The experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of chromium (Cr) and cadmium (Cd) on the quality of Japanese quail eggs. The birds (n = 60) were divided into 3 groups of 20 animals each. Group 1 was the control group. Group 2 was administered 0.12 mg Cr/day (Cr group) per quail in drinking water, whereas Group 3 was given a combination of 0.12 mg Cd and 0.12 mg Cr/ day (Cd-Cr group). The distribution of Cd in eggs, the egg mass, and the strength and thickness of shells was determined after after Day 35 and 58 of administration. Addition of Cr had a positive effect on the weight of eggs. A significant decrease of eggshell strength (p < 0.05) and thickness was found after Day 35 and 58 of the experiment in the Cd-Cr group (3) in comparison to the Cr-only group (2) and the control group (1). The content of Cd was significantly lower (p < 0.05) in eggshells and in the egg yolk from the Cr-only group (2) in comparison to the Cd-Cr group (3) and the control group (1). The data show that addition of Cr can improve quality indicators of quail eggs and eliminate the negative effect of Cd.

Abstract The article describes the results of comparative studies on the influence of new immunostimulants on the course of postnatal recovery of the cows under conditions of intensive milk production technology. Injections of PS-2 (group 1) and Prevention-N-E (group 2) at a dose of 10 ml forty, twenty and ten days before calving, and a injection of PDE at a dose of 20 ml with E-Selenium of 10 ml (group 3) twenty days before calving prevent the occurrence of obstetric and gynecological pathology, improve reproductive qualities, as compared to the control group, where no biologicals were injected. This fact impacts the acceleration of the first heat onset by 13.7-21.1 days, the conception rate by 0.5-0.7 times, the service period by 16-29.9 days. A positive effect of the tested agents on metabolic processes, morphological and biochemical blood parameters, nonspecific immunological reactivity of the organism was also established. All these factors led to an increase in milk productivity for 305 days of lactation by 186-478 kg, at the same time, milk quality indicators improved correspondingly. Thus, biological preparations PS-2 and Prevention-N-E are highly effective means of preventing obstetric and gynecological pathology.

Background. Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic skin condition where nonadherence often results in lack of disease control. Objective. We wanted to determine whether the combination of an electronic memory button and a supportive application (app) would affect the Quality of Life and subjective and objective severity measures among AD patients over one month following the patient’s normal schedules of treatment. Methods. A randomized, investigator-blinded, prospective observational feasibility study for one month where patients diagnosed with AD were randomized based on POEM severity score and divided into 3 groups. The 3 groups were (1) the control group with two consultations, (2) in addition to group 1, patients also received electronic memory buttons to click every time they used their topical products, and (3) in addition to group 2, patients also received an app to track their treatment schedules. At both consultations, patients were evaluated using SCORAD, EASI, POEM, and DLQI. Results. 96 patients were enrolled and randomized, of which 83 patients completed the study. EASI and SCORAD scores were lower in all groups at 2nd consultation (p<0.05); however, these were highly significant for group 3 (p<0.005), and for EASI between groups 2 and 3 (p<0.05). The POEM score decreased significantly in group 3 (p=0.024), and no difference was found in DLQI between visits. Conclusion. A reduction in severity following objective assessments of the AD was observed for all groups and was highly significant for patients offered a memory button and the corresponding app. Furthermore, patients reported a significant subjective beneficial effect if they used the memory button and app. This indicates that digital solutions may have a benefit in clinical practice and may reduce nonadherence and increase the wellbeing of the patients.

Aim. To assess the effect of cytoflavin on the dynamics of the blood and oral fluid prooxidant-antioxidant system in patients with maxillofacial area phlegmons.Materials and methods. 55 patients were included in the study. The patients were divided into three groups: control group (group 1, n = 20); comparison group (group 2, n = 15); patients with phlegmons of the maxillofacial area (group 3, n = 20). As part of therapy, the patients in group 3 were additionally receiving cytoflavin (10 ml cytoflavin in 200 ml saline solution, 1 time per day, for 6 days). The treatment and monitoring was performed over the period of 6 days, during which the blood and oral fluid indicators were estimated 4 times (day 1, 2, 4 and 6).Results. Cytoflavin had a positive effect on the state of the prooxidant-antioxidant balance in patients with maxillofacial area phlegmons. In comparison with the control group, patients in group 3 demonstrated a lower content of oxidative modifi cation products and a higher antioxidant activity of blood plasma. Cytoflavin therapy also led to an increase in the activity of glutathione peroxidase and reductase, as well as an increase in the concentration of glutathione at the last stage of the therapy.Conclusion. The obtained data indicate the potential of cytoflavin as part of complex metabolic therapy for patients with purulent inflammatory processes of the maxillofacial area.

Purpose: To investigate the biomechanical, histological, and radiological effects of sildenafil and pentoxifylline on femoral fracture healing in rats. Methods: Forty-eight Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into three groups equally according to the pharmacological agents to be investigated. Femoral shaft fractures were formed in the left side. Group 1 (control group), group 2, and group 3 were administered with saline, sildenafil, and pentoxifylline during the fracture healing process, respectively. Eight rats from each group were euthanized on days 15 and 30. X-ray images of the rats were taken after euthanasia for radiographical examination. Femur samples were subjected to histopathological and biomechanical (three-point bending) examinations. Results: Radiologically, no difference between the Goldberg scores of the groups was found for day 15 ( p > 0.05), while higher Goldberg scores were obtained from group 2 than that of group 1 ( p > 0.05) and group 3 ( p < 0.05) for day 30. In the biomechanical analysis, higher mean breaking forces were found both for day 15 and day 30 from group 2 than those obtained from group 1 (for day 15 p > 0.05 and day 30 p > 0.05) and group 3 (for day 15 p < 0.05 and day 30 p < 0.01). Higher mean absorbed energy values were obtained from group 2 than those obtained from group 1 (for day 15 p > 0.05 and day 30 p < 0.05) and group 3 (for day 15 p < 0.01 and day 30 p < 0.01). A significant difference was not found between the histological scores of all groups ( p > 0.05) for day 15, while the histological score of group 1 on day 30 was found to be significantly lower than that of sildenafil and pentoxifylline groups ( p < 0.05). Conclusion: Sildenafil had a positive effect on fracture healing, while pentoxifylline did not provide consistent positive effect.

To identify the prevalence of early pathology of cardiovascular diseases, a survey of 400 200 girls) in the age group 15 and 17 years old was conducted as a part of routine medical of the level of blood pressure (BP) was carried out, with the calculation of the average level pressure on the basis of three separate measurements estimated by percentile tables for a registration of a standard resting ECG in 12 leads. According to the results of the survey, into 3 groups: with an increase in blood pressure above 95 ‰ (group 1 – 16 people), which recorded in males (p<0,05); Group 2 (67 people) – adolescents with a normal blood pressure level and group 3 of adolescents with a decrease in blood pressure below 5 ‰ changes in the form of rhythm and conduction disturbances were noted in almost every a predominance of sinus tachycardia in the first group. In the third group of adolescents, form of ectopic rhythm and pacemaker migration were significantly more frequently only 78 % of adolescents were referred for consultation and in-depth examination by a pediatric cardiologist.

Abstract Purpose There is no consensus on quality of life (QOL) in patients with acromegaly requiring medical treatment after surgery compared with those achieving remission by surgery alone. Methods QuaLAT is a cross-sectional study comparing QOL in surgery-only treated acromegaly patients versus those requiring medical treatment post-surgery. Patients attending clinics were identified and divided into—Group 1: patients who had surgery only and were in biochemical remission, Group 2: all patients on medical treatment post-surgery, Group 3: patients from Group 2 with biochemical control. Participants were asked to fill three questionnaires; Acromegaly Quality of Life Questionnaire (ACROQOL), 36-Item Short Form Survey (SF36), and Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS). Results There were 32 patients in Group 1 and 25 in Group 2. There was no difference in QOL scores between groups 1 and 2, as measured by ACROQOL (mean difference [MD] = − 2.5, 95% CI − 16.6 to 11.6; p = 0.72), SF36v2 [Physical component score (PCS) MD = − 4.9, 95% CI − 10.9 to 1.2; p = 0.12; mental component score MD = − 3.0, 95% CI − 10.5 to 4.4; p = 0.44], or FSS (MD = − 0.004, 95% CI − 1.14 to 1.33; p = 0.1). Comparison between groups 1 and 3 however showed that PCS (and 3 subdomains) was significantly better in group 3 (MD = − 8.3, 95% CI − 14.8 to -1.8; p = 0.01). All three QOL scores were lower when compared with healthy controls. Conclusions Medical treatment not only achieves a QOL comparable to surgery, it may also be associated with better QOL in physical subdomains. When compared with healthy controls, QOL remains worse in treated acromegaly patients compared to controls.

Objective. To compare the efficacy of different methods of surgical correction of isthmocele after caesarean section. Patients and methods. The study included 56 patients aged 29–41 years, who were divided into three groups: group 1 (n = 16) – patients who underwent surgical laparoscopy with suturing the uterine wound with single-row separate muscularmuscular sutures; group 2 (n = 23) – patients after repair of the uterus with a double-row continuous seromuscular and muscular-muscular suture performed by laparoscopy; group 3 (n = 17) consisted of patients who underwent laparotomy and suturing the uterine wound with a double-row continuous suture. Results. We developed a three-stage plastic and reconstructive surgical laparotomic and laparoscopic program in case of the uterine scar incompetence, which improved the quality of life in all patients. Pregnancy occurred 9–14 months after plastic and reconstructive surgery on the uterus and resulted in timely surgical delivery in 4 (25%) patients in group 1, in 7 (30.4%) patients in group 2 and in 3 (17.6%) patients in group 3. Two (12.5%) patients in group 1 and three (13.04%) patients in group 2 were observed during pregnancy with a period of 10–28 weeks. Conclusion. The use of laparoscopy ensured better visualization of anatomical structures (vessels, nerves, ureters, bladder), which led to a decrease in intraoperative blood loss, in the risk of damage to adjacent organs and in the development of adhesions, and to accelerated postoperative rehabilitation of patients. Key words: double-row suture, istmocele, laparoscopy, metroplasty

Background The aim of this study was to evaluate the postoperative morphine-sparing effects and reduction in pain and secondary mechanical hyperalgesia after preincisional or postincisional epidural administration of a local anesthetic and an opioid compared with a sham epidural control. Methods Patients undergoing major gynecologic surgery by laparotomy were randomly assigned to three groups and studied in a double-blinded manner. Group 1 received epidural lidocaine and fentanyl before incision and epidural saline 40 min after incision. Group 2 received epidural saline before incision and epidural lidocaine and fentanyl 40 min after incision. Group 3 received a sham epidural control (with saline injected into a catheter taped to the back) before and 40 min after incision. All patients underwent surgery with general anesthesia. Results One hundred forty-one patients completed the study (group 1, n = 45; group 2, n = 49; group 3, n = 47). Cumulative patient-controlled analgesia morphine consumption at 48 h was significantly lower (P = 0.04) in group 1 (89.8 +/- 43.3 mg) than group 3 (112.5 +/- 71.5 mg) but not group 2 (95.4 +/- 60.2 mg), although the hourly rate of morphine consumption between 24 and 48 h after surgery was significantly lower (P < 0.0009) in group 1 (1.25 +/- 0.02 mg/h) than group 2 (1.41 +/- 0.02 mg/h). Twenty-four hours after surgery, the visual analog scale pain score on movement was significantly less intense (P = 0.005) in group 1 (4.9 +/- 2.2 cm) than group 3 (6.0 +/- 2.6 cm) but not group 2 (5.3 +/- 2.5 cm), and the von Frey pain threshold near the wound was significantly higher (P = 0.03) in group 1 (6.4 +/- 0.6 log mg) than in group 3 (6.1 +/- 0.8 log mg) but not group 2 (6.2 +/- 0.7 log mg). Conclusions Preincisional administration of epidural lidocaine and fentanyl was associated with a significantly lower rate of morphine use, lower cumulative morphine consumption, and reduced hyperalgesia compared with a sham epidural condition. These results highlight the importance of including a standard treatment control group to avoid the problems of interpretation that arise when two-group studies of preemptive analgesia (preincisional vs. postsurgery) fail to find the anticipated effects.

Background: We investigated whether the frequency of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) increased in patients in whom double-J stents were applied. We also evaluated several medical therapy protocols to treat symptoms related with ureteral stents.Materials and Methods: A total of 108 patients, in whom unilateral double-j stent was applied during ureteral stone treatment, were included. Before the double-J stent was applied, all patients completed storage components of the “International Prostate Symptom Score” (IPSSs), quality of life components of the IPSS (IPSS-QOL) and “Overactive Bladder Questionnaire” (OABq) forms and scores were calculated. After the procedure, cases were randomized into 5 groups, an antiinflammatory was given to Group 1, spasmolytic to Group 2, anticholinergic to Group 3 and α-blocker to Group 4. No additional drug was given to Group 5 as this control group. During the fourth week of the procedure, IPSSs, IPSS-QOL and OABq forms were again completed and scores were compared with the previous ones. Results: When all the cases were evaluated, the IPSSs, IPSS-QOLand OABq scores of patients in whom the double-J stent was applied were statistically significantly higher the procedure. Compared to the control group, the cases where the double-J stent was applied showed a higher IPSSs, IPSS-QOL and OABq scores and none of the medical therapies could prevent this increase.Interpretation: The frequency of LUTS increased in cases where the ureteral stent was applied and discomfort continued as long as the stent stayed in the body.
