A general on-the-fly algorithm for modifying the kinematic tree hierarchyWhen conducting a dynamic simulation of a multibody mechanical system, the model definition may need to be altered during the simulation course due to, e.g., changes in the way the system interacts with external objects. In this paper, we propose a general procedure for modifying simulation models of articulated figures, particularly useful when dealing with systems in time-varying contact with the environment. The proposed algorithm adjusts model connectivity, geometry and current state, producing its equivalent ready to be used by the simulation procedure. Furthermore, we also provide a simple usage scenario—a passive planar biped walker.

This paper will first briefly map out the shift from disciplinary to control societies (what I call designer capitalism, the idea of control comes from Gilles Deleuze) in relation to surveillance and mediation of life through screen cultures. The paper then shifts to the issues of digitalization in relation to big data that have the danger of continuing to close off life as zoë, that is life that is creative rather than captured via attention technologies through marketing techniques and surveillance. The last part of this paper then develops the way artists are able to resist the big data archive by turning the data in on itself to offer viewers and participants a glimpse of the current state of manipulating desire and maintaining copy right in order to keep the future closed rather than being potentially open.

The pervasiveness of online social networks has reshaped the way people access information. Online social networks make it common for users to inform themselves online and share news among their peers, but also favor the spreading of both reliable and fake news alike. Because fake news may have a profound impact on the society at large, realistically simulating their spreading process helps evaluate the most effective countermeasures to adopt. It is customary to model the spreading of fake news via the same epidemic models used for common diseases; however, these models often miss concepts and dynamics that are peculiar to fake news spreading. In this paper, we fill this gap by enriching typical epidemic models for fake news spreading with network topologies and dynamics that are typical of realistic social networks. Specifically, we introduce agents with the role of influencers and bots in the model and consider the effects of dynamical network access patterns, time-varying engagement, and different degrees of trust in the sources of circulating information. These factors concur with making the simulations more realistic. Among other results, we show that influencers that share fake news help the spreading process reach nodes that would otherwise remain unaffected. Moreover, we emphasize that bots dramatically speed up the spreading process and that time-varying engagement and network access change the effectiveness of fake news spreading.

Formulating the dynamics equations of a mechanical system following a multibody dynamics approach often leads to a set of highly nonlinear differential-algebraic equations (DAEs). While this form of the equations of motion is suitable for a wide range of practical applications, in some cases it is necessary to have access to the linearized system dynamics. This is the case when stability and modal analyses are to be carried out; the definition of plant and system models for certain control algorithms and state estimators also requires a linear expression of the dynamics. A number of methods for the linearization of multibody dynamics can be found in the literature. They differ in both the approach that they follow to handle the equations of motion and the way in which they deliver their results, which in turn are determined by the selection of the generalized coordinates used to describe the mechanical system. This selection is closely related to the way in which the kinematic constraints of the system are treated. Three major approaches can be distinguished and used to categorize most of the linearization methods published so far. In this work, we demonstrate the properties of each approach in the linearization of systems in static equilibrium, illustrating them with the study of two representative examples.

The notion of silence must be handled very carefully. In addition, its use reveals the way we deal with the urban environment as well as social life. What does the notion of silence convey about the current state of the urban sonic environment? How can we clarify the various meanings and the stakes involved in silence? Three themes are developed in order to answer these questions: silence as a research topic presents three complementary perspectives (acoustic, sociocultural, technological); silence as a polysemous notion emphasises the ideas of keeping quiet, tranquillity and pause; silence as a design issue relies on basic properties and principles in order to orient the design of the urban sonic environment.

The search for an optimal balance between the result of legal proceedings and the way to achieve it is currently one of the most important areas of development of procedural legislation. In this regard, there is a need to use not only the general procedure for the consideration and resolution of cases, but also a special one, which contributes to the rational simplification and acceleration of procedures. In this sense, the study of the procedural form used in the claim and simplified proceedings is of particular value. The author comes to the conclusion that in simplified proceedings, a truncated procedural form is used, which is characterized by such manifestations of procedural economy as the absence of a preliminary meeting, summoning the parties to a court session, the prohibition of the court’s examination of evidence provided in violation of deadlines, making a decision without a reasoned part, etc. It is noted that the effectiveness of arbitration proceedings should not be achieved by violating the fundamental principles of civil proceedings. In conclusion, the author concludes that the procedural form should be defined as a system of scientifically grounded, normatively defined conditions of effective and correct resolution of civil cases, determined by legal relations to be protected.

This chapter analyzed how Japanese teachers' qualifications and abilities, as well as educational policies, have been promoted since the postwar period to the present day and summarized these results. There are discrepancies between the needs of students' families and the real world and the ideas and contents required by the Course of Study. Teachers have tried to play a positive role in bridging the gap and in merging the reality and the ideals. In order to bridge the “difference” faced by school sites, it is necessary to start by examining the contents of the reforms required from the bottom and reforms required from the top. As an initiative from below, in most elementary schools in Japan, groups of teachers have voluntarily gathered, and “Jugyo-Kenkyu” have been conducted for many years to analyze the challenges of their own school's students as a team. Although Jugyo-Kenkyu has achieved some positive results, the way to measure the effectiveness of the research is still an issue.
