Abstract Terra firma-forme dermatosis (TFFD) or Duncan’s dirty dermatosis is a bizarre, acquired, and idiopathic dermatosis. It is characterized by its asymptomatic, yellowish, or brownish dirt-like lesions, resistant to usual washing with soap and water, but disappearing when rubbed with 70% ethyl alcohol or isopropyl alcohol. Swabbing with alcohol is both diagnostic and therapeutic means for this disorder. We present two boys, aged 14 and 11, with asymptomatic brownish, dirt-like lesions on the chest and forearms, respectively. Skin lesions were continuously present for more than a month. Both of the patients had usual hygiene habits. The diagnosis of TFFD was confirmed by rubbing with 70% ethyl alcohol which led to disappearance of the lesions. TFFD often causes much concern in patients and parents of affected children. Since its clinical picture is similar to some other dermatoses, the disease can be misdiagnosed. Therefore, it is important to recognize this dermatosis in dermatological and pediatric practice in order to explain the benign nature of the disease to patients and to avoid unnecessary diagnostic tests.

Spitz nevi (epithelioid and spindle-cell nevi) are a special group of melanocytic neoplasms with a specific clinical, dermatoscopic and histological picture. There are typical and atypical Spitz nevus. The typical Spitz nevus is more common in pediatric practice and has a benign course. Of particular interest are atypical forms that combine the characteristics of a typical Spitz nevus and melanoma. The article presents an analysis of the clinical picture, dermatoscopic, immunohistochemical, histological and genetic characteristics in various forms of Spitz nevus. The existing classification according to the metastasis risk degree is presented. The last recommendations on the tactics of managing patients with this nosology are discussed with examples of original observations.

We present a case of celiac disease (CD) diagnosis in a 75-year-old woman with a long-term history of chronic delusional jealousy and a complex neurological involvement. The case describes a very unusual clinical picture, provides some clinical clues, and highlights the importance of being aware of CD extraintestinal manifestations in order to get a timely diagnosis.

SummaryObjective. The aim of our work is to describe the first two cases of arthralgia associated with the antidepressant drug mirtazapine.Method.Descriptive analysis of two iatrogenic cases. The review of the literature was achieved by the traditional electronic methods. The French database of iatrogenic cases was consulted.Results.A 53-year-old man presented with gonalgia after some weeks of mirtazapine treatment. The intensity of the arthralgia was correlated with the dosage and the adverse effect rapidly disappeared after the antidepressant therapy was stopped. A 38-year-old woman received mirtazapine for 3 months and complained of arthralgia and myalgia. This clinical picture was suspended as the drug was stopped and a positive reintroduction was observed. No other cause was found in these two patients.Discussion.No similar case has been reported in the international literature, but several observations of arthralgia with mianserin are mentioned. As mirtazapine is the 6-aza derivative of the tetracyclic antidepressant mianserin, the similarities of their chemical structures begs the responsibility of mirtazapine for arthralgia.

Rosai-Dorfman disease (RDD), also known as sinus histiocytosis with massive lymphadenopathy, is a rare nonmalignant lymphohistiocytic proliferative disorder. We report a patient with RDD who presented with multiple skin lesions, pulmonary involvement, and CT manifestations mimicking Langerhans cell histiocytosis, which improved after initiation of corticosteroid treatment.

Background: Calciphylaxis is a well-known entity in end-stage kidney disease and after renal transplant. Cases of nonuremic calciphylaxis (NUC) have also been reported, but data on this rare condition are mainly empirical. Objective: We discuss a case of NUC secondary to spontaneous tumour lysis syndrome in a patient who had chemotherapy for non-Hodgkin lymphoma and present a review of the literature to better characterize malignancy-associated NUC. Methods: We identified 12 published cases of malignancy-associated NUC. Results: This systematic review of malignancy-associated NUC did not show a relationship between the type of malignancy, the distribution of skin lesions, or mortality. However, distal more than proximal involvement seems to be more frequently associated with calcium phosphate imbalance. Conclusion: Clinicians must maintain a high index of suspicion for calciphylaxis when evaluating patients with cutaneous lesions developed in the setting of malignancy.

The relation between water content and critical solution temperature of mixtures of gasoline with ethanol and isopropanol and with ethanol and benzene has been determined. Curves are presented which show the critical water contents of a wide range of mixtures at any temperature between + 20° and − 50 °C. Three gasolines were used, two being straight-run and one a cracked gasoline. The mixtures contained 60 to 90% of gasoline with varying proportions of the other two components. Isopropanol has been found to bring about a marked increase in the critical water content of gasoline-ethanol mixtures to which it is added. Benzene is shown to be of little value for this purpose within the range of mixtures studied.
