Abstract ORATOR v2 is a new 1.5M word corpus of Czech monologues, delivered to a live audience in semi-formal to formal settings. It was designed to chart the space of naturally occurring monologues which can be obtained for corpus processing. As such, it aims for diversity but does not attempt any balancing of subcategories, recognizing that some types of data are inherently easier to obtain in high volume than others. The transcription guidelines and annotation tools employed are the same as other recent spoken corpora published by the CNC, which facilitates interesting comparisons between various types of spoken Czech. The present paper sketches out three case studies, comparing ORATOR to the informal conversations of ORTOFON v2 in terms of the frequencies of demonstratives and hesitations, as well as lexical richness.

A problem common to mines operating in the tropics is the disposal of water, which may be alkaline, acidic, or contain toxic elements such as arsenic or cadmium. The availability of year-round water supply at many mine sites in Northern Australia, particularly from pit dewatering, together with the monsoonal climate, provide appropriate conditions for the formation of natural wetlands or establishment of artificial wetlands. Wetland species (particularly Typha spp.) flourish in the presence of flowing or shallow water from dewatering, and data collected from natural and experimental wetlands show reduction of metal concentrations by wetland filtration of mine waste water. The following case studies are considered:Constructed wetlands, used to remove uranium from waste rock runoff before release to an adjacent creek provide a means of “polishing” runoff water prior to discharge to the creek.Creek-Billabong systems with existing wetlands adjacent to mine sites adventitiously “filter” waters discharged from mine sites. Trace elements in dewatering water from a gold mine discharged into an oxbow show reduction of elemental concentrations downstream, compared to discharge water.Naturally generated wetlands at several Northern Territory mines have developed along channels for discharge of pit water, with ingress of Typha domingensis. Such wetlands, associated with dewatering, have been examined at four mines, some with acid mine drainage. Water quality measured after wetland treatments shows reductions in concentrations of various heavy metals and sulfate. Volunteer Typha domingensis grows and spreads in shallow flowing channels, providing an inherent “filtration” of the water.Natural swamplands are incorporated in the waste rock runoff management design of a new gold mine, to reduce potentially high arsenic levels in the waste water. Constructed and naturally occurring wetlands may be used in the treatment of most mine waste waters to achieve levels of constituents acceptable for discharge to the surrounding environment.

For twenty five years the discursive psychological perspective has been at the vanguard of innovative research in social psychology, producing highdetail systematic analyses of dynamic, constructive language use in a wide range of practical settings. To date, it has found applications in the study of medical communication, racism, political discourse, emotion and accounts of success and failure in sport, to highlight but a few. Its lack of headway in the specific study of coaching is perhaps, therefore, somewhat surprising given the transparently task-focused character of many naturally-occurring verbal activities in the domain. This article draws on salient literature and two brief case studies in illustrating some of the ways that the perspective can inform an approach to coaching interaction that does not draw on ontologically-problematic cognitivist assumptions regarding the relationship between thought and action. A foundational argument is then made for greater engagement with discursive psychology within the broader realm of coaching science.

AbstractMinimizing risk is an important factor in new product planning because high volume breakthrough products require tens of millions of dollars to develop and bring to market. Sometimes risk can be minimized by following the IC model: build new devices on an existing process – just change the mask set. This approach obviously has limits. Adoption of new materials and processes greatly expands the horizon for “disruptive” products. This paper uses a case study approach to examine how changes in masks, materials and unit processes were used, and will continue to be used, to produce MEMS products for high volume applications.

Seeds present a naturally occurring package of germplasm with ideal attributes for collection, distribution and, in the case of orthodox seed, long term storage. From a phytosanitary perspective seeds are often considered a relatively low-risk option for movement of germplasm across borders. Most published data are concerned with diseases of commercial crops and little is known about the risks associated with wild collected, non-commercial seeds. However, there is demonstrable risk associated with the movement of any plant germplasm which can pose a risk to both crops and the wider environment. Presented here are a discussion on seed standards and the difference between seed borne and seed transmitted pathogens, with case studies presented to highlight the risks associated with informal seed systems and wild collected seeds in particular. Additionally, suggestions on how to address phytosanitary issues are presented including awareness raising measures aimed at improving biosecurity procedures during collection and before long-term storage of seed accessions.

During a crisis, the messaging platform WhatsApp allows crisis-related information to be disseminated quickly. Although case studies have documented how WhatsApp has shaped crisis outcomes in both beneficial and harmful ways, little is known about: (i) how crisis-related content is spread; (ii) characteristics of users based on usage patterns; or (iii) how usage patterns link to well-being. During the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) crisis, this study used the experience sampling method to track the daily WhatsApp usage of 151 adults throughout one week (capturing a total of 924 days of crisis-related communication). Each day, participants reported the extent to which they had received, forwarded, or discussed COVID-19- related content. During the week-long monitoring, most participants (94.7%) reported at least one COVID-19 related use of WhatsApp. Those who engaged with more COVID-19 content in personal chats were more likely to report having COVID-19 thoughts throughout the day. We further observed that around 1 in 10 individuals (14%) were chronic users who received and shared forwarded COVID-19 messages at a high volume; this group may represent everyday "super spreaders" of crisis-related content. Together, these findings provide an empirical base for policy makers to manage risk communication during large-scale crises.

The Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) has developed few manuals that deal with inspection and rehabilitation of bridges; such as OSIM (Ontario Structural Inspection Manual), SRM (Structure Rehabilitation Manual), OPSS (Ontario Provincial Standards Specifications) and OPSD (Ontario Provincial Standards Drawings). Most of these manuals except OPSD do not provide detailed sketches to clarify the theory; therefore, practicing engineers in rehabilitation industry have difficulties during design and construction of rehabilitation projects. The main objective of this project is to provide a manual called "Bridge Rehabilitation Detailing Manual (BRDM)" for clarifying practicing engineers' problems. This manual presents the results of a wide research and studies on rehabilitation of about 80 bridges in Ontario. Most of these bridges are located at major locations of Ontario with high volume of traffic going over. Out of the 80 bridges, 62 bridges have been considered as case-studies since they were designed and detailed by top ranked and well-known consulting firms in rehabilitation industry. The most common deterioration and relevant rehabilitation methods were categorized in a database to help the development of the BRDM. This has been combined with MTO's manuals to result and act as commentary of MTO Rehabilitation Manual.

Introduction Solitary extramedullary plasmacytoma are rare, solid-mass tumours which appear immunophenotypically similar to multiple myeloma. The diagnosis and management of gastrointestinal plasmacytoma is complex and requires multidisciplinary input. This study presents a narrative review of intra-abdominal extramedullary plasmacytoma, illustrated with two case studies. Methods The PubMed database was searched without date restrictions for reports of intra-abdominal extramedullary plasmacytoma to synthesise a narrative review. Electronic records were reviewed at a high-volume, quaternary soft-tissue sarcoma centre to identify patients with histopathologically confirmed extramedullary plasmacytoma affecting the gastrointestinal tract. Results Gastrointestinal extramedullary plasmacytomas can present with mass effect or organ-specific dysfunction. Techniques for tissue diagnosis of extramedullary plasmacytoma vary dependent on location, with a formal diagnosis often being made from a resected specimen. Management can include surgery, radiotherapy, systemic chemotherapy or a combination. No high-quality evidence base exists to guide treatment. Two case studies of operated gastrointestinal extramedullary plasmacytoma are presented at different phases of disease progression, with a resultant impact on survival. Conclusion Intra-abdominal extramedullary plasmacytoma is a rare and heterogeneous condition that lacks consensus guidelines for diagnosis and management. Collaboration between international specialist centres will create better quality evidence for treatment of this cohort.
