The non-black earth zone of Russia is a zone of guaranteed harvest of major agricultural crops. However, at present, the potential of the reclaimed lands of the Non-Black Earth Region remains largely unrealized. In world agricultural practice, land reclamation combined with the use of modern technical means is an important factor in the development of agriculture, a condition for a consistently high level of agricultural production. Therefore, in all countries, reclaimed lands are given a special status, and the necessary amount of reclamation fund of agricultural lands is created.

The article presents the genetic characteristic of the Chukchi reindeer breed. The object of the study was of the Chukchi reindeer. In recent years, the number of reindeer of the Chukchi breed has declined sharply. Reduced reindeer numbers could lead to biodiversity loss. The Chukchi breed of deer has good meat qualities, has high germination viability and is adapted in adverse tundra conditions of Yakutia. Herding of the Chukchi breed of deer in Yakutia are engaged only in the Nizhnekolymsky district. There are four generic communities and the largest of which is the agricultural production cooperative of nomadic tribal community «Turvaurgin», which was chosen to assess the genetic processes of breed using microsatellite markers: Rt6, BMS1788, Rt 30, Rt1, Rt9, FCB193, Rt7, BMS745, C 143, Rt24, OheQ, C217, C32, NVHRT16, T40, C276. It was found that microsatellite markers have a wide range of alleles and generally have a high informative value for identifying of genetic differences between animals and groups of animal. The number of identified alleles is one of the indicators of the genetic diversity of the population. The total number of detected alleles was 127. The Chukchi breed of deer is characterized by a high level of heterozygosity, and the random crossing system prevails over inbreeding in the population. On average, there were 7.9 alleles (Na) per locus, and the mean number of effective alleles (Ne) was 4.1. The index of fixation averaged 0.001. The polymorphism index (PIC) ranged from 0.217 to 0.946, with an average of 0.695.

The paper discusses Varro’s texts about agriculture included in the Byzantine encyclopedia on agriculture by the redactor. The paper gives a historical overview of the use of Varro’s texts from the end of the first century BC to the middle of the tenth century. The texts refer to the following topics: when and in what month should certain agricultural crops be grown, how can the land be cultivated, instructions for the production of grapes, wine, olives and artichokes, feathered fowls and cattle breeding and other animals. Based on centuries of using Varro’s texts on agriculture, there is an impression that these texts had great importance for the development of agricultural production not only in Rome but also the Byzantine Empire.

Relevance. The effective use of agricultural land is a fundamental prerequisite for the successful implementation in the agro-industrial complex of the task of providing the population with food, and production with raw materials. At the same time, the issues of methodological support of the procedures for determining the integral indicator for assessing the use of agricultural land, established on the basis of a theoretically grounded unified approach based on quantitative methods, have been developed with insufficient completeness. Actualization of the issues of improving the theory and practice of assessing the effectiveness of the use of agricultural land in agricultural production is becoming one of the priority tasks of land reclamation science. The purpose of this work is to create a methodological basis for the process of assessing the use of agricultural land, which guarantees the comparability of the considered options for agroproduction in different natural and economic conditions.Methods. The research is based on the method of point assessments for indicators of agricultural land exploitation and the formation on their basis an integral criterion of land use efficiency. The proposed procedure includes: analysis of statistical data characterizing the dynamics of the values of indicators of used land resources, calculation of local assessments of the feasibility of their exploitation and assessment of the efficiency of land use according to a generalizing criterion represented by the sum of these local assessments.Results. A methodology has been developed and a method has been created for determining the efficiency of the use of agricultural land, based on a generalized integral assessment of the operation of agricultural land, which allows to identify bottlenecks in agricultural production and outline rational directions for the development of land use. The testing of the algorithm of the methodology and capabilities of the scale for the integral assessment of the efficiency of the use of land resources was carried out on the example of the Non-Black Earth Zone of the Russian Federation. Shown is an unsatisfactory (below the national average) contribution of agricultural production to the gross regional product. On the whole, positive dynamics of agricultural production in the Non-Black Earth Zone was established, which is achieved due to the development of animal husbandry, which is an effective factor in the formation of modern efficient agriculture of the territory, with the orientation of the crop production system on the raw material basis of feed production or the sector of the economy of the agro-industrial complex of the territory.

Turmeric Cultivation is one of livelihood for the Kondh tribes of Kandhamal District of Odisha. These farmers were cultivating this crop with their traditional knowledge of crop practices without any intervention of chemical inputs. From the studies, it is found that farmers of the district were economically and educationally backward. Turmeric of Kandhamal is well known for its healing property, color, aroma etc. and received GI tag for its unique features. From the secondary data it was found that there were few public and private extension actors trying to promote organic recommended package of practices for Turmeric.  And, to boost willingness among farmers towards recommended organic Turmeric various socio-economic variables might be responsible. In this view the present study was carried out (2020-21) in Kandhamal district of Odisha to understand attitude towards recommended organic Turmeric and socio-economic variables effecting willingness to adopt organic package of practices of Turmeric. It was found that turmeric growers had medium to high level of willingness to adopt the recommended agricultural practice. And among selected socio-economic variables respondent’s total family member, Members help in family farming and adult male had negative and significantly relationship with willingness to adopt the recommended agricultural practices of organic turmeric. Private extension actors and State Horticulture Department training were continually motivating them to adopt recommended agricultural practices of organic turmeric.

Beekeeping is a very interesting activity having a positive impact on agricultural production and rural incomes. This study conducted in both municipalities of Djidja and Zogbodomey, in southern Benin, aimed at analyzing the determinants and constraints of beekeeping activities. For this purpose, a sample of 110 beekeepers randomly selected was investigated. Data about socio-economic and demographic characteristics of households as well as the difficulties in beekeeping were collected through individual interviews and focus groups. The statistical analysis done with R software version 3.1.2 have shown that beekeeping in the study area was influenced by three important socio-economic factors such asthe municipality of the producer, , literacy level and the producer belonging to a village agricultural association. The studies also revealed that the development of beekeeping faced many problems such as: the lack of financial resources, the low level of knowledge in beekeeping techniques, the lack of extension services, the high level of parasitism and other forms of constraints as theft, bush fire. Taking into account these results will allow to pay more attention on farmers’ and beekeepers situation what will be a means of alleviating of rural poverty.

AbstractDue to the inappropriate use of florfenicol in agricultural practice, florfenicol resistance has become increasingly serious. In this work, we studied the novel florfenicol resistance mechanism of an animal-derived Leclercia adecarboxylata strain R25 with high-level florfenicol resistance. A random genomic DNA library was constructed to screen the novel florfenicol resistance gene. Gene cloning, gene knockout, and complementation combined with the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) detection were conducted to determine the function of the resistance-related gene. Sequencing and bioinformatics methods were applied to analyze the structure of the resistance gene-related sequences. Finally, we obtained a regulatory gene of an RND (resistance-nodulation-cell division) system, ramA, that confers resistance to florfenicol and other antibiotics. The ramA-deleted variant (LA-R25ΔramA) decreased the level of resistance against florfenicol and several other antibiotics, while a ramA-complemented strain (pUCP24-prom-ramA/LA-R25ΔramA) restored the drug resistance. The whole-genome sequencing revealed that there were five RND efflux pump genes (mdtABC, acrAB, acrD, acrEF, and acrAB-like) encoded over the chromosome, and ramA located upstream of the acrAB-like genes. The results of this work suggest that ramA confers resistance to florfenicol and other structurally unrelated antibiotics, presumably by regulating the RND efflux pump genes in L. adecarboxylata R25.

Although arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi are known to promote growth and yield of agricultural crops, inoculation methods for effective scaling up from greenhouse to the field are still underexplored. The application of single or mixed beneficial AM fungal isolates is hindered by the lack of experimental reproducibility of findings at different scales and the cost-effectivity of inoculation methods. Seed coating has been considered a feasible delivery system of AM fungal inocula for agricultural crops. In this study, the impact of single and multiple AM fungal isolates applied via seed coating on chickpea productivity was evaluated under greenhouse and field conditions. Overall, plants inoculated with multiple AM fungal isolates had better performance than those inoculated with single AM isolate under greenhouse and field conditions. While plants in greenhouse displayed higher shoot dry weight (14%) and seed individual weight (21%), in field, inoculation with multiple AM isolates increased pod (160%), and seed (148%) numbers, and grain yield (140%). Under field conditions, mycorrhizal root colonization was significantly higher in chickpea plants inoculated with multiple AM fungal isolates compared to other treatments. These findings highlight the potential of field-inoculation with multiple AM fungal isolates via seed coating as a sustainable agricultural practice for chickpea production.

The purpose of research was to identify the advantages and disadvantages of the forms of development of farm lands using the grounds from the State Treasury Agricultural Property (STAP) in Warmińsko-Mazurskie voivodeship. In the opinions of researched group, the main advantage of lease was the opportunity to maintain the agricultural production in lower (than in the way of buying) prices. The most important disadvantage of the lease was insecurity of managing in longer perspective of time. The most important asset of buying the agricultural lands is the possibility of further investments in the farm without having to worry about losing the grounds. Respondents pointed out that the main disadvantage of buying the grounds is the high prices of such form of using.
