The use of a citation-analysis method for optimization of information-bibliographic service at libraries in academic research institutes is considered in detail. The results of scientometric studies carried out in the Central library of Pushchino research center of the Russian Academy of sciences have been provided. In library science the citation-analysis method is used extremely rare, so the paper on the essence of this method and technology of its use may be used by library scientists.

The article presents the results of a study of the scientific diaspora of the PushchinoResearch Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences (PRC RAS): the geography of the distribution of representatives by country and organization, as well as their scientific success and implementation. Using the example of one of the research institutes of the Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Biochemistry and Physiology of Microorganisms of the Russian Academy of Sciences, it is shown in which directions the representatives of the scientific diaspora of this research institute are developing. As a result of the study, it was found that representatives of the foreign diaspora and their Russian colleagues work in parallel in the same scientific areas. As a result of the study, it turned out that only a little more than a quarter of all emigrating specialists achieved tangible successes in the scientific field, and more than a third altogether stopped doing science. The study is based on the integrated use of scientometric, bibliometric, bibliographic, factographic and sociological methods.

The authors present the study based on the data of the leading information and bibliographic resources, namely Web of Science Core Collection and Scopus. The complex comparative analysis of scientific activities of the scientists of the research institutes of Pushchino Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences was accomplished. Their publication activities and citations are evaluated, and information sources used in bibliometric analysis are compared. The bibliometric study focused on the document information flow by Pushchino scientists as a special component of the information environment. The big volume of collected data on the publication activities of RAS Pushchino Research Center enables to define the most productive and most cited authors; to correlate between publication type and citation; to reveal international contacts of the scientists and researchers; to reveal organization funding basic research; to make foundation for mining patterns in the development of research areas in physicochemical biology most significant for the Center. The case study reveals that the Russian Academy of Sciences Pushchino Research Center holds leading positions and has a promising intellectual potential.

Subject. The article is devoted to the problem of improving the ranking of the leading Russian technical universities by transforming them into multidisciplinary research universities with the limitation of technical faculties (programs) to 40–50% of the admission plan of entrants. Objectives. The study focuses on improving the position of Russian technical universities in international rankings, providing an opportunity for students to change their specialty or shape it, according to the requirements of the employer. Methods. I analyzed the structure of world-class technical universities in terms of differentiation of specialties and methods of improving the rankings. Results. The analysis shows that the leading positions in international rankings belong to multidisciplinary research universities that provide training and conduct integrated research at the intersection of different sciences. Conclusions. There is a need for gradual reforms of Russian research technical universities, in terms of compliance with global trends in multidisciplinarity, differentiation of funding, and research activities. Such reforms can be carried out in the form of mergers and creation of network structures on the basis of agreements on cooperation between technical universities and research institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Interest in the history of book collections is not a recent phenomenon. However, rapid development of computers and the Internet over the past twenty years has provided researchers with new tools for network analysis, such as UCI6 и NetDraw 2.160. Continuing to identify the provenance of the documents kept in the Western European Section of the Scientific Historical Archive of the St. Petersburg Institute of History of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the author had to face the fact that abundance of information and complexity of the links between various sources make it difficult to make out the complete picture. The Western European section of the Scientific Historical Archive of the St. Petersburg Institute of History of the Russian Academy of Sciences is mostly based on the collection of the academician N P. Likhachev (1862—1936). N.P. Likhachev contacted hundreds of antiquarian firms around the world, and thus his collection fits into the complex and interwoven system of the European antiquarian market of the late 19th–early 20th century. To overcome the problem of branching data, the author decided to call on the experience of sociologists and to use computer programs for network analysis that enable to reflect and comprehend the links between objects. The article is to present the process and results of this work, as well as to underscore problems and specificity of the programs in relation to the archival material. The main source is data from the personal provenance archive of the academician N. P. Likhachev, collection of documents on the history of the Western European Section, and artifacts from the Likhachev collection. The second layer of sources is antiquarian catalogs. The program can visualize these two layers of information in different ways by using different colors and lines. Overlaying of the schemes allows completing of missing elements in the chain of provenance. It should be noted that due to the richness of the sources, the network, originally compiled for the collection of N.P. Likhachev, grows into a pan-European system of “collector-antiquarian” relationships. It opens wide perspectives for research.
