Because of the commonness and extensive usage of online technology these days, mobile commerce is an emerging area of attraction for marketing research. Although there is a dearth of studies exploring the factors that influence on mobile commerce embracement and adoption through mobile applications in general, particularly the effect of mobile commerce adoption attitude using Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) remains uncharted. The exploration of the technology acceptance factors is quite challenging and demanding primarily due to the reason that online population is widely dispersed and diversified in terms of their dynamics. Still this area remains a venture of curiosity to the marketers due to magnetism in its potential. Current research assist marketers by providing an insight into the factors that explains this scenario and the results could be used to capitalize the fast growing online market. Three hypothesis strongly validated the effect of perceived trust, perceived value and social influence on mobile commerce adoption while perceived self-efficacy was found to have a little effect on mobile commerce adoption. Predominantly, it was found that Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) remains most effective predictor to mobile commerce adoption. Current research could be used to comprehend and take advantage of key psychological attributes mentioned in the study to upsurge the volume of existing mobile commerce market.

Given the prevalence of online technology nowadays, mobile commerce continues to attract considerable attention for marketing research. However, studies on the factors that impact mobile commerce adoption via mobile applications are still limited. Moreover, there is minimal study that investigates the importance of attitudes towards mobile commerce as antecedents of mobile commerce adoption using Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), especially in the Malaysian market. These factors are crucial since the population of online users are massive and their influence is forming the untapped potential for marketers. By knowing the factors that drive the use of mobile commerce, this study seeks to facilitate marketers on how to use the findings and intensify the growth of online business in Malaysia. This quantitative study is cross-sectional in nature with 160 samples. Results showed that out of six hypotheses, five hypotheses were supported. The findings shed lights on the relevance of TAM in reasoning the adoption of mobile commerce via mobile applications. Also, this study provides insightful implications for marketers to understand consumer behaviour and strengthen the mobile commerce market.

The paper comprehensively reviews research conducted on mobile commerce adoption in organizations. From the literature, factors adopted form a number of adoption theories such as the diffusion of innovation theory, the technology acceptance model, etc. are identified, analyzed and tabulated together with a set of research propositions in order to demonstrate areas in need of further research. The paper proposes 15 adoption factors that may affect the intention to adopt mobile commerce in organizations. These factors are categorized into three groups, namely environmental and organizational, technological, and managerial and other factors. We conclude our argument by presenting a proposed adoption model and showing potential areas of interest to future researchers.

Purpose – This paper aims to propose a framework that integrated the technology acceptance model (TAM), theory of planned behaviour (TPB) and technology-organization-environment (TOE) and extended the constructs to enrich literature and capture some peculiarities of small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs). Individually, the frameworks of extant TAM, TPB and TOE are insightful to the understanding of e-commerce adoption but a bit parochial in their constructs and so, can rarely provide clear lenses to deal with SMEs. Design/methodology/approach – The adoption of e-commerce depends largely on the users’ conscious assessment of the influencing constructs as proposed, among others, in theories of reasoned action, TAM, TPB and TOE. This paper reviewed, synthesized and extended the constructs of these models in an integrated framework. The proposed integrated framework led to 18 propositions to promote and facilitate future research, and to guide explanation and prediction of e-commerce adoption in an organized system. Findings – The introduced constructs in the integrated framework (e.g. company mission, individual difference factors, perceived trust and perceived service quality) introduce socio-technical systems and improve the theoretical base of adoption. Research limitations/implications – Neither the adoption drivers nor the constructs in the theoretical framework are mutually exclusive and exhaustive; rather, they are complementary and could incorporate other factors. Although the theoretical implications of the findings of this paper extend the scope of adoption drivers, the proposed framework needs to be tested empirically. Originality/value – The integrated and extended theoretical framework links three adoption drivers and attempts to improve existing knowledge on e-commerce adoption and to provide bases for more informed decision(s).

This research suggests a model to explain mobile purchase intention via smartphones based on the technology acceptance model to which specific variables to the m-commerce context were added: perceived risk, innovativeness, ubiquity, and trust in mobile internet. To that aim, a quantitative study was conducted with 400 French mobile users (200 buyers and 200 non-buyers) and was based on a purchase simulation of a train ticket on a mobile site up to the point of payment. The results show that the usefulness (explained by the innovativeness, the ubiquity and trust toward mobile Internet) and the perceived risk (explained by the innovativeness) have an impact on the intention to use unlike the perceived ease of use.
