Innovations in regenerative medicine and cell therapy have made possible multiple breakings in the laws and paradigms that determined the beginnings of 20th century biology. The destabilisation of categories and heteronormative dichotomies that demarcated this science made possible the irruption of studies that separated genetic research from sex. Even so, the current implementation of these techno-scientific developments produce other types of exclusion mechanisms we will analyse from a bio-economic point of view: from the reinforcement of the conditions of vulnerability of women donors, to the support of therapeutic promises that semiotically disconnect the contexts of uncertainty of these technologies or the implementation of a performative understanding of health in terms of individual consumption.

Understanding pancreatic development is important for at least three reasons: first, from a cognitive point of view, to understand the development of a complex organ, the pancreas; next, because it is now clear that abnormal pancreatic development can give rise to specific forms of diabetes in humans; and finally, because, if we want to define new treatments for diabetes based on cell therapy or regenerative medicine, we will have to understand in detail how β-cells develop. In the present paper, we summarize what we currently know concerning pancreatic development and concentrate on some intercellular and environmental signals controlling pancreatic development.

The essential characteristics of contemporary dental medicine are the precision, avant-garde, technologization and successful clinical purpose of cell therapy with the prospect of further application in the clinical practice of cell therapy methods and other performance methods based on the knowledge of cell biology and regenerative medicine in full function ; despite the very different environments, such teeth can develop normal in adult jaw; thus, if suitable cells can be found that, by combination, produce immature teeth, there is the potential for bio- teeth to become a clinical reality .The maxillary frontal area represents the most important area of the maxillae from an aesthetic point of view and the prosthetic restoration of this area is of primary interest in ensuring the appearance, phonation, incision, in human communication and in the structuring of the individual personality. Affecting the maxillary frontal area or through coronary destruction consecutive cavities and their complications, discolouration, dental malpositions disgraceful or due to lack of dental periodontal units creates problem in the aesthetic prosthetics. These changes existing at the front arcade level cause major disturbances to the physiognomy, to the phonation. In the Clinic of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, in a period of 2 years, between 2016 and 2018, we noticed, solved and followed a number of 129 cases; 57 patients-lot endodontic and surgical therapy study; 72 patients, study group prosthetic restorations. Due to the functional role that the maxillary front teeth play, the corrections have to be made within the limits of functional tolerance that fall within the normal occlusal parameters because the functional disturbances dictated only by the aesthetics are not tolerated and can lead to large imbalances. The complex oral rehabilitation of the different clinical cases encountered in the dental practice is largely a challenge for the dentist due to the high degree of different affect but present on all the elements of the system. To implement any successful policy, research about the subject-matter is essential. Lack of knowledge would result in failure and, from an economic point of view, it would lead to a waste of scarce resources. The book under review is essentially a manual which highlights the use of research for development. The book is divided into two parts. Part One informs the reader about concepts and some theory, and Part Two deals with the issue of undertaking research for development. Both parts have 11 chapters each. Chapter 1 asks the basic question: Is research important in development work? The answer is that it is. Research has many dimensions: from the basic asking of questions to the more sophisticated broad-based analysis of policy issues. The chapter, in short, stresses the usefulness of research which development workers ignore at their own peril.

The purpose of this study is the analysis of limit situation in the narrative of war. The material of the study is the novel of Daniil Granin “My Lieutenant” and related texts. In the first part of the paper, the authors explore existing approaches to the term “limit situation” and similar concepts into scientific and philosophical traditions; limits of its applicability in literary studies and its relation to the categories of “narrative instances” and “event”. Proposed a literary-theoretical definition of the limit situation, which can be used in the analysis of fiction texts. Existing approaches to the examination of the situation of war are analyzed: philosophical-existential, psychoanalytic, sociological, literary. In the second part of the paper, the authors propose their method for analyzing limit situations in texts about war, which basis on existing approaches and preserves the text-centric principle of studying the structure of the story. Two interrelated areas of research have been identified: the study of war as a continuous limit situation in the intertextual aspect (the discourse of war); the study of limit situations (death, suffering, guilt, accident) in the narrative of war as part of a specific text. In the third part of the scientific work,the analysis of war as a continuous limit situation results in the study of the concept of “limit” (border) in a fiction text. The role of “limit” (border) concept in the texts about the war is studied, the possible types of limits in the discourse of war are examined. Limit situations in the narrative of war are analyzed on the basis of the novel “My Lieutenant” by Daniil Granin. A review of journalistic and scientific works about the novel revealed both the continuity and the differences between the novel and the “lieutenant” prose of the 20th century. An analysis of the limit situations in the novel revealed their key position in the narrative. These situations are independent of the fiction time, of the fluctuation of the point of view’; the function of the abstract author is to build the narrative as a “directive” immersion of the hero and narrator in these situations.

ABSTRACT This case originates from a real-life business situation and illustrates the application of impairment tests in accordance with IFRS and U.S. GAAP. In the first part of the case study, students examine conceptual questions of impairment tests under IFRS and U.S. GAAP with respect to applicable accounting standards, definitions, value concepts, and frequency of application. In addition, the case encourages students to discuss the impairment regime from an economic point of view. The second part of the instructional resource continues to provide instructors with the flexibility of applying U.S. GAAP and/or IFRS when students are asked to test a long-lived asset for impairment and, if necessary, allocate any potential impairment. This latter part demonstrates that impairment tests require professional judgment that students are to exercise in the case.

This chapter presents an overview of how D&I research can be evaluated from an economic point of view. Dissemination and implementation imposes costs upon knowledge purveyors, provider organizations, public health organizations, and payers (including governments). However, whether these added costs will result in improved service delivery and, perhaps more importantly, client outcomes and improvements in population health remain as open questions. If emerging studies reveal that defined implementation strategies are more cost effective than “usual” implementation, then policymakers and service providers will need to resource these added costs of implementation in order to assure the success and sustainability of high-quality health services over the long term.

To make biofuel production feasible from an economic point of view, several studies have investigated the main associated bottlenecks of the whole production process through approaches such as the “cradle to grave” approach or the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) analysis, being the main constrains the feedstock collection and transport. Whilst several feedstocks are interesting because of their high sugar content, very few of them are available all year around and moreover do not require high transportation’ costs. This work aims to investigate if the “zero miles” concept could bring advantages to biofuel production by decreasing all the associated transport costs on a locally established production platform. In particular, a specific case study applied to the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) campus is used as example to investigate the advantages and feasibility of using the spent coffee grounds generated at the main cafeteria for the production of bioethanol on site, which can be subsequently used to (partially) cover the campus’ energy demands.
