Is devoted to the contemporary art. Recently the arts have undergone some changes that allow discussing transformations of (post)modern art forms and therefore transformations of the Modernity Project. The traditional approach to arts implies that particular artefacts are the form of art objectisation. The author analyses several contemporary art experiments and argues that nowadays the actors operating in society have to deal with documentation or medium which provides for calling an act of creation to memory but not for reproducing it.

Surrealism was the twentieth century’s longest lasting art movement in the arts. It explored the mysterious dream world of the unconscious mind. Surrealist works depict a familiar yet alien world of dreamlike serenity and nightmarish fantasy, and their legacy pervades much of contemporary art, literature, film and popular culture. As a representation of irrational aesthetics in the modern art trends, it is worthwhile to study the influence and construction of Surrealism in modern landscape architecture. This paper explores the modern landscape form under the influence of Surrealism Art by analyzing and investigating the intrinsic relationship between Surrealist Art and the modern landscape architecture. Besides that, this paper described the connection between surreal spirit and Chinese landscape architecture design term metaphor of “presence”.

This book is an examination of what psychologists have discovered about how art works—what it does to us, how we experience art, how we react to it emotionally, how we judge it, and what we learn from it. The questions investigate include the following: What makes us call something art? Do we experience “real” emotions from the arts? Do aesthetic judgments have any objective truth value? Does learning to play music raise a child’s IQ? Is modern art something my kid could do? Is achieving greatness in an art form just a matter of hard work? Philosophers have grappled with these questions for centuries, and laypeople have often puzzled about them too and offered their own views. But now psychologists have begun to explore these questions empirically, and have made many fascinating discoveries using the methods of social science (interviews, experimentation, data collection, statistical analysis).

Being-with is an artistically based research project aimed at applying and studying participatory and relational practices within the arts as well as addressing the esthetical and ethical questions that such practices generate. The participants in Being-with – researchers and artists as well as children, parents, grandparents, siblings and other residents in the small town of Høvåg in Norway – gathered weekly for half a year to experience how aesthetic production may interact with social space and vice versa. The article reflects on what consequences such interaction may have for the conception of art, and its arenas and agendas … when we consider art not only as a reflection of our lives, but also as an agent shaping our lives and changing the social surroundings we are part of. The article relates discourses of aesthetics penned by continental philosophers over the last 50 years to a specific setting in a Nordic contemporary art practice.

RESUMEN Hay que pensar la decolonialidad en relación a las artes. En esta entrevista exploramos cómo las artes decoloniales se diferencian de la estética moderna/colonial. La decolonización de la estética conlleva la liberación de a la aiesthesis, es decir de las formas de relacionarnos con el mundo y de hacer mundo a través de los sentidos. La aiesthesis decolonial se distingue de los principios del arte contemporáneo y en particular de su sujeción a la temporalidad moderna, abriéndonos hacia las temporalidades relacionales. This interview explores the difference between the modern/colonial aesthetic and the decolonial arts. The aesthetic decolonization leads to the release of the aesthesis, ergo it relates in every way to the connection and creation of a world through the senses. The decolonial aesthesis is particularly different from the contemporary art principles in the way it grasps the modern temporality consenting the creation of a path toward relational temporalities. The decolonial artists exercise a different temporality that results in not only a radical criticism to the modern representation and visuality but it makes possible to understand the decolonialization as a hopeful movement, full of possibilities for naming and experiencing neglected intercultural worlds. KEYWORDS Decolonialization, relational time, hope, body, interculturality ESTEHÉSIE DÉCOLONIALE ET LE TEMPS RELATIONNELS. ENTRETIEN À ROLANDO VASQUEZ RÉSUMÉ Il faut penser la décolonisation en relation aux arts. Dans cet entretien on explore comment les arts décoloniaux sont différents de l’esthétique moderne-coloniale. La décolonisation de l’esthétique entraîne la libération de l’estehésie, c’est-à-dire, la libération des façons de nous mettre en relation avec le monde et d’en créer un nouveau à travers les sens. L’estehésie décoloniale se différence des principes de l’art contemporain, principalement pour son fixation à la modernité en nous emmenant vers les temporalités relationnelles. In this our modern times, many people, although not in every geography, had to live with wars and conflicts. Peace has always been the object of purchase, even if art cannot afford to prevent the war. Violence and war have become commonplace for everyone, especially for children. Exile, immigration, refugee, human trafficking issues, which have become a problem of the world as a result of war and violence, await solutions. Institutions, states and global organisations are trying to take big economic and social measures towards these problems; however the unresolved problems of the endless wars, the issues of war continue to be the main item of the agenda. For instance, the arts of Otto Dix, Kathe Kollwitz or our current days artists Tammam Azzam and Banksy. This study emphasises the belief that the art has a unifying, healing power, and therefore Art for Peace will continue to be made. Keywords: Contemporary art, peace, war, art.

This essay collects the first results of a reflection launched in the context of the Conference "The Arts of the 1900s and Carmelo Bene" curated by Edoardo Fadini and based in Turin, at the Gallery of Modern Art, between 24 and 26 October 2002. The intent is to focus on how in the first phase of the interdisciplinary practice of Carmelo Bene, between the Sixties and the Seventies, an aesthetic reflection and a deconstructive attitude emerge that involve questions (such as the subject, subjectivity and singular / plural dimension of art) that were being defined in the philosophical field and in the extended field of art during the second half of the twentieth century.

"Reflections on the concept of objective art in the context of contemporary art. Objective art communicates about the human being and his/her place in the universe, about the cosmic laws and the role they play in human life and provide clues as to how man can relate to them. From literary sources attesting to the idea that art in its origin had the role of transmitting knowledge to future generations, we deduce that in ancient times all art forms could be read like a book, and those who knew how to read, fully understood the meaning of the knowledge that was incorporated in these art forms. Nevertheless, there are two forms of art, one very different from the other: objective art and subjective art. Everything that we call art today is subjective art. Objective art is the authentic work resulted from the deliberate, premeditated efforts of a conscious artist. In the act of his creation, the artist avoids or eliminates any subjective or arbitrary element and the impression that such a work evokes in others is always defined. Contemporary art museums are significant actors in the entertainment industry, which is recreated by new forms of leisure time activities every day. Entertainment that is used as an important and effective marketing tool in contemporary art museums is also a significant formative of the new relationship between contemporary art museums and their visitors. Therefore, the aim of this chapter is to explore the relationship between art, entertainment, leisure, and museum marketing with a literature review in order to find answers to questions like, What is the relationship between art and entertainment? and Which marketing techniques are used by contemporary art organizations? In this context, the relationship between leisure, entertainment, and contemporary art museums is explained; afterwards, contemporary art museums' marketing strategies are described in detail as the main scope of the study. Finally, as a case study, Istanbul Modern Art Museum's political-economical environment and marketing strategies are analyzed.


In this chapter the changing role of art and interpretations of art in contemporary societies are discussed. Visual art works are always open to a great diversity of possible interpretations, impressions and opinions. There are also vastly differing opinions and ideas about what art is or should be. What characterizes contemporary art is the idea that it is one of the areas freedom that allow and encourage rule-breaking and visions. In short, it is the refuge of imagination in a society that otherwise is built on modern science, logic and reflexivity. For some that freedom and imagination is too much: modern art may include elements of carnival madness, sophomoric humour, cheap publicity-seeking or hoax – in addition to great art providing deep experiences and/or thoughts to people who cherish the opportunity to feed their souls with art. Viewing art can be a deeply intimate individual process or a social statement, sometimes both of these. However, this book also offers consolation to all art lovers: art itself is globally in no danger of disappearing as a result of any political or commercial pressure.
