Introduction: For six and a half decades, the School of Nursing at Universidad del Valle has been involved in multiple searches on the perspective of constructing and projecting a socially committed exercise in the profession. This article seeks to expose the processes, reflections, and actions having to do with the discipline’s development as a central concern of the School, as well as to also declare the future responsibilities presented by complex and inescapable challenges. The challenge of the disciplinary development in the School of Nursing: We sought to guide the conceptual development in Nursing through the production and validation of knowledge appertaining to the discipline and of the professional practice substantiated on Human Care, via the development of three areas: formation of professors, students, and healthcare professionals; development of research in alliance with healthcare services to facilitate innovation in Nursing Care, and the implementation of Nursing Service Models based on Human Care. How is the future perceived: Management of this project has led to understanding that the process of disciplinary reflection goes beyond a project and involves a more ambitious wager than a School Plan; i.e., it will have to become a Government Plan without overlooking that what is important is to challenge the discipline and that this implies a real impact on the care offered in health services by Nursing professionals.

Telemedicine could be one of the solutions for challenges in healthcare, especially in this time of the Covid-19 pandemic. The results of the research about the state of telemedicine services in Slovenia are presented in this article. We found several telemedicine solutions in Slovenian healthcare. Metadata for them were collected. The solutions are placed in groups of telemonitoring, provision of healthcare services by remotely connecting patients with a doctor or healthcare professional and remote cooperation for the patient's treatment between doctors or healthcare professionals who are physically at different locations. The opinions of the research participants regarding the challenges associated with telemedicine services in Slovenia were also collected. They are placed in three main groups: financing, healthcare system and healthcare professionals. Telemedicine is a necessity and the future of Slovenian healthcare services. If a solution is to be applied successfully, business processes must be changed so that a practically useful service can arise from the solution.

Objective: Investigate the understanding of nurses who work at a teaching hospital, in relation to NCS and the nursing process; ascertain facilities/difficulties related to the applicability of the nursing process in that service; and verify the opinions of those professionals for the improvement and/or effectiveness of the nursing process at the hospitalization units of the hospital. Method: Exploratory, descriptive study, with a qualitative approach. The sample consisted of 42 nurses who answered a questionnaire. The empirical material was analyzed and categorized based on the content analysis technique and discussed in the light of the literature. Results: From the participants' discourses, two categories of analysis emerged: 1) understanding of NCS as a tool to organize the Nursing work process and improve the quality of care; and 2) applicability of the nursing process at the various hospitalization units of the institution. Conclusion: The implementation and applicability of that method depend on not only the knowledge and motivation of the nursing professionals, but also on a strategic planning involving management and staff, from the recognition of their importance in order to obtain adherence and effective operationalization in practice. Descriptors: Nursing; Nursing Process; Professional Practice.

The majority of human beings will be admitted to hospital at some point over the course of their lives. For the more fortunate among us, these hospital stays will be brief and will barely register as a significant experience. However, for others, being admitted for weeks or months at a time will be necessary in order to combat and recover from whatever it was that made admittance to hospital necessary. While it is easy to think of many reasons why a prolonged hospital stay might be undesirable, one that may escape our attention is the clothes that are worn by patients during their stay. Once a patient has been assigned a bed, they are often given a gown which they put on without thought and then lie down. The gowns that are given to patients are generally designed with healthcare professionals in mind. For example, in Japan pyjamas and yukata (bathrobes) are used as hospital gowns because they have a front opening that is easy to use during treatment and nursing care. In addition, the other gowns can be opened from the ankle to the crotch using the zip. Dr Naoko Fujii has focused her career on designing clothes for hospital patients and believes that there is a way to satisfy the practical needs of a hospital and the care it gives at the same time as satisfying the requirements of patients. She is now focusing her attention on this challenge.

OBJECTIVE: to understand the future expectations and experience of vulnerable mothers from pregnancy to their child's early years. METHODS: this qualitative study used the social phenomenology of Alfred Schütz as a framework. From January to April 2011, nine mothers from the 2009 program "Chile Grows with You" were interviewed at health centers in an urban Santiago de Chile community. RESULTS: analysis of the "lived type" led to an understanding of the mothers' real-world experience. Unexpected pregnancies in extremely vulnerable mothers are associated with feelings of hopelessness then resignation. There is no plan for the future; the mother lives in the present with great uncertainty. CONCLUSIONS: from the mothers' stories, significant patterns were identified in their experiences, yielding insights into society from these women's perspectives. For humanized, comprehensive nursing care, this expertise directs interventions designed to overcome despair in women excluded because of their invisibility and poverty.
