Embree's “Personal Beliefs Scale Redux: A Model for Hypothesis Testing” (1996) is reviewed as a highly creative measurement approach to the study of mind-body beliefs. However, as a “model for hypothesis testing,” it is viewed as seriously flawed in its experimental and statistical design.

In this study, we applied a central composite design to estimate independent variables and establish optimal conditions of filtration rate and feces production that enhance filtration of suspended organic matter by the freshwater mussels Sinanodonta woodiana. The results indicated that statistical design methodology offers an efficient and feasible approach for high filtration and low feces production condition optimization. The proposed model equation takes into account the quantitative effect of variables and also the influence of interactions among variables on mussel filtration rate. Under the optimal experimental conditions (mussel size, 13.0 ± 0.2 cm; water current, 17.5 L/h), the experimental filtration rate of 4.47 ± 1.82 L/mussel/h showed a degree of correspondence with the predicted value of 8.4 L/mussel/h, which verified the practicability of this optimum strategy.

The purpose of the research is to analyze the influences of social servicescape and physical servicescape on hotel image and revisiting intention in five star hotels. The design of this study is a hypothesis testing. The respondents were selected using purposive sampling method in which the questionnaires are used to collect data from 200 respondents who have visited some five star hotels in DKI Jakarta at least 1 time in a year. The proposed model was tested by using Structural Equation Model (SEM). The results of this research showed that there is a significant and positive influence of social servicescape and physical servicescape on hotel image; a significant and positive influence of hotel image, social servicescape and physical servicescape on revisiting intention. This study only used some five star hotels in DKI Jakarta and 200 respondents that limit the generalizability of the results. Future researchers should accomodate larger number of respondents and used some other Five Star Hotels in other cities. The findings of this research can help hotel managers to implement better strategies in order to increase the level of customers’ revisiting intention.

Abstract In many cases, a $\overline X $ control chart based on a performance variable is used in industrial fields. Typically, the control chart monitors the measurements of a performance variable itself. However, if the performance variable is too costly or impossible to measure, and a less expensive surrogate variable is available, the process may be more efficiently controlled using surrogate variables. In this paper, we present a model for the economic statistical design of a VSI (Variable Sampling Interval) $\overline X $ control chart using a surrogate variable that is linearly correlated with the performance variable. We derive the total average profit model from an economic viewpoint and apply the model to a Very High Temperature Reactor (VHTR) nuclear fuel measurement system and derive the optimal result using genetic algorithms. Compared with the control chart based on a performance variable, the proposed model gives a larger expected net income per unit of time in the long-run if the correlation between the performance variable and the surrogate variable is relatively high. The proposed model was confined to the sample mean control chart under the assumption that a single assignable cause occurs according to the Poisson process. However, the model may also be extended to other types of control charts using a single or multiple assignable cause assumptions such as VSS (Variable Sample Size) $\overline X $ control chart, EWMA, CUSUM charts and so on.

Data obtained from the Personal Beliefs Scale of Embree and Embree were used to develop an analysis of variance model for mind-body belief which emphasized a distinction between “conventional” and “unconventional” mind-body beliefs. By means of this model a critically important distinction between high scoring second-order psychosomaticism subjects was achieved. It was proposed that subjects low in unconventional/high conventional tend to employ classical logic when rating mind-body belief items and that subjects high in unconventional/high conventional mind-body belief characteristically engage in fuzzy logic. Possible applications of the model in research were discussed.

The aims of this research is to measure the effect of gamification, variety of beverage products and prices on buying interest of Fore Coffee consumers. The data collection technique was in the form of a questionnaire using a google form link that was distributed in several whatsapp groups. The results of the questionnaire were processed using the Structural Equation Modeling Analysis Technique with the SmartPLS application. The results show that the Gamifications contained in the application have an influence on consumer buying interest, seen from the results of testing the proposed model hypothesis. The T-value for the gamification variable is 2,934, which is greater than 1.96. The variety of beverage products found in the coffee application has an influence on consumer buying interest, seen from the results of hypothesis testing with a Tstatistic value of 3.646 which is greater than 1.96. Hypothesis testing shows that the price is not significant to the buying interest of front coffee consumers with a value of 1.94 which is smaller than 1.96. For further research, it can be developed with other gamification benefits embedded in online shopping applications, so that it can add to the repertoire of knowledge in the world of digital marketing.

A balanced one-way ANOVA model is proposed to quantify the systematic errors and the random errors in the total part variation at a stage. Moreover, a method of hypothesis testing is presented to determine whether the variable systematic errors exist obviously at a stage based on the proposed model. A journal grinding example is taken to illustrate the proposed methodology.

Decentralization has been a continual focus of attention of both scholars and practitioners for more than half a century. Even though there is a general agreement on what decentralization is, there is no consensus about how it should be measured. This article builds on the existing body of literature that specifies three major dimensions of decentralization: political, administrative, and economic. The article offers a measurement model that unifies these dimensions in a meaningful manner that allows for comparison across countries. The proposed model is then empirically tested using confirmatory factor analysis of a data set of 37 countries over the period 2000-2009. This factor analysis reveals that there are, in fact, only two dimensions of the decentralization process. The newly developed modelʼs index illustrates that the conceptually challenging processes of decentralization can be accurately measured and analyzed. The index can be used for hypothesis testing of the causality role of decentralization.

An improved syntheticX-control chart based on hybrid adaptive scheme and run rule scheme is introduced to enhance the statistical performance of traditional syntheticX-control chart on service and management operation. The proposed scientific hybrid adaptive schemes consider both variable sampling interval and variable sample size scheme. The properties of the proposed chart are obtained using Markov chain approach. An extensive set of numerical results is presented to test the effectiveness of the proposed model in detecting small and moderate shifts in the process mean. The results show that the proposed chart is quicker than the standard syntheticX-chart and CUSUM chart in detecting small and moderate shifts in the process of service and management operation.

It has been shown for some time that it is possible to obtain images of small unstained proteins, with a resolution of approximately 5Å using dark field electron microscopy (1,2). Applying this technique, we have observed a uniformity in size and shape of the 2-dimensional images of pure specimens of fish protamines (salmon, herring (clupeine, Y-l) and rainbow trout (Salmo irideus)). On the basis of these images, a model for the 3-dimensional structure of the fish protamines has been proposed (2).The known amino acid sequences of fish protamines show stretches of positively charged arginines, separated by regions of neutral amino acids (3). The proposed model for protamine structure (2) consists of an irregular, right-handed helix with the segments of adjacent arginines forming the loops of the coil.
