The article discusses problems related to road transport infrastructure in the Eastern Poland, including the following provinces: Podlasie, the eastern part of Mazovia, Lublin and Podkarpackie, on the example of the S19 ex-pressway running through these provinces, popularly referred to as the “Via Carpathia” route. The arguments are presented that the road infrastructure built on the S19 route is a key factor in the security and economic devel-opment of Eastern Poland, as well as an important element of economic, social and military security of our entire country.

The article presents, in the short description, a link between the economic development of the region and the condition of its road infrastructure. The region selected for comparisons and analysis of this compounds is Eastern Poland. First, the characteristics of the selected region were discussed. Next, the general state of transport development of the country was described, in aspect of road infrastructure. The last part of the article discusses the issues of the region's economic growth in relation to its infrastructure situation, in connection with the condition and development of the road network. The presented material was concluded with a summary, which emphasized the existence of the tested compounds.

National roads are the main arteries in road transport infrastructure. Therefore, all agencies or authorities responsible of road infrastructure, pay attention to road management systems. Albania is experiencing an increase in road infrastructure investments and maintenance of this road network. There have been some attempts to establish national and secondary road management systems. These systems attempt to achieve different objectives, such as the provision of an adequate level of service, the preservation of the road infrastructure, etc. A good Road Asset Management System (RAMS), helps to carry out all the actions of inventory, storage and maintenance of road assets as well as, supports the decision-making process. At present, there are several data collection devices and applications that carry out the job efficiently. The purpose of this paper is to present the analysis of the use and comparison of some equipment and Cell Phone Based Systems (MiniROMDAS, PaveProf-V2 and RoadLab_Pro) used for the road pavement data collection, necessary in the calculation of the International Roughness Index (IRI), along the national road network in Albania. The comparison is made, by analyzing the data and results obtained along a 20 km long road segment in Albania, using the various above-mentioned technologies. Also, an overview of the currently available technologies providing information that could assist managers in establishing an appropriate data collection program is given.

This article considers the transport infrastructure of the city district as one of the most promising areas today. The existing problems of the road transport network are identified. The author offers a draft solution and the necessary costs for its implementation. This project will increase the flow of motor transport, provide comfortable pedestrian and automobile zones, and improve the socio-economic situation of the city district.

Abstract One of the important assumptions and factors of social and economic development of countries and their regions is road infrastructure. This is particularly true in countries where road transport is the largest component of overall transportation, such as in Slovakia and Poland. Road infrastructure as part of the transport infrastructure is here regarded as one of the main pillars for achieving economic growth, to increase competitiveness and prosperity, contributing to the development of the Trans-European transport network and the improvement of transport infrastructure in support of a single European market in order to ensure the free flow of goods, people and overall competitiveness of the EU. This article offers a comparison of road infrastructure in Slovakia and Poland, highlighting regional disparities in road infrastructure in these countries.

This paper presents a model for valuation of the economic-social benefits and costs of investments in road transport infrastructure. The analysis of benefits and costs was based on three research areas: economic, social and environmental. Currently, the valuation of benefits and costs resulting from investments in road infrastructure is increasing in importance from the perspective of local development assigning a special role to road investments. Modernisation of road infrastructure has an indirect influence on the economic development of municipalities in the form of so-called economic-social-environmental outcomes that are of both a direct and indirect nature.

The article considers the problem of heavy cargo transporting as an integral part of functioning of industry in the country. The transportation of such types of cargo is regulated by the legislation related to the national transport infrastructure. There have been considered the ways of transporting heavy sea containers by road transport in the Russian Federation. Definitions of the divisible and indivisible cargo, the maximum mass of the road train have been given, the indicators of the maximum permissible mass of the vehicle and the axle load on the roads of Russia, approved by legislative acts of the Russian Federation, have been presented. The issues of the correct choice of freight vehicles and compliance with the rules for transportation of heavy cargo, in particular compliance with the permissible total weight and axle loads, have been considered. There has been proposed the method for calculating axle loads and the solution to the problem of redistributing axle loads by moving the seat of the towing vehicle, transporting a heavy sea container by train being used as the example. The obtained values make it possible to estimate the possibility of carrying heavy cargo without violating standards approved by the legislation of Russia

Background: There has been considerable decline in the investment on road transport infrastructure in recent times, as a result of the dwindling economic investment owing to lowering gross domestic product (GDP) since 2009.Objective: The objective of this study was to examine the relationship between road transport investment (ROTI) and economic development (ED) in South Africa. This article adopts the Harrod–Domar (HD) model of economic growth and development theory, endogenous growth theory and Solow–Swan neoclassical growth model.Method: Data were derived from the South African Reserve Bank, Quantec database and Statistics South Africa (StatsSA) between 1990 and 2014. It used time series, econometric models cointegration and vector error correction model (VECM) to analyse.Result: The results of the estimation demonstrate that the explanatory variables account for approximately 86.7% variation in ED in South Africa. Therefore, there exists a positive relationship between ROTI and ED.Conclusion: This study established a long-run relationship between phenomena and demonstrates the role of road transport investment on economic development in South Africa.
