Abstract:The aim of this article is threefold: to interrogate the crises that have afflicted public universities in Kenya over a period of thirty years, starting in the 1970s and intensifying in the 1980s and 1990s; to examine the impact of student activism and protest on education policy; and to investigate the role of current and former university students in national leadership and the democratization process in Kenya. University students are destined to be the intelligentsia who one day will take over the reigns of power. Students also constitute the largest reservoir of technocrats in Kenya's development milieu, providing highly trained manpower in many sectors. To many they are also the vehicles of ideological dissemination and are often regarded as the representatives of the left and sympathetic to the cause of the common man. As such, to engage the students is to engage the common man. Yet there are lacunae in the research and academic knowledge in this area. Commentators have largely ignored student protest in Kenya despite the fact that universities have a long history of student activism in which students often have engaged authorities in running battles, some of them violent. In the national political arena, university students often rally behind radical politicians and former university students. The political course in Kenya would not be the same today without university students. This article seeks to interrogate their multiple roles.

When we hear about science, a certain fear of formulae, complex reactions and theories comes to our mind. But have we ever thought of science as a concept beyond the textbooks? If we can understand how things work, why certain things happen the way we see them or what causes certain phenomena, science will no longer be limited to textbooks. The best way of familiarizing society to science is to first simplify it to an extent where the common man understands it not as magic but as a happening with proper reasoning. As per my opinion, science is the way of thinking how and why things happen around us. The reason gives the science behind it. Science has the power of existence. Science is not a subject to learn; it is the power of thinking. In a world where technology surpasses everything, science has still managed to find utmost importance in everyday life. Without science, technology wouldn't flourish and without technology, science would not have got the respect it deserves. I don’t know why, but we have divided science into different branches, for example physics, chemistry, mathematics and biology etc. Now they have become major subjects and have been divided into smaller branches. I think, these different branches or subjects are nothing but the various ways of thinking over the same problem. Science is all about understanding. All branches of science have made tremendous progress in giving directions to thoughts and ideas. This has ultimately led mankind to make advancements in all areas related to science. Whenever there is a new discovery or invention, it proves that we are taking science a step ahead, making it more accessible to the common man and in the course providing solutions to even the smallest of problems. If you don’t understand science, you will continuously feel that magics are happening in nature. There is nothing magical in the world of science, only our sense of power has some limits and that is why we are unable to experience or sense the waves and tiny matters. There are lots of phenomena happening in nature continuously with a reason. If we want to understand the reason behind it then we will definitely have to convert that reason into technology. Science is truly a fascinating world, where we see the tiniest inventions becoming the biggest comfort or the biggest discoveries helping mankind to leap forward without any hurdles. It is only due to the understanding of science, more importantly rocket science, that the sky is now no longer a limit. Man has also been able to give a reasonable scientific explanation to most of the so-called magical phenomena of nature. It is only because of science which is the backbone of technology, that man is able to achieve the comfort of happy living, by decoding problems while treading on the path of innovative thinking. So, every student has to learn conceptual basic science. You can understand science once you start thinking in a proper way. Every student needs to generate the habit of thinking on any problem. This will slowly decrease the fear about science. Lastly, to conclude I want to say that Science is the sixth sense for human beings so try to use it to experience the lovely and fascinating world.

This essay situates Wilhelm Schröder’s 1686 Princely Treasury and Exchequer (Fürstliche Schatz- und Rent-Cammer) within the context of manufacturing projects in London and Vienna and debates over happiness they engaged. Conceptualizations of happiness have been seen as chief differences between Germanophone and Anglophone political economy. This comparison shows that Schröder was deeply engaged with English economic thought, particularly in the milieu of his fellow members of the Royal Society. In many respects, he shared their attitudes. However, due to the way he situated happiness as shared between the prince and the common man, Schröder came to differ on the issue of labor-saving technology and its use in manufacturing workhouses. Despite championing absolutism, Schröder related studies of natural science, technology, and society in more integrated and less hierarchical ways than was usual for the Royal Society.

After Independence, Goods and Service Tax (GST) would be a very significant and giant indirect tax structure reforms in the country. It is designed to support and enhance the economic growth of the country. It is a comprehensive tax that will integrate all indirect taxes of states and central governments and the unified economy into a seamless national market. Because of its transparent and self-policing character, it would be easier to administer. According to me, it is expected to iron out wrinkles of the existing indirect tax system and play a vital role in a country’s growth. By amalgamating a large number of Central and State indirect taxes, it would mitigate cascading effect or double taxation in a major way and pave the way for a common national market. So, from a common man or consumer point of view, the biggest advantage would be in terms of reduction in the overall tax burden on goods, which was estimated to be around 25%-30% before the implementation of GST. This paper highlights the concept of GST and its impact on the common man.

Job (Ayyūb) is a byword for patience in the Islamic tradition, notwithstanding only six Qur'anic verses are devoted to him, four in Ṣād (vv.41-4), and two in al-Anbiyā' (vv.83-4), and he is mentioned on only two other occasions, in al-Ancām (v.84) and al-Nisā' (v.163). In relation to the space devoted to him, he could be accounted a ‘lesser’ prophet, nevertheless his significance in the Qur'an is unambiguous. The impact he makes is achieved in a number of ways. One is through the elaborate intertext transmitted from the Companions and Followers, and recorded in the exegetic tradition. Another is the way in which his role and charisma are highlighted by the prophets in whose company he is presented, and the shifting emphases of each of the sūras in which he appears. Yet another is the wider context created by these sūras in which key words and phrases actualize a complex network of echoes and resonances that elicit internal and transsūra associations focusing attention on him from various perspectives. The effectiveness of this presentation of him derives from the linguistic genius of the Qur'an which by this means triggers a vivid encounter with aspects of the rhythm of divine revelation no less direct than that of visual iconography in the Western Tradition.

Judaism is often understood as the way of life defined by the Torah of Moses, but it was not always so. This book identifies key moments in the rise of the Torah, beginning with the formation of Deuteronomy, advancing through the reform of Ezra, the impact of the suppression of the Torah by Antiochus Epiphanes and the consequent Maccabean revolt, and the rise of Jewish sectarianism. It also discusses variant forms of Judaism, some of which are not Torah-centered and others which construe the Torah through the lenses of Hellenistic culture or through higher, apocalyptic, revelation. It concludes with the critique of the Torah in the writings of Paul.
