Knowledge, since the late 1990s, has been increasingly seen as a primary business asset, while knowledge management (KM) has been perceived to be the key differentiator between firms in terms of their sustainability, profitability, innovative capacity, and change management. The reason for this interest in knowledge management is the belief that knowledge and its applications are the means by which creativity can be fostered (Nonaka and Nishiguchi, 2000), innovation enabled (Hargadon, 1998), and competencies leveraged so as to improve overall organizational performance. Since knowledge has become the driving force for economic development, attention to the organization and management of information and knowledge has increased tremendously. The knowledge management discourse has also captured the attention of professionals working in the library and information sector. In recent years, a body of literature has emerged that explicitly addresses knowledge management from the perspective of library and information professionals (Broadbent, 1997; Nicholson, 1997; Loughridge, 1999). This literature carries a key assumption that library and information professionals have an important role to play in knowledge management. KM is also assumed to be an instrument in enhancing professional image and role of the information professionals. Yunhua (1999) makes a clear case for library development from the perspective of knowledge management.

Abstract The directions of development of the construction market are not only related to the need to own one’s own home but also to increasing functional and economic requirements and conditions of sustainable development. The perception and understanding of prefabrication in housing construction are undoubtedly starting to change. Sustainable construction criteria may constitute a significant turning point and support for the development of new prefabricated housing construction technologies. Entrepreneurs are slowly perceiving an opportunity for the development of prefabrication in the construction market. The implementation and popularisation of ready-made homes will undoubtedly constitute a favourable change in the Polish construction market; however, this will require a modification of habits. This article presents an historical analysis of the development of the prefabricated housing construction market as well as an attempt to answer questions concerning the future of prefabrication in housing construction in Poland based on the conducted studies.

Humans and the actions they take to improve their quality of life lead to the disturbance of the processes occurring in the natural environment. These processes should not be stopped while the solution should be found to help humans coexist with nature. The ecological and social problems and the resulting threats have become an inspiration for the development of the concept of sustainable development. Sustainable development has led to the necessity to implement changes towards balancing all areas of human activity, including the construction sector. Factors affecting sustainable development are present in many phases of building creation and use. The most important of them have been characterized and discussed. The article describes the main requirements for sustainable development, contained in laws and regulations, at every stage of building construction. Furthermore, the study analysed the share of individual sectors of the economy in consumption of energy resources. The focus was on the consumption of raw materials in the sector of industry and construction and the sector of households. Universities, in their role of training and transforming people, play a key role in generating sustainable citizens to be agents of change by solving social and environmental complexities and safeguarding the future of generations. This chapter sets out the new challenges and trends of incorporating education for sustainable development into the business area, particularly in the subjects of Accounting and Finance. The incorporation of sustainability in the curricular map of universities can be implemented through curricular and university orientation. Both strategies are indispensable to generate a successful adoption in the curricula. Different conceptual frameworks on sustainability teaching are developed and pedagogical strategies are proposed to implement better learning practices.
