The specialty coffee market is still little known and underexplored in Brazil, motivating an analysis of the competitive pressures and structure of the artisan coffee roaster segment in the state of Minas Gerais, in order to better understand it and encourage the adoption of specific policies for its expansion, besides comparing it to the commodity coffee roasting segment. A multi-case study was performed with three companies in this segment through in-depth interviews with their owners. There were significant changes in the competitive forces that shape the coffee industry, when comparing the specialty and commodity coffee segments, both in intensity and in motivations. Among the suggested policies to support the specialty coffee segment are its promotion and dissemination through “consumer education” and awareness raising on the differentiated properties of these products, besides providing subsidized courses and specializations for those who wish to be involved in this marketplace.

The aims is to determine the correlation of the motivational and productive factors in the institutional context of the Civil Police. The case study was conducted by in-depth interviews with a Chief of Police, Police Investigator, and Actuary Police. The content analysis was used for fixed grid. It is concluded that there is clear correlation between the development of motivational artifacts, whether environmental or individual order, with productivity in the civil police institution. Also noteworthy is that despite the control and evaluation of productivity indexes were predominantly bureaucratic, institutionalized and legitimized, the connection that is established with the manifestation of motivational artifacts is subjective, relational and intangible assets in the institutional rules. It highlights this event in this article, because as discussed above, both the nature of the work, as the environment of the Civil Police, are in complete disagreement with the development of productivity and motivation in the classical sense of the aforementioned areas.

Breast cancer poses a major health risk to Pakistani women causing 40,000 deaths annually in Pakistan (Pink Ribbon 2019). Based on 40 in-depth interviews with women who have been treated for breast cancer from rural Sindh, this study explores the extent to which families, living in rural and less developed areas with poor socio-economic conditions, provide support to the patients. The results show that women as well as their husbands’ level of education and awareness is correlated to delayed access to medical services. Our findings show that husband’s support and empathy has a therapeutic effect on cancer patients. Women’s well-being and self-esteem was strongly associated with how men saw and dealt with their disease. Based on the findings, we recommend introducing awareness raising programmes and a well-integrated social support system to help the patients and particularly men who control women’s lives.

This paper reflects on a four year evaluation on the use of a mobile platform, MobiSAM, to support increased public participation in local government.  It describes the lessons learnt in the design, development and evaluation of the initiative.  MobiSAM uses a community based co-design methodology, emphasizing the importance of community’s voices throughout the design and evaluation of the project.  Attention is drawn to the education and awareness raising interventions undertaken in order to scaffold the deployment of the system.  A discussion of the findings of the project is also provided in order for other actors in the field to learn from MobiSAM’s successes and failures.  Special attention is focused on the political stability and communication capacity required to successfully undertake initiatives such as this.

Work has been emphasized by the WHO, ILO, and UNESCO for years as to how individuals can escape poverty, secure the necessities and improve his/her economic and social status. In this sense, vocational rehabilitation is regarded as the means for persons with disabilities to access work. However, in the absence of either these programs or full respect for their right to work, they have been encountering different barriers in employment accessibility. This happens more seriously in developing countries, including Vietnam. Through mixed methods of desktop reviews, a survey with 110 persons with visual impairment in the community, and in-depth interviews with 10 key stakeholders, the article aims at briefing an overview on current situations of their employment as well as vocational rehabilitation services and support for occupations in Dong Da District, Hanoi City. Several key findings indicate that they have been coping with unemployment or low-tech and low-paid jobs. There is an intensive gap between needs and service supplies in physical, cognitive, and psychosocial components. In the community, available programs target supporting them in terms of physical aspects rather than cognitive and social components. Finally, the authors discuss more various vocational programs, capacity building to other potential providers, and awareness-raising.

At the present time, there is an increasingly demanding social situation in the world of work, as well as its constant search for competent professionals with varied skills. These changes reflect directly on the teaching work, reinforcing the need to understand the Meaning of this profession. Thus, this study aims to identify and analyze the meanings of the work attributed by professors of the Administration area of an IFES (Federal Institution of Higher Education) of Minas Gerais, headquartered in the region of Campo das Vertentes. In order to operationalize this investigation, a qualitative-descriptive case study was carried out, and data were collected through in-depth interviews. The results were analyzed using the content analysis technique. In this analysis, it was verified that the meanings attributed by the teachers to the teaching work are represented by positive and negative dimensions of the work context. On the positive side, one has social prestige, recognition, personal and professional fulfillment and the pleasure in performing the work that he likes. On the other hand, there is the overload of tasks, the need to comply with indicators, the difficulties of teamwork and the excess of responsibilities. However, the work is considered significant by the teachers, constituting as part of the identity of each one of them.
