Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) is an endotoxin from the outer membrane of Gram-negative bacteria, which has an important role in the occurrence of sepsis. Exposure to LPS will stimulate increase of nitric oxide (NO). Nitric oxide is a bioregulator of apoptosis and has some sepsis prognostic role of apoptosis regulators within the gastrointestinal cells. The objective of the study is to know if endotoxemia induces an increase in NO levels and histopathology scores as well as the existing relationship between them. This study is an observational intervention. The subjects were 48 male mice Balb/C, divided into 2 groups. The samples consisted of 24 tail as control group (group A) and 24 as treatment group (group B). The A group as well as the B group is divided into 4 subgroups according to the time of termination. The levels of NO were examined by Griess method. Histopathology score was examined by HE and read as a score of 0–5. There was a statistically significant difference between the mean NO in the treatment group with the control group at the termination of the group of 12h (p=0.009), 24h (p=0.015), 36h (p=0.014), 48h (p=0.002) and the whole group (p=0.0001), as well as between the mean histopathology score at the termination time of 12 h (p=0.0001), 24h (p=0.0001), 36h (p=0.0001), 48h (p=0465) and the whole group (p=0.0001). Increase in NO and histopathology scores in all groups of mice (r=0.527) showed a statistically significant correlation. NO levels and histopathology scores are increased during endotoxemia and thus have a significant correlation.

This paper reports the findings of the implementation of full dictation and partial dictation in improving the awareness of using grammar knowledge in reconstructing listening texts among the EFL students at STBA (School of Foreign Languages) LIA Yogyakarta. Three groups participated in the study, i.e. two experimental groups (Group A and B) and a control group (Group C). A pre-test on listening to lectures was administered to the three groups. Over 9 sessions, Group C did the listening exercises in their textbook using dicto-comp technique, while in addition to the listening exercises which applied dicto-comp, the students in Group A was given full dictation exercises and Group B received partial dictation exercises. A post-test was given to the three groups after the ninth session. In addition to the post-test, a 5-point Likert-scale questionnaire assessing the students responses to the dictation exercises was given to the experimental groups. Results of paired-samples tests indicated that there was a significant difference between each groups pre- and post-test. The mean gain score of Group B was higher than Group A showing that Group B had better improvement in the post-test. Furthermore, Group B had better grammar points in their post-test compared to Group A. Group C also increased their scores but they still got their teachers assistance to point out their grammatical mistakes in their notes. This suggests that the dictations given to the experimental groups improved the students awareness in applying their grammar knowledge to reproduce a listening text they heard.

The aim of our study to determine the role of tolvaptan in prevention of hyponatremia in transurethral resection of prostate surgery. This is randomized double-blind study conducted in 60 ASA grade status 1 and 2 patients age group between 45-80 yrs undergoing TURP under spinal anaesthesia in urology operation theatre in Mahatma Gandhi hospital Jaipur after receiving permission from hospital ethical committee. A detailed history, complete physical examination and routine investigation were done for all patients followed by informed written consent was obtained. Patients are randomly divided into 2 groups. In group A -30 patients who received orally tab tolvaptan 15 mg and group B-30 patients who received orally tab multivitamin 2 hrs before surgery after doing electrolytes of the patients in the morning. In both groups age (in yrs), wt (in kg), ASA grade, volume of irrigating fluid (in litres), volume of prostate resected (in gm) and duration of surgery (in minutes) all demographic and surgical details data were compared. Electrolytes were compared in both groups pre and post-operatively and statistical analysis was done.There was significant difference in post-operative sodium level between the two groups (A and B). The mean level of sodium significantly reduced post-operatively in group –B (control grp). The mean level of sodium significantly increased post-operatively in group –A (tolvaptan grp). We conclude single dose of tolvaptan -15 mg found to effective in prevention of hyponatremia in patients undergoing TURP.

This experiment was conducted to determine the effect of papaya leaf (Carica papaya) and kalo jeera (Nigella sativa) seeds powdered supplementation in drinking water as a growth promoter in broiler chickens. A total of 20 Cobb-500 broiler chicks (day-old) were purchased from local hatchery (Nourish Poultry and Hatchery Ltd.) and after seven days of acclimatization chicks were randomly divided into two groups, A (n=10) and B (n=10). The group A was kept as a control and not treated. The group B was supplemented with papaya leaf and kalo jeera powder with feed and water. Weekly observations were recorded for live body weight gain up to 5th weeks and hematological tests were performed at 35th day’s age of broiler to search for hematological changes between control (A) and treatment (B) groups. The initial body weight of groups A and B on 1st were 41.00±0.56 gm and 41.50±0.35 gm, respectively and after 35th day of experiment final body weight were 1470±57.35 gm and 1720±58.56 gm, respectively and economics of production were analyzed and found that net profit per broiler was Tk. 8.91 and Tk. 20.69, respectively. The treatment group B was recorded statistically significant (at 1% level) increased (17.00%) for live body weight than that of control group A. The hematological parameters total erythrocyte count (TEC), erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and hemoglobin (Hb) estimation value of treatment group shows significant difference, while hemoglobin estimation does not show significant difference from control group. The results suggest that better growth performance could be achieved in broilers supplemented with papaya leaf and kalo jeera seeds.

Abstract Mice, unlike rats and humans, have a self recovery mechanism of spinal cord injury. Whether the hematopoietic system is involved in this mechanism is under investigation. In this study we tested whether bone marrow cells transplanted or mobilized by a growth factor in mice with spinal cord injury, can accelerate the recovery. C57bl/6 female mice 10 to 12 weeks of age underwent spinal cord incision in an open operation. The injury was performed as a complete transection including the dura mater and the whole circumference of the cord at the T10-T11 intervertebral space with a micro scalpel (No 11). Group A mice received 200μg/kg/day G-CSF subcutaneously for 7 days, starting 24 hours after operation. Group B mice received 106 light density bone marrow cells from C576bl/6 donor mice intravenously 24 hours after operation. Control group mice received no treatment. Histological evaluation was performed at 48 hours, 1 week, 3 weeks and 5 weeks postoperatively. Paraffin embedded longitudinal samples of spinal cord were cut as serial sections. Spinal cord damage was estimated by measuring the maximum diameter of the area of axonal damage and disruption of astrocytic network using immunostaining for neurofilaments and GFAP. Antibodies against CD68 were applied to identify macrophage aggregations. All measurements were performed by morphometric photo analysis. The volume of fibroblastic infiltration was estimated using a grading system (0–7), based on Van Gieson stain for connective tissue. Functional deficits and recovery over time were evaluated by testing hind limb reflex and coordinated motor function (Kuhn and Wrathal functional tests, modified by Seki et al, 2002). All tests have been videotaped. Outcome scores at 48 hours, 1 week, 3 weeks and 5 weeks postoperatively for the control group, group A and group B mice were analyzed with the Mann-Whitney U test. 48 hours post operatively all mice in all groups were paralyzed in both hind limbs. Gradual improvement was observed in all groups. At week 3 there was a significant difference between the mean scores of functional tests for both treated groups (A and B) compared with the mean scores of the control group. Statistically significant difference (p<0,05) was observed in 5 out of 7 tests for group A and in 3 out of 7 tests for group B. Same difference between Group A mice and control group mice was observed by 5 weeks, while group B had no statistically significant difference. No animal in any of the groups had a complete recovery 5 weeks postoperatively. Spinal cord in control group mice showed a gradually increase of fibroblastic infiltration until 5 week which entirely separated the two ends of the cord. In group A and group B mice a significant decrease of fibroblastic infiltration was observed at week 5 compared with week 3. Macrophage aggregations were evident at weeks 1 and 5 but not at week 3 in all groups. In conclusion our results indicate that light density bone marrow transplanted cells or G-CSF treatment can accelerate spinal cord injured mice recovery. It is possible that this is associated with a decrease in fibroblastic infiltration of spinal cord. Macrophage aggregation may also play an important role in the mechanism of recovery in mice, while in rats a different reaction including cavitation and delayed demyelination prohibits neurological recovery.

Objectives: To assess the role of lingual flap in encountering lingual nerve injury during the surgical elimination of lower wisdom tooth. Study Design: Cross Sectional Case Control study. Setting: Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Institute of Dentistry, Liaquat University of Medical & Health Sciences Jamshoro / Hyderabad. Period: January 2016 to September 2016. Material & Methods: Subjects were categorized into two categories: Group-A (lingual flap) & group-B (control group) each having 52 patients by Lottery method. In group A an envelope mucoperiosteal flap followed by lingual flap elevation carried out and in group B only envelope flap was carried out. All patients were reviewed on the first postoperative day and again 1 and 3rd week after surgery. At each postoperative visit, patient was examined for sensory nerve impairment of the lingual nerve by same observer. Results: Total 104 cases were studied, all the cases categorized among two groups 52 in each group. In group-A 34 were males and 18 were females, while in group-B 44 were male and 8 were females. There was no significant difference among both groups according to the pre-operative assessment. According to objective findings, lingual nerve paresthesia was found among 2 cases of group A on 1st visit, while no any case was found with nerve injury in group B. Out of 2 cases, one case was improved and only one had presented with complain at 2nd visit and 3rd visit, no significant difference among both groups, p-values were quite insignificant. Conclusion: It was concluded that lingual nerve injury (LNI) occurred among few cases of lingual flap group which was insignificantly higher as compare to control group, but the nature of injury was temporary.

Background: Transurethral resection of prostate (TURP) is the predominant surgical procedure for benign prostatic hypertension (BPH) but is not devoid of complications like capsular perforation, drop in Hb%, drop in Na+, residual adenoma; hence endeavors are evolving to combat such complications. A newer technique transurethral enucleation and resection of prostate (TUERP) has been devised to solve these problems. This study was designed to compare the safety and the efficacy of newer technique, TUERP with widely practiced TURP Methods: This randomized controlled trial was done at BSMMU, after getting ethical approval from the ethical review committee of the institute, from January to October, 2009. A total of 60 BPH patients were purposively enrolled in this study, after obtaining informed written consent and they were randomized as control, Group A (30 patients, underwent TURP) and experimental group, Group B (30 patients, underwent TEURP).Results: The mean preoperative Hb% level of Group A was 15.1 gm% (SD ± 0.5) and perioperative Hb% level was 13.04 gm% (SD ± 6.06). There was significant difference (P <0.05). The mean preoperative Hb% of Group B was 15.2 gm% (SD ± 0.5) and perioperative Hb% was 15.2 gm% (SD ± 0.48). There was no difference (P >0.05). The mean preoperative Na + of Group A was 140 mmol/l (SD ± 4.1) and perioperative Na+ was 126 mmol/l (SD ± 6.8). There was significant difference (P<0.01). The mean preoperative Na+ of Group B was 136 mmol/l (SD ± 4) and perioperative Na+ was 136 mmol/l (SD ± 2.70). There was no difference (P >0.05).Conclusion: TUERP eliminates drop in Hb% and Na+which are usual consequences following TURP. Thus TUERP can be advocated in the treatment of BPH as it also allows completeresection down to surgical capsule.Birdem Med J 2017; 7(3): 216-220

Background: Coronary angiography is the most important and reliable test todiagnose coronary artery disease. Bed rest of few hours is advised after angiography to reducevascular complications but there is difference of opinion regarding duration of bed rest afterangiography. Objectives: To compare the frequency of vascular complications after 6 hoursof bed rest versus 3 hours of bed rest in patients undergoing femoral coronary angiography.Study Design: Experimental study. Place and Duration of Study: Angiography Department,Faisalabad Institute of Cardiology, Faisalabad from August, 2017 to January, 2018. Methods:A total of 100 patients were divided in two equal groups, group A (interventional group (n=50),3 hours rest) and group B (routine care (n=50), 6 hours rest). A 6 French sheath was insertedunder local anesthesia by seldinger technique in femoral artery. Coronary angiography wasdone using 6 F angiography catheters. At the end of procedure sheaths were immediatelyremoved and manual pressure was applied for 15 minutes. Puncture site was observed forhematoma formation or bleeding every 30 minutes for 2 hours in angiography ward, afterwardsthese observations were made every hour till time of discharge. Patients were called for checkupin outpatient department next day and after 1 week. Results: Out of 50 patients in group A therewere 35 (70%) male and 15 (30%) female and in group B out of 50 patients there were 40 (80%)male and 10 (20%) female patients. In group A mean age was (51.02 ±9.57) years while in groupB mean age was (51.50±10.19) years. There was no significant difference in patients betweenthe two groups regarding their age, gender, body mass index (BMI), coagulation profile and useof antiplatelets. There was no incidence of pre ambulation bleeding, small or large hematoma inboth groups. Post ambulation bleeding occurred in 1(2%) patient in experimental group (GroupA) and in 1 (2%) patient in the control group (Group B). Small hematoma occurred in 2 (4%)patients in experimental group (Group A) and in 1(2%) patient of control group (Group B).There was no incidence of post ambulation large hematoma in both groups. Conclusion: Shortbed rest of 3 hours after femoral angiography does not increase the frequency of puncture sitecomplications.

Hematological indication is an important finding for pathophysiology analysis of biological science. This study was designed with the aim to investigate the effects of residual antibiotics on hematological parameters of broiler following discriminate and indiscriminate use. 18 broiler DOC (Cobb-500) were reared up to 31 days. On day 16, they were randomly divided into 3 groups, namely Group–A (Control group), Group-B (Discriminate group) and Group-C (Indiscriminate group). Each group contains 6 birds. The discriminate and indiscriminate group was treated with antibiotic, enrofloxacin. In Group-B withdrawal period was followed and treatment was stopped before 7 days of sacrifice. On the other hand, withdrawal period was not maintained in indiscriminate group and the antibiotic treatment was continued until the day of sacrifice. The Total erythrocyte count (million/mm3) of control, discriminate, and indiscriminate groups were 3.15±0.047, 2.66±0.091, and 2.90±0.11 respectively. The Hb (gm%) of control, discriminate, and indiscriminate groups were 8.17±0.07, 7.37±0.09, and 7.28±0.07 respectively. The Packed Cell Volume (%) of control, discriminate, and indiscriminate group were 24.17±0.48, 23.17±0.48, and 22.33±0.67 respectively. There was no significant difference on blood parameter found among the groups. Therefore, discriminate and indiscriminate use of enrofloxacin has no bad effect on hematological parameters of broiler.

Testosterone is the male sex hormone responsible for growth of secondary sexual characters and accessory sex organs. Despite the effectiveness as a male sex i101711011C, testosterone causes benign preemie hyperplasia (BPH) resulting in urinary dysfinction. On the other hand. Bromide is a pure anthestosterone, which blockw the effects of dihydnoestosterone (DHT)at the testosterone receptor and presents BM. The objective of the study was to observe the effects of flutamide on testosterone induced promatic hypetplasia in Long Evans rats. This experimental study was carried or I e Department of Anatomy. Sir Salimullah Medical College. Dhaka from January to December 2006. Forty five matured male Long Evans rats of age 8-10 weeks and weighing 200-300 gnu were used in this study. They were divided into three equal groups. Group A was vehicle (olive oil) control group. Group B was testosterone treated group and Group C was testosterone and flu:amide treated group. Comparative study in different groups were done microscopically. There was significant reduction (p<0.001) qproslatic hypetplasia. The mean diameter of acini of prostate in flutamide treated rats was loner than the testosterone treated rats. It can be concluded from this study that flatamide is an effective drug against testosterone induced prostatic hyperplasia.

Abstract Purpose Previous studies have showed that age,sex and comorbidities might be associated with severity of patients infected with COVID-19 ,which endangers public health worldwide rapidly.The characteristics and length of negative conversion of Non-severe COVID-19 patients with or without hypertension is limited.This study aims to assess whether non-severe COVID-19 patients with hypertension undergone more longer period of negative conversion .Methods This single-center, retrospective study was performed in Xiantao first People’s Hospital Affiliated to Yangtze University(xiantao, hubei,China) by using medical records.Non-severe COVID-19 patients with a history of hypertension From January 23 to February15 were enrolled as group A. A Control group(group B) was matched (1:1) according to age,sex and the admission date.Data on clinical records, laboratory results, and radiological tests was collected. we conducted all analyses with SPSS software(22.0).Results We enrolled 24 and 24 Non-severe COVID-19 patients with and without hypertension, respectively. The most common symptoms were fever and cough in both groups.The frequency of fatigue is more in patients with hypertension.The levels of AST,ALT and CRP were higher in group A.The mean periods of negative conversion for COVID-19 virus were 17 days(SD:5.5) and 15 days(SD:3.6)for patients with and without hypertension(P=0.021).The mean hospitalization periods were 16.8 days (SD:5.6) and 13.7 days (SD:3.8) , respectively (p=0.083) .Conclusion Non-severe COVID-19 patients with hypertension undergone a longer negative conversion for COVID-19 virus and spent more time on clearing COVID-19 virus.
