THE USE OF DIARY WRITING TO IMPROVE STUDENTS RECOUNT TEXT

The research was aimed to investigate the use of diary writing to overcome students’ problem in writing recount texts. The problems include writing a recount text in chronological order, writing correct verb changes and developing ideas. Classroom action research was conducted by applying diary as the technique to help students overcome their problem. There were two cycles conducted in this research. The data were taken from the students’ individual score, observation checklist, and field notes. The result showed that teaching writing through diary writing improved students’ writing recount text. Referring to the research findings, the data showed that diary writing improved students’ recount text, as seen in their score. These in terms of score, students’ improved from 71.96 to 76.03 and improving the motivation to the students which makes them eager to write also makes the teaching learning process better. In conclusions, students’ writing recount text of the tenth grade students of class IPS 1 of SMAN 4 Sungai Raya in academic year 2018/2019 improved by using diary.

The aim of this study is to find whether Think – Talk – Write Strategy works effectively on improving the tenth grade students’ achievement in writing recount texts and to know the students’ responses after being taught by using Think – Talk – Write Strategy . in order to  achieve the objectives of study, a classroom action research was designed and carried out in this study. The subjects of this study were 32 students of class X- MIA2  OF SMA Santo Yoseph Medan in academic year 2018/2019. Test, observation sheet, and field notes were used as a instruments for collecting data. The results of the study showed significant improvement of the students’ skill in writing. It is proved by the students’ mean score of each test: pre-test was 57,5%, formative test was 67,22% and post-test  was 83,88% . In addition, the, the analysis result of the observation sheet and field notes showed Think – Talk – Write Strategy channge the students’ learning behavior being better than before. They were more enthusiastic during the teaching learning process in each cycle. The analysis result of questionnaire showed that Think – Talk – Write Strategy was useful to most of students to improve their learnig interest in writing recount text. Based on the results of those study instruments, it can be concluded that Think – Talk – Write Strategy as learning strategy gives the improvement to students’ skill in writing recount text. It is recommended for English teacher to apply Think – Talk – Write Strategy in teaching writing skill in order to improve students’ skill in writing expecially recount text.

This research was conducted based on the problems found from observation in the teaching and learning process. This research aimed to investigate how the use of storytelling technique through webtoon improved students' confidence in speaking to class X IPS 3 students of SMA Negeri 5 Pontianak Utara in academic year 2018/2019. The method implemented in this research was Classroom Action Research with two cycles. The subjects of the research were 32 students of class X IPS 3. In collecting the data, the writer used observation checklist table, field notes, and questionnaires. The result showed that students’ confidence in speaking improved by using storytelling technique through webtoon. Most of them are active in speaking English in the classroom. In conclusion, storytelling technique through webtoon was useful to help students to improve their confidence in speaking English. Thus, the writer recommends the teacher to use storytelling technique in teaching learning speaking to the student.This research was conducted based on the problems found from observation in the teaching and learning process. <p>This study is conducted to find out and to describe to what extent the use of Jigsaw Technique improves the students’ reading comprehension, and to describe the classroom situation when Jigsaw Technique is implemented in reading class. The population of this study is the students of grade VIII in a state junior high school in Boyolali in the academic year 2017/2018 consists of 21 students. The data were collected by observation, interview, and test. The research findings showed that the teacher dominated the teaching-learning process, while the students were not active to give responses but passive to ask questions. The  brief explanation of this study can be presented as follows. The first students reading ability could be improved through the use of Jigsaw technique, before the research was done, the average score of the students’ reading ability was only 59.6, but after the research one for cycle 1, it improved to 65. In cycle 2, it increased up to 71.5. Next, there were also improvements of class situation in teaching learning process and it helps to improve students’ reading ability and more engaged in learning process.</p>

This research aims to find out the impact of video dubbing on improving students’ speaking pronunciation. This research was applied for the tenth grade and eleventh grade of Vocational High School in Madiun city, province of East Java, Indonesia. The subject of the research consisted of 20 students, 14 female students and 6 male students. In collecting the data, researcher used observation to observe the implementation of video dubbing during teaching learning process and used test to find the improvement of students’ speaking pronunciation during the implementation of video dubbing. The research was conducted in two cycles, where each cycle consisted of 4 meetings. The research findings showed that the implementation of video dubbing could improve students’ speaking pronunciation. It can be concluded that the implementation of video dubbing in learning process has beneficial effect on students’ speaking skill, especially in pronunciation.

The aim of this research was to know the increase of students’ vocabulary mastery by using board race game for fifth grade students of Uttayan Suksa Krabi School, Thailand in the academic year 2018/2019. The method used in this research was collaborative classroom action research. The researchers conducted this research from December 2018 until March 2019 in Uttayan Suksa Krabi School, Thailand. In collecting the data, the researchers used observation, test, and documentation. The tests were given in pre-test, post-test 1 and post- test 2. The researchers analyzed the average score of each test to find out the increase of students’ vocabulary mastery after the action was conducted. After the researchers have conducted the action, the students’ vocabulary mastery has increased optimally. It could be seen from the score of pre-test that showed 55.3, post-test 1 was 68.6, and post-test 2 was 85.6. After applying the action, the researchers were able to solve the problem in increasing students’ vocabulary mastery. The students were able to pronounce, memorize and understand the words based on the context. By using Board Race game in teaching vocabulary, the students could easily understand and memorize the spelling of the new vocabulary. In the teaching process, when the researcher as teacher used game, the students were enthusiastic and enjoyed during teaching learning process. It can be concluded that board race game can increase students’ vocabulary mastery. It is suggested to use board race game as the alternative media in teaching learning English.

The lack of motivation and result of teaching-learning process obtained by the students are the problems faced by technical study programs, including the one at the Faculty of Engineering of Universitas Negeri Padang. This paper discusses the actions done through classroom action research as the attempt to raise the students’ motivation and the result of teaching learning process. The object of the research was the students of D3 regular program of electrical engineering in the academic year of 2005/2006. The result of the research shows that a set of actions, namely: (i) attracting the students to discuss the nature of Technical English subject; (ii) improving and correcting the students’ attitude and perception towards Technical English subject; (iii) applying teaching method and techniques based on natural-constructivism approach; (iv) varying techniques and materials of teaching; (v) using modern equipments, materials, instruments, and facilities effectively, could raise the students’ motivation and their result of teaching-learning process of Technical English subject.

<p><em>This research was classroom action research. Classroom action research was a research that was conducted by a teacher in order to find out solutions of any problems found during teaching and learning process. In this research, it was done to explain whether by using an outline technique could improve the students’ writing paragraph and also to investigate some factors that influenced the students in writing descriptive paragraph. This research was done at grade VIII B of SMP Negeri 6 Sungai Penuh in academic year 2017/2018. From the result of the test in this research, the result was increased in cycle and two. In cycle one, the mean score was 58.25% and it increased to 76.87%, it increased 18.63% point. It meant that teaching writing through outline improved the students’ writing skill. The improvements were also improved on the result of each sub-indicators of writing test between cycle 1 and 2. </em></p>

Based on the phenomena that students have difficulties in writing descriptive text, the students could not write because do not have any ideas when they are asked to write. So, they need some ways which could help them in writing. The problems in writing can be solved by implementing some strategies in teaching writing. One of approach that teacher can use to help students write a good text is MAM. The main objective of this study is find out if MAM can improve students’ ability in writing descriptive text. The research method used is quantitative research, specifically quantitative with one group pretest-posttest design. The sample take two class at tenth grade students of SMK Jabir Al-Hayyan in academic year 2019/2020. The data had been obtained in post-test of experimental class were: the highest score was 96, the lowest score was 62, and the mean score was 80.50. Post-test of control class were: the highest score was 89, the lower score was 60, and the mean score was 71.54. It can be seen from the data showed that students’ score in experimental class was highest than control class. It means that using make a match method was effective, easier, and more understable to be applied in teaching and learning process, especially in writing descriptive text. Keywords:  Improve, Make A Match Method, Writing Descriptive Text

The research was pointed to progress the students’ speaking abilities of the tenth of  SMA Negeri 1 Pejagoan by actualizing the role-play technique. It was carried out based on the strategy that had been arranged some time recently. The observation was action research. It was conducted in three cycles with one assembly in the to begin with cycle and 2 gatherings in the moment and third cycle. The subjects of this inquire about were 32 students of lesson tenth grade at SMA Negeri 1 Pejagoan. The subjective information were collected by watching the educating and learning handle, and meeting the students, the instructor and the collaborators. The information were in the shape of field notes, meet transcripts, and photos. In the interim, the quantitative information were collected through evaluating the students’ speaking execution by comparing the implies of the pretest and post test. The information were the students’ speaking ability. The strategy of the inquire about comprised of surveillance, arranging, acting, and reflecting. The comes about of this inquire about appeared that the utilize of Part Playing procedure was effective to move forward the students’ talking capacity. Based on the subjective information, the utilize of classroom English made a difference the understudies to be more recognizable with English. The ability to speak in English is one of the requisite skills for vocational high school students majoring in hospitality training. However, most tenth-grade students manifested insufficient skills in speaking English, which resulted in low confidence in speaking. To cope with the challenge, the researchers implemented modified role-play and guided writing to stimulate students in speaking English in classroom action research. The procedure of the research consisted of planning, acting, observing and reflecting. The researchers employed observation, questionnaire, documentation and field notes in collecting the data. The research findings presented that the students’ motivation to practice their speaking had increased significantly. Thus, the researchers conclude that role-play and guided writing can be used as a communicative activity where students can simultaneously practise and improve their proficiency in communicating. The researchers also propose suggestion to fellow English teachers to effectively manage the time as well as engaging media to create an enjoyable atmosphere in the teaching-learning process through role-play and guided writing.
