ResumoA História da Educação cada vez mais debruça seu olhar sobre práticas não escolares da educação, entendendo que esta é realizada dentro de um mosaico de interações sociais. Compreender as utilidades e os significados dos aspectos materiais envolvidos na transmissão de práticas culturais é um fator fundamental e determinante para se conhecer os processos educativos envolvidos em qualquer fenômeno sociocultural em que habite uma relação de ensino-aprendizagem. Este artigo objetivou investigar a cultura material do patrimônio cultural imaterial que é a Capoeira, e seus processos pedagógicos no Rio de Janeiro no século XIX. Este estudo ilumina parcialmente acomplexa relação dos sujeitos que desenvolveram o modo de fazer a Capoeira – cultura imaterial – com os objetos, materiais e ambientes que compuseram a cultura material do jogo-luta, e suas respectivas simbologias, bem como o seu modo de transmissão e aprendizagem no período estudado.Palavras-chave: Capoeira; Cultura Material; História. The materiality of an immaterial culture: aspects of material culture of Capoeira in Rio de Janeiro in the nineteenth centuryAbstractThe history of education increasingly focuses on non-school education practices, understanding that this is done within a mosaic of social interactions. Understanding the uses and meanings of the material aspects involved in the transmission of cultural practices is an essential and determining factor to know the educational processes involved in any sociocultural phenomenon that inhabits a relationship of teaching and learning. This article aimed to investigate the material culture of the intangible cultural heritage that is Capoeira, and its pedagogical processes in Rio de Janeiro in the nineteenth century. This study partially illuminates the complex relationship of individuals who developed the way of doing Capoeira - immaterial culture - with objects, materials and environments that formed the material culture of the play-fighting, its symbols, and its mode of transmission and learning during the studied time.Keywords: Capoeira; Material Culture; History.

This paper explores identity and the recursive impacts of cross-cultural colonial encounters on individuals, cultural materials, and cultural practices in 20th-century northern Australia. We focus on an assemblage of cached metal objects and associated cultural materials that embody both Aboriginal tradition and innovation. These cultural materials were wrapped in paperbark and placed within a ring of stones, a bundling practice also seen in human burials in this region. This ‘cache' is located in close proximity to rockshelters with rich, superimposed Aboriginal rock art compositions. However, the cache shelter has no visible art, despite available wall space. The site shows the utilisation of metal objects as new raw materials that use traditional techniques to manufacture a ground edge metal axe and to sharpen metal rods into spears. We contextualise these objects and their hypothesised owner(s) within narratives of invasion/contact and the ensuing pastoral history of this region. Assemblage theory affords us an appropriate theoretical lens through which to bring people, places, objects, and time into conversation.

Este estudo histórico investigou apropriações das propostas reformistas da Escola Nova no que tange ao ensino da Aritmética para a escola primária em cinco cadernos de um aluno, de terceiro e quarto anos do curso primário, dos anos de 1952 e 1953, respectivamente, e no primeiro volume do manual didático “Práticas Escolares” que teve sua primeira edição em 1940 e décima edição em 1965, de autoria de Antonio D’Ávila. Utiliza-se como base teórico-metodológica a História Cultural na direção de dar significado às apropriações que foram feitas em relação à aritmética da escola primária em tempos da Escola Nova. Há uma predominância da resolução de problemas aritméticos ligados ao cotidiano dos alunos, indicando uma preocupação com a abstração dos conceitos com foco em uma aritmética prática, que tinha por finalidade preparar o aluno para a vida fora da escola após quatro anos de estudo no curso primário. Observa-se uma valorização do aluno como indivíduo, com respeito ao seu ritmo e dificuldades apresentadas na aprendizagem da Aritmética, um dos aspectos marcantes da Escola Nova, o aluno considerado como protagonista do processo de ensino e de aprendizagem, podendo interagir no meio social em uma formação mais humana.Palavras-chave: Aritmética. História da Educação Matemática.AbstractThis historical study investigated appropriations of the New School for the teaching of Arithmetic for the primary school in five books of a student, of the third and the fourth years of the primary course, of the years of 1952 and 1953, respectively, And in the first Volume of the didactic manual “School Practices” that had its first edition in 1940 and tenth edition in 1965, authored by Antonio D’Ávila. It is used as a theoretical-methodological basis for the Cultural History in the direction of provide meaning the appropriations that were made in relation to the primary school in times of the New School. There is a predominance of solving arithmetic problems related to students’ daily life, indicating a preoccupation with an abstraction of concepts with a focus on an arithmetic practice, whose purpose was to prepare a student for the life outside of school after four years of primary school. It is observed the evaluation of the student as an individual, with respect to its rhythm and difficulties presented in the learning of Arithmetic, one of the markers of the New School, the student considered the protagonist of the process of teaching and learning, being able To interact in the social environment in a more humane formation.Keywords: Arithmetic. The history of coring and augering at archaeological sites is traced to two periods in the twentieth century. In the first period, Period I (1935-1955), the technique was used primarily to correlate archaeological deposits with river sediments for dating purposes. Rarely were the deposits containing artifacts cored or augered; rather the stratigraphic relationship of cultural to non-cultural deposits was sought. Most of this work was done in the Lower Mississippi River Delta where geologists had calculated absolute dates for river deposits. This period seems to have ended with the availability of radiometric dating and was followed by Period II (1964-present). After 1964 there is a renewed interest in coring and augering, mostly following a shift in archaeological research interests from culture history toward ecological questions. This shift coincides with the availability of a new device: a mechanical corer. During Period II, coring is utilized in many different projects, including reconstructing the environment surrounding sites, collection of samples from subsurface deposits, and locating buried archaeological sites. Following the discussion of the history of coring and augering, a description of equipment, techniques, and data potential is presented.

The article provides information on the report of F. V. Kiparisov, kept in the Archives of the Russian Academy of Sciences, "The Subject and Method of Archeology" and discussions on the report at the meeting of the Institute of History of the Communist Academy, dated November 29, 1931. The aim of the work was to introduce an unpublished archival source into scientific circulation on the history of archeology. As a result of studying the document, some conclusions can be drawn: the main advantage of the scientific work of F. V. Kiparisov, in our opinion, is an attempt to determine the place of archeology in historical science as an auxiliary scientific discipline. The scientist assigned a special place to material sources in the study of thehistorical development of society. At the same time, the report did not touch upon the questions of the methods of archeology, stated in the title of the speech. As for the relationship of archeology with the history of material culture, the differences between them were not convincing enough by the speaker. During the discussion on the report, scientists of the Institute of History criticized the position of the speaker both on issues of archeology and on the history of material cultures. The information provided will expand the source base on the history of archeology and can be used for research and educational purposes.

AbstractChronology is a fundamental prerequisite for problem-oriented, anthropologically relevant archaeology. It is also the shaky foundation that has hampered attempts to reconstruct the culture history of Cholula, Mexico. Cholula is among the oldest continuously occupied urban centers of the New World, yet it remains one of the most enigmatic. This paper evaluates previous cultural sequences for the site, and summarizes recent evidence to construct a chronology using absolute dates and ceramic assemblages from primary depositional contexts. This revised sequence features a clearer understanding of Middle Formative settlement and the definition of ritual and domestic contexts from the Classic period. In addition, there is now evidence for a gradual transition between Late Classic and Early Postclassic material culture; and for the evolution of the Postclassic polychrome tradition within a sequence of short, clearly defined phases.

In this paper we present an evaluation of an App for mobile devices, ‘Roteiro dos Descobrimentos’, as an educational digital resource for primary school students. The study involved the participation of 131 students and eight teachers. Data were collected from participant observation, students’ questionnaires and interviews to students and teachers. According to students, they learned new things, related with the topics explored, in an easy and funny way. Students also emphasized as positive aspects the fact that they had to face different challenges and the need to mobilize their knowledge to solve them. Teachers referred that students showed great interest and enthusiasm during the activities. As main gains, teachers stressed that the application fosters the relationship of students with the city, facilitates collaboration, and promotes students’ autonomy. In resume, it seems that the playful and interactive dimension of the App promoted the development of important skills such as the ability to interact with the environment, collaborative work, autonomy, and reading and interpretation skills. As a conclusion, there is a great receptivity to integrate mobile technologies in the teaching and learning process, but the role of the teacher can’t be dismissed, as a mediator and educator.

This paper discusses the questions concerned with the Taman Expedition of the State Academy of the History of Material Culture (GAIMK) headed by Aleksandr A. Miller. Notwithstanding the ever-increasing number of publications devoted to the history of the national archaeology during the 1920s–1930s, many of its moments still remain unknown. This is true, inter alia, concerning the history of the organization and activities of the Taman Expedi- tion in 1930.

O artigo tem por objetivo apreender as práticas culturais adotadas no processo de constituição da vida escolar, por meio da circulação de livros e compêndios escolares em espaços de venda e de leitura na cidade da Paraá­ba dos oitocentos. Para tanto, utilizou-se como base teórica as concepções da historiografia acerca da cultura material e, posteriormente, da cultura material escolar na leitura e interpretação do corpus documental. Documentos oficiais e 11 jornais que circularam na prová­ncia no perá­odo foram as fontes principais para o estudo que vem a público. Para a primeira metade do século XIX localizamos apenas um local destinado á  leitura, trata-se da Biblioteca Pública do Liceu, e nenhum espaço de venda. Na segunda metade do século XIX, porém, foi possá­vel perceber uma mudança no que diz respeito aos locais de venda de livros, compêndios e artefatos escolares e aos espaços de leitura na prová­ncia. Identificaram-se ainda contatos interprovinciais e entre a Parahyba do Norte e o Municá­pio da Corte, por meio da recepção de livros vindos das editoras do Rio de Janeiro de outras prová­ncias localizadas na região Norte á  época. Cultura material escolar.  SCHOOL BOOK SREADING AND SELLING SPACES IN PARAáBA CITY (1850-1889) Abstract: This paper aims to understand the cultural practices in the establishment process of school life through the circulation of books and educational textbooks on selling and reading spaces in the 19th century Paraá­ba City. As theoretical basis the paper uses the historiographical conceptions about material culture and, subsequently, about the school material culture to read and analyze the documental corpus. The main sources for this analysis were official documents and 11 newspapers that circulated in the Northern Paraá­ba province during the period. For the first half of the 19th Century we were able to locate only a single place for the reading, the Liceu”™s Public Library, and no retail place. In 19th century”™s second half, however, we noticed a change in books, textbooks and school artifacts”™ selling and reading spaces in the province. The research identified interprovincial contacts between the Northern Paraá­ba and the Court, with registered reception of books coming from Rio de Janeiro and other provinces”™ publishers located in the North at that time. School material culture.  ESPACIOS DE LECTURA Y VENDA DE LIBROS DIDáCTICOS EN LA CIUDAD DE PARAIBA-BRASIL (1850-1889)Resumen: El artá­culo se propone aprehender las prácticas culturales desarrolladas en el proceso de constitución de vida académica, por medio de la circulación de libros y compendios escolares en espacios de venda y lectura en la ciudad de Paraá­ba. Para eso, se utilizó como fundamento teórico las concepciones de la historiografá­a sobre la cultura material y, posteriormente, de la cultura material académica en la lectura e interpretación del corpus documental. Documentos oficiales y once periódicos que circularon en la provincia durante el periodo fueron las fuentes principales para la presente investigación. Situamos en la primera mitad del siglo XIX, un espacio destinado a la lectura, la Biblioteca Pública de Liceu, sin espacio para ventas. Sin embargo, en la segunda mitad del siglo XIX, no fueron perceptibles los cambios en lo que se refiere a los locales de ventas de libros, compendios y artefactos escolares y en los espacios de lectura en la provincia. Fueron identificados, todavá­a, contactos interprovinciales y entre Paraá­ba do Norte y Municipio da Corte, por medio de recepción de libros originados de editoras de Rio de Janeiro y de otras provincias situadas en la región Norte.
