ABSTRACT Aim This work describes clinical cases treated with a innovative single-use and single-file nickel-titanium (NiTi) system used in continuous rotation. Background Nickel-titanium files are commonly used for root canal treatment but they tend to break because of bending stresses and torsional stresses. Today new instruments used only for one treatment have been introduced. They help the clinician to make the root canal shaping easier and safer because they do not require sterilization and after use have to be discarded. A new sterile instrument is used for each treatment in order to reduce the possibility of fracture inside the canal. The new One Shape NiTi single-file instrument belongs to this group. Case description One Shape is used for complete shaping of root canal after an adequate preflaring. Its protocol is simple and some clinical cases are presented. It is helpful for easy cases and reliable for difficult canals. Conclusion After 2 years of clinical practice, One Shape seems to be helpful for the treatment of most of the root canals, with low risk of separation. After each treatment, the instrument is discarded and not sterilized in autoclave or re-used. Clinical significance This single-use file simplifies the endodontic therapy, because only one instrument is required for canal shaping of many cases. Objective: To compare cleaning effectiveness by histological analysis of a reciprocating single-file system with ProTaper rotary instruments during the preparation of curved root canals in extracted teeth. Methods: A total of 40 root canals with curvatures ranging between 20 - 40 degrees were divided into two groups of 20 canals. Canals were prepared to the following apical sizes: Reciproc size 25 (n=20); ProTaper: F2 (n=20). The normal distribution of data was tested by the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test and the values obtained for the test (Mann-Whitney U test, P < .05) were statistically analyzed using the GraphPad InStat for the Mac OS software (GraphPad Software, La Jolla, CA, USA). Results: There were no significant differences in remaining debris (P > .05) between the two groups. Conclusion: The application of reciprocating motion during instrumentation did not result in increased debris when compared with continuous rotation motion, even in the apical part of curved canals. Both instruments resulted in debris in the canal lumen, irrespective of the movement kinematics applied.

The most important step in the success of the root canal treatment is the proper cleaning and shaping of the canal system. Cleaning and shaping means the removal of the entire pulpal tissue from the canal, so that there will be no residue left of any vital structure, that may cause any painful or infectious condition for the future. Some times there occurs difficulty in cleaning as well as shaping of the root canal in the posterior tooth or teeth, where the anatomy of the root is some what curved, and there occur difficulty in removing the vital tissue along with difficulty in achieving the accurate working length of the tooth. In this type of situation use of nickel titanium single file system is quite beneficial.

Abstract The aim of this study was to compare the amount of apically extruded debris during root canal instrumentation using ProTaper Next (PTN), Twisted File (TF) Adaptive, and Reciproc instruments. Forty-five extracted human maxillary canines were selected and randomly assigned into 3 groups. The root canals were prepared using PTN instruments with continuous rotation (n=15), TF Adaptive instruments with adaptive motion (n=15), Reciproc instruments with reciprocating motion (n=15). During the preparations, canals were irrigated using distilled water and material extruded apically was collected in pre-weighed Eppendorf tubes. After a 5-day drying period in an incubator, the tubes were weighed and the dry weight of the extruded debris was calculated. Data distributions were assessed via the Shapiro-Wilk test, and groups were compared via the Kruskal-Wallis test. The greatest amount of debris extruded by TF Adaptive and the least by PTN, but the difference was insignificant between groups (p=0.259). All instrumentation systems were associated with debris extrusion.

AIM: To study the efficacy of reciprocating single file system and multifile rotary systems in elimination of root canal bacteria and endotoxins. MATERIAL AND METHOD: Forty permanent single rooted mandibular premolars with straight canals inoculated with Escherichia Coli suspension for 21 days were selected for the study. Teeth were randomly divided into four groups (n=10) according to instrumentation system: Grp. A–Reciproc (VDW); Grp. B–WaveOne (Dentsply Maillefer); Grp. C–MTwo (VDW); and Grp. D–K3( Sybron Endo); Bacterial and endotoxin samples were collected with a sterile paper point before instrumentation  and after instrumentation. Culture methods estimated the colony-forming units (CFU) and the Limulus Amebocyte Lysate test was used for quantification of endotoxins. Results so obtained were calculated and statistically analysed.  RESULT: Results at S1 concluded that bacteria and endotoxins were found in all of the investigated root canals. After instrumentation all systems were associated with the significant reduction of the bacterial load and endotoxins respectively: Grp. A– Reciproc (88.25% and 89.10%); Grp. B– WaveOne (83.53% and 80.59%); Grp. C– MTwo(79.41% and 75.84%) and Grp. D– K3 (67% and 74.4%). Statistically no difference was found amongst the instrumentation systems regarding bacteria and endotoxin elimination (P <0.05).  CONCLUSION: The reciprocating single file, Reciproc and WaveOne were as effective as the multifile rotary systems for the eradication of bacteria and endotoxins from root canals.

Aim. The aim of this study was to assess the preparation of root canals using single-file instruments Wave One (Densplay-Sirona) and Reciproc (VDW Gmbh). Materials and methods. Forty lower mesial and distal root canals were divided into 4 groups (n=10) according to shaping technique; mesial roots were prepared using Reciproc 25 and WaveOne Primay and distal root using Reciproc 40 and Wave One Large respectively. Pre- and post-instrumented radiographs were taken to examine and compare the cross-sectional shape of the canals at 3, 6 and 9 mm. Results. Wave One led to bigger diameters especially at 9 mm, the difference being of 0,22 mm versus Reciproc 25 and 0,14 mm versus Reciproc 40. Conclusions. The Wave One system produced a bigger tapered root canal preparation versus the Reciproc system.

Background. This study aimed to compare the VDW.ROTATE instruments with the Reciproc Blue instruments in different kinematics in terms of the cyclic fatigue resistance. Methods. Sixty instruments, 40 VDW.ROTATE and 20 Reciproc Blue instruments, were divided into three groups (n=20): VDW.ROTATE was used in both continuous rotation and reciprocation, and Reciproc Blue was used in reciprocation only. The cyclic fatigue resistance test was carried out in an artificial canal (60°, r=3 mm) at an intracanal temperature of 35±2°C until fracture, and the time to fracture was recorded in seconds. The data were analyzed statistically using Kruskal–Wallis and Tamhane’s T2 tests (P<0.05). Results. DAll the reciprocating motion groups resulted in a longer mean duration to failure than the continuous rotation motion group (P<0.05). Conclusion. It was observed that the Reciproc Blue instruments had higher cyclic fatigue resistance than VDW.ROTATE instruments (P<0.05). Recent studies have shown that reciprocal movement increases cyclic fatigue resistance compared to rotational movement. The VDW.ROTATE instrument, which has a similar size, design, and alloy as the Reciproc Blue instrument, can also be used by clinicians in reciprocating motion with endo motors capable of reciprocating in different directions. However, even if the cyclic fatigue resistance increases by using VDW.ROTATE instruments in reciprocation, the cyclic fatigue resistance is lower than Reciproc Blue instruments.
