Nutraceuticals and natural health products globally represent one of the fastest growing sectors of research and development leading to novel products intended for disease risk reduction and human health promotion. The global nutraceutical market is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 8.3% from 2020 to 2027 to reach USD 722.5 billion by 2027. There is a need to respond to this sector by exploring the local resources to target the production of innovative products from plant/marine biofactors with high prospects for commercial ventures. This paper explores the nutraceutical potentials enshrined in biodiversity values in a small island state in view to promote sustainable agricultural development to facilitate available resources for the development of regimen for the management of health and disease and in essence, pharmacotherapy. The reported phytochemical composition and pharmacological activities, of the terrestrial flora and marine organisms with high propensity for development and production of nutraceutical products will be discussed. Bioactive phytochemicals encompassing the immensely diverse groups of phenolic acids, flavonoids, terpenoids, alkaloids, possess therapeutic virtues including anti-diabetic, antihypertensive, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory attributes, all of which are highly relevant to the budding nutraceutical industry.

This study analyses the changes of agriculture sector in Bundelkhand region during 2000-01 to 2015-16 by using secondary data. The Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) and Risk Instability Index (RII) techniques have been used to study the the ternds of agricultural development and risk in agriculture. It is found from the analysis that there are widespread variations in the area, production, productivty of crops in Bundelkhnad region. In spite of this, there is high fluctuations have been witneesed in the average productivty of the crops at regional and state level. Moreover, the agricultiral development of Bundelkhad region has been faced the instability condition due to the continious increase in crop risk. Therefor, the government should be emphasied on development of irrigation facility, agricultural diversification, expenssion of credit facility, investment on agricultural research, use of modern agricultural techinique and climatic resilient technology to achieve sutainable development of Bundelkhnmad region.

Objective: To inspect the extent and nature of diversification in the agricultural sector in the Indian state of Sikkim from the initiation of the Organic Mission (2003) to the attainment of full organic status (2016) by the state. Methods: Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) is computed to understand the pace and pattern of agricultural development and the Simpson Diversity Index (SID) and the Percentage Share of different crops in the Total Cropped Area are calculated to measure the extent of diversification. Findings: The CAGR in terms of both area and production were found to be positive for high-value crops whereas traditional agricultural crops recorded negative growth in the same period. The value of SID at 0.81 implies a high degree of diversification towards high-value agriculture in Sikkim. Keywords: Agriculture; diversification; Sikkim; organic; high-value agriculture

BACKGROUND Introduction: Gaming is a billion-dollar industry growing at a Compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9 %- 14.3% with biggest market in South East Asian countries. Availability of Low-cost smart phones, ease of internet access has made gaming popular among youth who enjoy it as a leisure activity. According to the WHO excessive indulgence in Gaming can lead to Gaming disorder. Medical students indulging in excessive gaming can succumb to gaming disorder which can affect their scholastic performance. Hence this study was done to assess the gaming practices and its effect on scholastic performance. OBJECTIVE Objective: 1. To assess the various Gaming practices and the Prevalence of Gaming addiction among medical students. 2. To study the effect of Gaming practices on Scholastic performance of medical students. METHODS Methods: The present study used a case control design where the 448(N) study participants were recruited using non probability sampling technique.91 (Nc) cases who were Gaming for past 6 months were identified using rapid preliminary survey .91 controls (Nco) who never played games were selected and matched for age and sex. Internal Assessment scores (%) of cases and controls were compared. Snedecor F test and Student t test were used to find out the association between the hours of gaming and internal assessment scores (%) and difference of Internal assessment scores between cases and controls respectively. Odds ratio was calculated to identify the risk of Poor scholastic performance. Prevalence of Gaming addiction was assessed using Lemmen’s Gaming addiction scale (GAS). RESULTS Results: Frequency of gaming (hrs) was not associated with the Mean internal assessment scores (p>0.05). Male students (cases) showed significant reduction in both their internal assessment scores (p<0.001,<0.01) whereas no reduction was observed in Female cases. A negative correlation was observed between GAS and internal assessment scores (r=-0.02). Prevalence of Gaming addiction using GAS was found to be 6.2% among the study population(N=448) and 31% among Cases (Nc=91).The risk of low scores was (OR =1.80-1.89) times more in cases than controls. CONCLUSIONS Conclusions: Excessive Gaming adversely affects scholastic performance in males than females.Awareness about Gaming addiction needs to be created among students, parents and teachers. Institutionalized De-addiction services should be made available to medical students. CLINICALTRIAL No

Tulsi (Ocimum sanctum L.) is a sacred plant of medicinal and spiritual significance in many cultures. Medicinal properties of Tulsi are ascribed to its phytochemicals with antioxidant capabilities. The current study was undertaken to screen a large seed population of Tulsi to select germplasm lines with high antioxidant potential and to standardize protocols for micropropagation and biomass production to produce a phytochemically consistent crop. A total of 80 germplasm lines were established under in vitro conditions and screened for their antioxidant potential determined with the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) bioassay. The micropropagation of a selected line, named Vrinda, was established using nodal cultures grown on Murashige and Skoog medium containing benzylaminopurine (1.1 µM), gibberellic acid (0.3 µM), and activated charcoal (0.6%). The antioxidant phytohormones melatonin and serotonin were quantified in the field and greenhouse grown tissues of Vrinda and melatonin levels were found to be consistent in both conditions with higher serotonin levels under field conditions. This integrated approach combining the in vitro selection and propagation offers potential applications in the development of safe, effective, and novel natural health products of Tulsi, and many other medicinal plant species.

Many conventional chemotherapies have indicated side effects due to a lack of treatment specificity and are thus not suitable for long-term usage. Natural health products are well-tolerated and safe for consumption, and some have pharmaceutical uses particularly for their anticancer effects. We have previously reported the anticancer efficacy of dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) root and lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus) extracts. However, their efficacy on prostate cancer and their interactions with standard chemotherapeutics have not been studied to determine if they will be suitable for adjuvant therapies. If successful, these extracts could potentially be used in conjunction with chemotherapeutics to minimize the risk of drug-related toxicity and enhance the efficacy of the treatment. We have demonstrated that both dandelion root extract (DRE) and lemongrass extract (LGE) exhibit selective anticancer activity. Importantly, DRE and LGE addition to the chemotherapeutics taxol and mitoxantrone was determined to enhance the induction of apoptosis when compared to individual chemotherapy treatment alone. Further, DRE and LGE were able to significantly reduce the tumour burden in prostate cancer xenograft models when administered orally, while also being well-tolerated. Thus, the implementation of these well-tolerated extracts in adjuvant therapies could be a selective and efficacious approach to prostate cancer treatment.

Melanoma is the deadliest form of skin cancer in the world with a growing incidence in North America. Contemporary treatments for melanoma include surgical resection, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy. However, apart from resection in early melanoma, the prognosis of patients using these treatments is typically poor. In the past decade, there have been significant advancements in melanoma therapies. Immunotherapies such as ipilimumab and targeted therapies such as vemurafenib have emerged as a promising option for patients as seen in both scientific and clinical research. Furthermore, combination therapies are starting to be administered in the form of polychemotherapy, polyimmunotherapy, and biochemotherapy, of which some have shown promising outcomes in relative efficacy and safety due to their multiple targets. Alongside these treatments, new research has been conducted into the evidence-based use of natural health products (NHPs) and natural compounds (NCs) on melanoma which may provide a long-term and non-toxic form of complementary therapy. Nevertheless, there is a limited consolidation of the research conducted in emerging melanoma treatments which may be useful for researchers and clinicians. Thus, this review attempts to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of current advancements in metastatic melanoma treatment by surveying new research into the molecular and cellular basis of treatments along with their clinical efficacy. In addition, this review aims to elucidate novel strategies that are currently being used and have the potential to be used in the future.

A recent study assessed the investor performance of the Australian drug development biotech (DDB) sector over a 15-year period from 2003 to 2018. The current study builds on that research and extends the analysis to 2020, using a 10-year period starting 2010, to exclude the impact of the global financial crisis in 2008/09. Based on a value-weighted portfolio of all 41 DDB firms, the overall sector delivered a negative annualized return of -4.1%. Individual firm performance was also assessed using the compound annual growth rate (CAGR) in share price over the period as a measure of investor outcomes. On this basis 68% of firms produced negative CAGRs over the period, and of the 32% of firms that produced positive CAGRs, six firms produced CAGRs greater than 20% per annum and in three cases of recently-listed firms, the CAGR’s were greater than 50%. Overall however, the sector overall delivered very poor investor returns and despite a relatively large number of listed biotech firms, Australian biotechnology continues to be small and weak in terms of its contribution to global biotechnology industrialization. As such it lacks the critical mass to grow a robust bioeconomy based on drug development, which remains the standard-bearer of biotechnology industrialization.
