Aim. The aim of this study was to assess the preparation of root canals using single-file instruments Wave One (Densplay-Sirona) and Reciproc (VDW Gmbh). Materials and methods. Forty lower mesial and distal root canals were divided into 4 groups (n=10) according to shaping technique; mesial roots were prepared using Reciproc 25 and WaveOne Primay and distal root using Reciproc 40 and Wave One Large respectively. Pre- and post-instrumented radiographs were taken to examine and compare the cross-sectional shape of the canals at 3, 6 and 9 mm. Results. Wave One led to bigger diameters especially at 9 mm, the difference being of 0,22 mm versus Reciproc 25 and 0,14 mm versus Reciproc 40. Conclusions. The Wave One system produced a bigger tapered root canal preparation versus the Reciproc system.

Background and aims. The purpose of this study was to compare several parameters of root canal preparation using two different rotary Nickel-Titanium instruments: Pro-Taper (Dentsply Maillefer, Ballagigues, Switzerland) and Hero-Shaper (Micro Mega, Besancon, France).Methods. Twelve extracted maxillary premolars were randomly divided into two groups and embedded into a muffle system. All root canals were prepared to size 25 using Pro-Taper or Hero-Shaper rotary instruments.  The following parameters were evaluated: root canal form, centering capacity of the instrument, the presence of residual dentinal debris and smear layer on the root canal walls, working time and the occurrence of intraoperative accidents. Statistical analysis was performed using the chi2 test (p=0.05).Results. The majority of the root canals prepared with Hero Shaper (88.89%) and ProTaper (77.78%) showed a round or oval cross-section postoperatively. Superposition of pre- and postoperative photographs of the cross-sections showed that for the coronal third of the root canals the Hero Shaper performed in a superior manner, while for the apical third better results were obtained with the Pro Taper system. Cleanliness of the root canal walls was investigated under the SEM, in the middle third of the canal, using a five-score system for debris and smear layer. For debris Hero Shaper and Pro Taper rotary systems achieved 66.67% and 50% scores of 1 or 2, respectively. The results for the smear layer were similar: cleaner root canal walls were found after preparation with Hero Shaper (66.67% scores 1, 2), followed by Pro Taper (50%). Mean working time was shorter for Hero Shaper (124s) than for Pro Taper (184s); the difference was not significant.Conclusions. Within the limits of this study, both systems had almost the same cleaning ability and excellent centering capacity.

Compliance with the algorithms of endodontic treatment in most cases ensures the quality of treatment. However, real, long-term and sometimes immediate results that occur in clinical practice are not always successful. In general, the main reason for the unfavorable outcome of dental treatment is an incomplete sanitation of the root canal system. Modern publications by J. F. Siqueira, I. N. Rocas, and D. Ricucci (2019) note that many issues of endodontic treatment are unresolved. It follows that improving the quality of endodontic treatment is still relevant.Aim. To compare two systems of instruments for root canal preparation with different types of rotation.Materials and methods. To identify a tool that will increase the efficiency of root canal preparation, taking into account their anatomy using CBCT, 24 teeth were removed, taken according to orthodontic or pristidintic indications, without previous endodontic treatment. Among them there were 2 incisors, 1 canine, 6 premolars, 15 molars. In total, 60 canals were examined.Results. The shape changes throughout the canal, turning into a round, oval, slit-like, complementing the configuration by the isthmuses between the canals in 13.3% of cases. WaveOne Gold showed a change in cross-sectional shape after preparation, while ProTaper Universal retained a rounded section of 6.67% after preparation of the slit-like channels.Conclusion. Identified priority technique of root canal preparation, allowing to reduce the number of instruments and, as a consequence, the possibility of technological failures in the root canal to reduce machining of the mouth of the channel, retaining dentine playing a major role in the further prosthesis and positive prediction of remote results.

Abstract Background: Evaluation of changes in volume after root canal preparation. with single file rotary systems such as Reciproc-Blue, WaveOne-Gold and XP-EndoShaper, with a new in vivo study model using CBCT and 3D reconstructions on patients Methods: Thirty human lower premolars were randomly divided into three groups, in which the root canals were prepared using one of these single-file systems: Reciproc-Blue, WaveOne-Gold and XP-EndoShaper. Root canals were scanned before and after root canal preparation using CBCT, and a 3D reconstruction was performed with RHINOCEROS 5.0 software to assess the increase in canal volume for each group after instrumentation. The Anova test was used to determine statistically significant differences between the groups and Post-hoc Tukey's-test to compare the groups with each other. Results: The proposed 3D-reconstruction model allows to measure the variation of the volume within the root canal of the premolars studied. With this model, Reciproc-Blue showed higher increase in canal volume, followed by WaveOne-Gold and XP-EndoShaper (Anova p = 0.003). XP-EndoShaper did not show a statistically significant increase in canal volume after root canal preparation (Tukey's test for paired data p = 0.06 confirmed the results with each other). Conclusion: it is possible to use CBCT and 3D reconstruction as a model to study the preparation quality of the root canal in vivo. With this model, Reciproc-Blue showed higher increase in root canal volume, followed by WaveOne-Gold, while XP-EndoShaper did not significantly increase root canal volume during preparation.

The only form of cellulose which could unequivocally be ascribed to the animal kingdom is the tunicin that occurs in the tests of the tunicates. Recently, high-resolution solid-state l3C NMR revealed that tunicin belongs to the Iβ form of cellulose as opposed to the Iα form found in Valonia and bacterial celluloses. The high perfection of the tunicin crystallites led us to study its crosssectional shape and to compare it with the shape of those in Valonia ventricosa (V.v.), the goal being to relate the cross-section of cellulose crystallites with the two allomorphs Iα and Iβ.In the present work the source of tunicin was the test of the ascidian Halocvnthia papillosa (H.p.). Diffraction contrast imaging in the bright field mode was applied on ultrathin sections of the V.v. cell wall and H.p. test with cellulose crystallites perpendicular to the plane of the sections. The electron microscope, a Philips 400T, was operated at 120 kV in a low intensity beam condition.

Aim: To evaluate the effect of irrigation techniques, i.e. different types of irrigation needles, on the quality of cleaning of root canal walls using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Material and Method: The study was conducted on 16 extracted, single-rooted, human teeth. The samples were allocated to two experimental groups depending on the type of the irrigation needle. Conventional needles were used for the irrigation of Group I and laterally perforated ones for Group II. All root canals were instrumented using K files and the Step-back technique. During instrumentation, all samples were irrigated with 2.5 % sodium hypochlorite solution followed by final irrigation with 17 % EDTA for 1 min. After that, all samples were irrigated with 10 ml of distilled water. The roots were, then, sectioned longitudinally and middle one third of each root canal was analyzed using SEM. Quantitative analysis was based on criteria by H?lsmann et al. Results: The obtained results showed that the more efficient removal of debris and the smear layer was accomplished in the group of samples irrigated using laterally perforated needles than conventional needles. The difference between the investigated irrigation techniques were statistically significant (p<0.01). Conclusion: The use of laterally perforated needles for irrigation allows more efficient cleaning of root canal walls, i.e. the removal of debris and the smear layer.

The article considers the problem of optimizing the geometric parameters of the cross section of the belts of a trihedral lattice support in the shape of a pentagon. The axial moment of inertia is taken as the objective function. Relations are found between the dimensions of the pentagonal cross section at which the objective function takes the maximum value. We introduce restrictions on the constancy of the consumption of material, as well as the condition of equal stability. The solution is performed using nonlinear optimization methods in the Matlab environment.
