: Investment decision making is a complex process that includes analysis of several factors and follows various steps. The purpose of this study is to identify factors that influence investment decision making among potential individual investors in Indonesia. Four behavioral factors can influence investment decision making, namely Financial literacy, financial experience, locus of control and experience regret A set of questionnaires were distributed to 420 individual stock investors to measure their investment decisions. The results of this study indicate that financial literacy, locus of control, and financial experience have a positive relationship with their investment decisions, while the Regret experience has a negative relationship with their investment decisions. This study provides information that can help guide future research and help formulate policy-makers as well as educate on the factors that can influence investors' decisions.

PurposeThis paper aims to show how overconfidence influences the decisions and performance of individual investors trading on the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), with the mediating role of risk perception and moderating role of financial literacy.Design/methodology/approachThe deductive approach was used, as the research is based on the theoretical framework of behavioural finance. A questionnaire and cross-sectional design were employed for data collection from the sample of 183 individual investors trading on the PSX. Hypotheses were tested through correlation and regression analysis. The Baron and Kenny method was used to test the mediation effect of risk perception and the moderation effect of financial literacy. The results of mediation and moderation were also authenticated through the PROCESS and structural equation modelling (SEM) technique.FindingsThe results suggest that risk perception fully mediates the relationships between the overconfidence heuristic on the one hand, and investment decisions and performance on the other. At the same time, financial literacy appears to moderate these relationships. The results suggest that overconfidence can impair the quality of investment decisions and performance, while financial literacy and risk perception can improve their quality.Practical implicationsThe paper encourages investors to base decisions on their financial capability and experience levels and to avoid relying on heuristics or their sentiments when making investments. It provides awareness and understanding of heuristic biases in investment management, which could be very useful for decision makers and professionals in financial institutions, such as portfolio managers and traders in commercial banks, investment banks and mutual funds. This paper helps investors to select better investment tools and avoid repeating the expensive errors that occur due to heuristic biases. They can improve their performance by recognizing their biases and errors of judgment, to which we are all prone, resulting in better investment decisions and a more efficient market. The paper also highlights the importance on relying on professional knowledge, giving it greater weight than feelings and biases.Originality/valueThe current study is the first to focus on links between overconfidence, financial literacy, risk perception and individual investors' decisions and performance. This article enhanced the understanding of the role that heuristic-driven bias plays in the investment management, and more importantly, it went some way towards enhancing understanding of behavioural aspects and their influence on the investment decision-making and performance in an emerging market. It also adds to the literature in the area of behavioural finance specifically the role of heuristics in investment strategies; this field is in its initial stage, even in developed countries, while, in developing countries, little work has been done.

Investors’ financial literacy entails making sound investment decisions and the behavioural biases or irrational behaviour in decision-making that are collectively formed by heuristic bias, framing effect, cognitive illusions and herd mentality factors. The present study examines the combined impact of financial literacy and behavioural biases on investment decisions. A questionnaire was developed using Likert scaling technique to elicit study variables and collected data was analysed using SEM technique. The results showed that heuristic bias had a significant positive association with the creation of behavioural bias in decision-making. However, the framing effect, cognitive illusions and herd mentality have negative associations in the formation of behavioural biases. Further, investors often practice and follow heuristic biases rather than other irrational techniques for making investment decisions. Therefore, the financial literacy of individual investors has a significant impact on affecting stock market investment decisions.

This paper aims to assess the impact of heuristics on the investment decision by analysing the effect of four heuristic biases, i.e., representativeness, availability, anchoring and adjustment, and overconfidence bias on rationality of Nepalese investor's investment decision-making and also examines the moderating effect of the internal locus of control in between. The study used 391 respondents based on a convenient sampling procedure, and structured questionnaire survey. The study result indicates that there is a significant relationship between irrationality in investment decision-making and all four heuristic biases. In addition, the study also concludes that locus of control has significant moderating effect in the relationship between investment decisions and three heuristic biases, i.e., availability, representative and anchoring bias. However, the study documents no moderation effect in case of relationship with overconfidence bias.

The results of the study found 1) Financial literacy influences investment decisions on investment decision making.2) Optimum bias affects investment decisions on investment decision making. 3) Representativness influences investment decisions on investment decision making. 4) Together financial literacy variables, the optimum bias and representativness together influence the investment decision on investment decision making

Individual investor’s behavior is extensively influenced by various biases that highlighted in the growing discipline of behavior finance. Therefore, this study is also one of another effort to assess the impact of behavioral biases in investment decision-making in National Stock Exchange. A questionnaire is designed and through survey responses collected from 243 investors. The present research has applied inferential statistics and descriptive statistics. In the existing study, four behavioral biases have been reviewed namely, overconfidence, anchoring, disposition effect and herding behavior. The results show that overconfidence and herding bias have significant positive impact on investment decision. Overall results conclude that individual investors have limited knowledge and more prone towards making psychological errors. The findings of the study also indicate the existence of these four behavioral biases on individual investment decisions. This study will be helpful to financial intermediaries to advice their clients. Further, study can be elaborated to study other behavioral biases on investment decisions.

Abstract:The purpose of this research is to analyze the factors that investors should consider in stock investment decision making. This research was conducted to assess the interest in investing and consideration when investing which is influenced by representative bias, availability bias, and locus of control. This research was tested using Smart PLS application. Data collection from this study was conducted by distributing questionnaires as many as 353 people in Batam city. Representative bias significantly positively affects investment decision making, availability bias significantly and positively in investment decisions, availability bias moderated locus of control has no effect on investment decision making, and representative bias moderated locus of control has no effect on investment decision making. This research facilitates investors in making investment decisions in Batam city, judging from several factors that influence the decision making helps investors in determining investment and considering every factor that influences Decision making. Abstrak: Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisa faktor yang harus dipertimbangkan investor dalam pengambilan keputusan investasi Saham. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk menilai ketertarikan dalam melakukan investasi dan pertimbangan saat berinvestasi yang dipengaruhi oleh representative bias, availability bias, dan locus of control. Penelitian ini di uji dengan menggunakan aplikasi Smart PLS. Pengumpulan data dari penelitian ini dilakukan dengan cara menyebarkan kuesioner sebanyak 353 orang yang berada kota Batam. Representative bias secara signifikan positif mempengaruhi investment desicion making, availability bias secara signifikan dan positif dalam keputusan investasi, availability bias yang dimoderasi locus of control tidak berpengaruh terhadap investment decision making, dan representative bias yang dimoderasi locus of control tidak berpengaruh terhadap investment decision making. Penelitian ini memberi kemudahan investor dalam mengambil keputusan investasi di kota Batam, dilihat dari beberapa faktor yang mempengaruhi pengambilan keputusan ini membantu para investor dalam menentukan investasi dan mempertimbangkan setiap faktor yang mempengaruhi Decision making.

Individual investments behaviour is concerned with choices about purchases of small amounts of securities for his or her own account. Decision tools often support investment decisions. It is assumed that information structure and the factors in the market systematically influence individuals’ investment decisions as well as market outcomes. It is assumed that information structure and the factors in the market systematically influence individuals’ investment decisions as well as market outcomes. Investor market behaviour derives from psychological principles of decision making to explain why people buy or sell stocks. These factors will focus upon how investors interpret and act on information to make investment decisions. The purpose of the study was to identify the factors that influence investment decision making among potential individual investors in Malaysia. Three behavioural factors might influence investment decision making which are accounting-information, firm-image coincidence and personal-financial-needs. A set of questionnaire was distributed to 384 potential investors in Malaysia specifically in housing area of Klang Valley as population of this study. Based on the findings, it showed that there is positive relationship between accounting-information, firm-image-coincidence and personal-financial-needs in investment decision making. Hence, between these three behavioural factors, accounting-information, firm-image coincidence and personal-financial-needs, the main influential factor is accounting-information. This study also proposed a future research for investment decision making and give implications to the potential investors, community, organization, policy makers and investment practitioners.

PurposeThis study aims to explore the importance of past behaviour and financial literacy in the investment decision-making of individual investors and examines the validity of the theory of planned behaviour in this context.Design/methodology/approachThe study used a self-administered questionnaire and adopted the convenience sampling technique followed by a snowball sampling method for the survey to collect data from the individual investors covering the four distinct states of India. Collected data were analysed on AMOS 20.0 using two-step structural equation modelling (SEM).FindingsResults indicated a significant effect of all the predictive variables. Past behaviour showed no significant direct impact on investor's intention; however, it had an indirect significant relationship while mediated by the attitude of investors. The multiple squared correlation (R2) showed that the final model could explain 36% of the variance in investors' intention towards stock investment which signified a successful implementation of the TPB model along with external variables added to it. Moreover, Indian investors were found to be highly influenced, primarily, by social pressure which could be curbed through financial literacy.Practical implicationsA significant importance of subjective norms was found on stock market participation which could be a strategic theme for the government and the policymakers to educate investors through their opinion leaders for increasing their participation. Moreover, by doing so investors could control their behaviour and take rational decisions.Originality/valueThis study extended the understandings of investor's decision-making behaviour using TPB by incorporating the two external variables viz., Financial literacy and past behaviour. The addition of past behaviour is perhaps the novelty of this article since such examination has not been conducted empirically especially in the case of developing countries like India.

Market irregularities and irrational behavior triggered investor’s changes in the stock market, and this has led to an investigation into the impact of various behavioral biases and factors affecting decision-making for individual investors. The quality of individual investor behavior in making stock investment decisions is very important to be understood as a reference of the movement of the capital market. This study investigated the role of behavioral finance and investor psychology in investment decision-making at the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSE). Using a sample of 147 individual investors, the study established that behavioral factors such as Herding, Heuristic, Market and Prospect that affected the decisions of the investors operating at the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSE). As there are a few studies in Pakistan related to behavioral finance, so this study mainly contributes to the field of behavioral finance in Pakistan. This study focusses on existing theories of behavioral finance which led to develop the hypothesis. The result of the analysis is that the four variables have greatly influenced the investment decision and return on investment. All behavioral variables have a significant impact on the decision-making process of investors, which led to the acceptance of all assumptions regarding the level of influence of behavioral factors in decision making for individual investors

<p class="IABSSS"><strong>Purpose</strong> - The purpose of this study is to determine the effects of accounting knowledge, entrepreneurial traits, and subjective norms on the use of accounting information on making investment decisions of MSME actors in Gunungkidul Regency.</p><p class="IABSSS"><strong>Method </strong>- This study uses quantitative research methodology by purposive sampling. The gathered data in this study were processed using the SPSS program. This study was carried out on 20 February to 20 March 2020. The population in this study was businessmen of MSMEs in Gunungkidul Regency who had used accounting documentation. The research took 60 respondents as a sample of the study.  </p><p class="IABSSS"><strong>Result</strong> - This study resulted that the variables of accounting knowledge and entrepreneurial traits have a positive and significant effect on the use of accounting information in making investment decisions of MSME actors in Gunungkidul Regency; While the subjective norms variable does not have a positive and significant effect on the use of accounting information in making investment decisions of MSME actors in the Gunungkidul Regency.</p><p class="IABSSS"><strong>Implication</strong> - Future research can expand the object of research in several other regencies and can add other research variables.</p><strong>Originality</strong> - The researchers added an independent variable that is subjective norms and entrepreneurial traits, whereas the previous researchers only used accounting knowledge as the independent variable.
