulties in the learning of number patterns, relevant studies, and the theory of RME. Second, we observed Indonesian mathematics textbooks addressing the number patterns to see a learning sequence for this topic. Finally, we designed a learning sequence for the number patterns using the RME principles, particularly the reality principle, level principle, and intertwinement principle. The result of this research includes the learning sequence for the number patterns according to the RME principles, which consists of three activities: relationship between patterns and numbers; exploration of numbers; and generalization of number patterns. We conclude that the three principles of RME are fruitful for designing a meaningful learning sequence for the topic of number patterns.

This study aims to determine the profile of students' thinking in solving mathematical problems and to find out the results of the application of Brunerd's theory in solving the problem of building a Limas room in junior high school students.Retrieval Techniques The subjects in this study were seen from the results of tests with high, medium, low categories. High categories were seen from the test results if the answers to the tests were all correct, the categories were seen from the test results if the answers to the tests still had errors, while the categories were low seen from the test results if the answer to the test is still wrong. This technique is used because researchers have a specific purpose for several considerations, namely to find out whether the application of bruner theory can be applied in mathematics subjects, considering that mathematics is considered a difficult subject for students. The subjects of this study were 6 students. Data collection techniques in this study used test, interview and documentation methods while the data validity techniques in this study used triangulation techniques which included 3 elements, namely sources, methods, theories. In this study researchers used data analysis techniques with 3 components, namely: data reduction, data presentation, conclusion drawing. The results showed that subjects with a high category tended to have high-thinking profiles, they had no difficulty in doing tests and interviews. The subjects with the medium category were more likely to have thinking profiles, while they had a little difficulty in doing tests and interviews, while the subjects with the lower category were more likely to have low-thinking profiles, they had difficulty doing tests and interviews. This is what causes a difference between them. Based on the discussion, it can be concluded that junior high school students in their profile think in solving problems in the building of a limiter junior high school students are able to describe the building of Limas space means that SMP students are able to understand pyramid material shown to the sensitivity of students in learning to build Limas space so that junior high school students in their imagination are able to mention 1 example of a pyramid building and all junior high school students are able to mention the types of Limas indicated by the independence of junior high school students who are able to mention various types of building> 1 in terms of bases, and junior high students are able to say> 1 element the building elements of the Limas space means that junior high school students are able to understand the pyramid material shown to the sensitivity of junior high school students to be able to mention the Limas parts properly and correctly.

This research is motivated by the fact shows the mathematicalcommunication ability of the students not yet in accordance with theexpected. One such problem is learning that does not provide flexibility tostudents to exploit the potential of the brain optimally, where in general isgenerally more emphasis on the left brain function. Mathematicalcommunication skills need to be supported by right brain function.Characteristics of learning that offers learning concepts that align the waythe brain works naturally designed is by learning Brain-Based Learning(BBL). The research method used is quasi experiment. Quantitative data isobtained from pretest and posttes data. Research found that There areachievements and improvements in students' mathematical communicationskills whose learning uses the Brain-Based Learning approach comparedwith students who received conventional learning in terms of students' earlymath skills, and self-confidence and there is an association between theability of mathematical communication and self-confidence.

Abstract — Algebraic reasoning is a process of logical thinking to search and recognize patterns of a particular situation and then make conclusions in the form of generalizations of mathematical ideas related to the situation. This qualitative research aims to describe the algebraic reasoning of junior high school students in solving numerical pattern problems. The subjects in this study were two eighth grade students with the criteria of being able to solve algebraic reasoning test questions and having different variations of answers. Both subjects have the characteristics of the first subject solving the problem with one idea to find general rules of number patterns while the second subject finds new ideas to find general rules of number patterns. Data collection techniques in this study are using algebraic reasoning tests and interviews. The collected data is analyzed based on algebraic reasoning indicators including finding patterns, recognizing patterns, and generalizing. The results showed students in looking for patterns beginning with identifying the constituent elements of number patterns then students find the relationship of each element in number patterns. In the stage of recognizing patterns, students realize the relationship between odd terms and even terms in number patterns, then conduct experiments to find general formulas for number patterns to make it easier to find the value of each term. Students use tables and collect data on each term in a number pattern to find a general formula for a number pattern. There are different ways to find a general formula, namely, there are students who use differences between tribes, while other students use the difference between odd and even terms and even terms with even numbers. In the final step of algebraic reasoning, the generalization of students draws conclusions from the processes they did in the previous stage. Keywords: reasoning, algebraic reasoning, number patterns

This study aimed to analyze the effect of problem-based learning on metacognitive abilities in the conjecturing process of junior high school students. To reach this purpose, a mixed-methods design, which is a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods, was used. The quantitative method was used to analyze the metacognitive abilities of the students’ conjecturing process, while the qualitative method was used to explore observation and interview data. The subjects of this study consisted of 60 eighth-grade students. Two learning models were compared, namely the problem-based learning model and the conventional learning model. The metacognitive abilities of students’ conjecturing process were measured by a pattern generalization problem-solving test. After collecting the data and analyzing them through the independent-samples t-test, it was revealed that the PBL had a significant effect on the metacognitive abilities of students’ conjecturing process in solving pattern generalization problems. Finally, based on the results, some conclusions and implications were suggested.
