The study aimed to investigate the level of inclusion of digital literacy skills in the mathematics book for the first intermediate grade in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and to achieve the objectives of the study, the descriptive analytical approach (the method of content analysis) was used, and the tool used in the analysis was a content analysis card consisting of (12) indicators. They are divided into three main axes (information literacy skills, media literacy skills, technology and communication culture skills). As for the research community and its sample, it consisted of a mathematics book for the first intermediate grade for the first and second semesters of 1442 AH, and the study concluded that the level of inclusion of mathematics books for the first grade is intermediate for cultural skills As a whole, digital skills came at a low rate (20.1%), as the skill in the mathematics book for the first semester was (24.5%), while the percentage of availability in the mathematics book for the second semester was (15.69%). Recommendations that curriculum designers should pay attention to embedding digital literacy skills in mathematics books for general education stages so that they contribute to providing learners with digital literacy skills, spreading awareness of the media and digital literacy skills in the educational field for students, mathematics teachers and parents, in addition to preparing training programs that help mathematics teachers to include digital literacy skills during lesson planning.

Digital literacy skills are important, for university students, who are qualified human resources of countries, to have the digital literacy skills to meet the needs of the current age. However, in university libraries where digital technology is used extensively, it is thought that users who do not have or have low digital lit-eracy skills will not benefit from these libraries in the maximum level possible. It is therefore recognized that the determination of the digital literacy levels of the users, to whom services are provided, is important in diversifying the services and training provided to the users. This study is conducted in order to determine the current awareness and skills of students in relation to digital literacy studying in the first grade of departments of Psychology, History, Turkish Language and Literature (TLL), and Contemporary Turkish Dialects and Literatures (CTDL) at Bartın University. Using quantitative research method, the data used in this study was obtained by using survey technique. Within the framework of the responses of 226 participants to the survey questions, the study investigated whether there were any differences between students' digital literacy skills and awareness on the basis of departments and technology usage habits. The study shows that students' skills and awareness about digital literacy vary according to the departments they study in and their technology usage habits. It is observed that the Psychology de-partment received the highest average for the information technology usage habits among the participants.

AbstractA mathematics textbook can be described as an officially authorized and pedagogically designed mathematics book written to provide mathematical knowledge to students. This description suggests the authority of the textbook - because it has been authorized by an administrative source and because it deals with authorized knowledge. This paper provides an overview of research on mathematics textbooks. The emphasis is on questions concerning the extent to which and how textbooks are used in mathematics education in Croatia and in the world.Research results show that mathematics textbooks are widely used in mathematics education worldwide. This finding points to the need for research on the content and structure of textbooks. Such studies are combined with the associated results on how textbooks are used in the classroom and which methods teachers apply in using textbooks in mathematics education. The results of the empirical studies show that teachers use textbooks for lesson preparation and pupils use mathematics textbooks for exercises to a great extent. These results imply that such an important role of textbooks in mathematics education deserves additional attention, with the goal of understanding and improving mathematics education.

AbstractDigital technologies fundamentally transform teaching and learning in higher education environments, with the pace of technological change exacerbating the challenge. Due to the current pandemic situation, higher education environments are all now forced to move away from traditional teaching and learning structures that are simply no longer adaptable to the challenges of rapidly changing educational environments. This research develops a conceptual model and employs Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) using Partial least Squares (PLS) to examine the impact of information and digital literacy on 249 Finnish university staff and students’ intention to use digital technologies. The findings show the complex interrelationship between literacy skills and digital technologies among university staff and students. The results illustrate that information literacy has a direct and significant impact on intention to use; while, unlike our expectation, digital literacy does not have a direct impact on the intention to use. However, its effect is mediated through performance expectancy and effort expectancy. The authors suggest that to understand the changes that are taking place in higher education environment, more attention needs to be paid to redefining policies and strategies in order to enhance individuals’ willingness to use digital technologies within higher education environments.

PurposeThis paper aims to review current literature pertaining to information literacy and digital literacy skills and practices within the research workflow for doctoral students and makes recommendations for how libraries (and others) can foster skill-sets for graduate student research workflows for the twenty-first century scholarly researcher.Design/methodology/approachA review of existing information literacy practices for doctoral students was conducted, and four key areas of knowledge were identified and discussed.FindingsThe findings validate the need for graduate students to have training in information literacy, information management, knowledge management and scholarly communication. It recommends empirical studies to be conducted to inform future practices for doctoral students.Practical implicationsThis paper offers four areas of training to be considered by librarians and faculty advisers to better prepare scholars for their future.Originality/valueThis paper presents a distinctive synthesis of the types of information literacy and digital literacy skills needed by graduate students.
