AbstractA convenient and sensitive method for determination of sulfanilamide (SNA) was described based on the Mn(II)-catalyzed oscillating chemical reaction. Under optimum conditions, a linear relationship existed between the changes of oscillating period or amplitude and the negative of logarithm of SNA concentration in the range of 4.27 × 10−8 mol ·L−1 ∼ 7.41 × 10−6 mol ·L−1 (RSD, 0.85%) and 9.33 × 10−8 mol ·L−1 ∼ 3.02 × 10−6 mol ·L−1 (RSD, 1.08%), respectively. The lower limit of detection was found to be 2.69 × 10−8 mol ·L−1 and 6.03 × 10−8 mol ·L−1, respectively.

AbstractA sensitive and convenient method for the determination of trace europium ions using an oscillating chemical reaction involving Ce(IV) - KBrO3 - acetone - oxalic acid - H2SO4 was proposed. The results indicated that the changes in oscillating period (T) was linearly proportional to the negative logarithmic concentration of Eu3+ (-log C) in the range of 1.41 × 10−8 ˜ 1.41 × 10−4 mol L−1 (r = 0.9982) with a detection limit of 1.04 × 10−9 mol L−1. The recoveries were limited to the range of 99.5% to 100.8%. Under the same conditions, other rare earth ions did not interfere with the determination of Eu3+. In addition, a perturbation mechanism was also discussed briefly.

A simple and accurate spectrophotometric method for the determination of Trifluoperazine HCl in pure and dosage forms was developed. The method is based on the reaction between Trifluoperazine HCl and p-chloroaniline in the presence of cerium ion as oxidizing agent which lead to the formation of violate color product that absorbed at a maximum wavelength 570nm while the blank solution was pink. Under the optimum conditions a linear relationship between the intensity and concentration of TRF in the range 4-50μg/ml was obtained . The molar absorptivity 3.74×103 L.mol-1.cm-1 , Limit of detection (2.21μg/ml), while limit of quantification was 7.39μg/ml. The proposed analytical method was compared with standard method using t-test and F-test , the obtained results shows there is no significant differences between proposed method and standard method. Based on that the proposed method can be used as an alternative method for the determination of TRF in pure and dosage forms.

A fast method for the separation and determination of the food additive propyl gallate has been established by using capillary electrophoresis. The effects of several factors such as the applied potential and detection running buffer were investigated in order to obtain the optimum conditions, and the assay results were satisfactory. The limit of detection for the analyte was 10-6 mol/L. This approach has remarkable advantages with respect to other methodologies involving separations and electrochemical detection including minimal sample consumption, higher analysis speed and lower cost. In order to demonstrate the capabilitiy of the method, the determination of additive in a commercial food sample is also presented.

Abstract A sensitive and selective high-performance liquid chromatographic method has been developed for the determination of tianeptine (Tia) in tablets. The method is based on derivatization of Tia with 4-chloro-7-nitrobenzofurazan (NBD-Cl). A mobile phase consisting of acetonitrile10 mM orthophosphoric acid (pH 2.5; 77 + 23) was used at a flow rate of 1 mL/min on a C18 column. The Tia-NBD derivative was monitored using a fluorescence detector, with emission set at 520 nm and excitation at 458 nm. Gabapentin was selected as an internal standard. Linear calibration graphs were obtained in the concentration range of 45300 ng/mL. The lower limit of detection (LOD) was 10 ng/mL at a signal-to-noise ratio of 4. The lower limit of quantitation (LOQ) was 45 ng/mL. The relative standard values for intra- and interday precision were <0.46 and <0.57%, respectively. The recovery of the drug samples ranged between 98.89 and 99.85%. No chromatographic interference from the tablet excipients was found. The proposed method was validated in terms of precision, robustness, recovery, LOD, and LOQ. All the validation parameters were within the acceptance range. The proposed method was applied for the determination of Tia in commercially available tablets. The results were compared with those obtained by an ultraviolet spectrophotometric method using t- and F-tests.

Abstract Clearly defined zones of citrinin can be obtained on thin layer chromatographic (TLC) plates and measured by fluorodensitometry. Silica gel plates were prepared as a slurry with aqueous 0.05M Na2EDTA (ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid), spread at 0.5 mm wet thickness, and activated at 105°C for 1 hr. Plates were developed in acetic acid-benzene (5+95). The limit of detection was 10 ng citrinin/zone. Densitometric analysis (365 nm excitation, 505 nm emission) revealed that a linear relationship exists for levels of 10 ng to at least 100 ng/zone wtih a coefficient of variation of ±5%.

A simple, fast, reproducible and sensitive method for the flotation- spectrophotometric determination of Al3+is reported. The apparent molar absorptivity (ε) of the ion associate was determined to be 8.35×104L mol-1cm-1. The calibration curve was linear in the concentration range of 1.0-50 ng mL-1of Al3+with a correlation coefficient of 0.9997. The limit of detection (LOD) was 0.621 ng mL. The relative standard deviation (RSD) at 10 and 30 ng mL-1of aluminium were 1.580 and 2.410% (n=7) respectively. The method was applied for measuring the amount of aluminium in water samples.

Energy-dispersive x-ray spectrometric methods have been developed for the determination of chlorine in asbestos (chrysotile) fibers. Chlorine, which is a minor constituent, is determined by a standard addition method from the ground fiber and by a standardless method in six different fibers. The lower limit of detection for a qualitative analysis and the lower limit of determination for a quantitative analysis of chlorine in the asbestos matrix are 40 ppm and 120 ppm, respectively. The water-soluble and acid-soluble chlorine have also been determined by ion-exchange chromatography and by a colorimetric method. The agreement of the three different methods is very good in all cases.
