A guidance and information service for a University library based on Wi-Fi signals using fingerprinting as chosen localization method is under development at TU Wien. After a thorough survey of suitable location technologies for the application it was decided to employ mainly Wi-Fi for localization. For that purpose, the availability, performance, and usability of Wi-Fi in selected areas of the library are analyzed in a first step. These tasks include the measurement of Wi-Fi received signal strengths (RSS) of the visible access points (APs) in different areas. The measurements were carried out in different modes, such as static, kinematic and in stop-and-go mode, with six different smartphones. A dependence on the positioning and tracking modes is seen in the tests. Kinematic measurements pose much greater challenges and depend significantly on the duration of a single Wi-Fi scan. For the smartphones, the scan durations differed in the range of 2.4 to 4.1 s resulting in different accuracies for kinematic positioning, as fewer measurements along the trajectories are available for a device with longer scan duration. The investigations indicated also that the achievable localization performance is only on the few meter level due to the small number of APs of the University own Wi-Fi network deployed in the library. A promising solution for performance improvement is the foreseen usage of low-cost Raspberry Pi units serving as Wi-Fi transmitter and receiver.

From the 1994 CAIS Conference: The Information Industry in Transition McGill University, Montreal, Quebec. May 25 - 27, 1994.The majority of libraries still provide the majority of their services for free. But fee-based information services attached to non-profit making institutions such as libraries is not a novel concept any longer. The information explosion has brought many changes to, amongst others, the university library and at present industry and commerce rely heavily on the expertise offered by the staff of those libraries. This paper does not propose to address any ideological issues of "feeversus free" but would rather focus on the following: 1 the need for industry and commerce for utilizing the university library and its resources;2 the university library as information broker with reference toinformation skills complemented with specialized subject knowledge and experience 3 the organization of the wide range of services offered and the pricing of these services; and4 a short, but detailed description of INFOBANK, a dynamic andsuccessful regional fee-based information service to industry and commerce at the library of the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa.A university library can therefore be even more effective in promoting access to information by making it available in the community, albeit for a price. Libraries interested in establishing such fee-based services should nevertheless be aware of the pitfalls associated with the creation and management of these services. Knowledge of the latter will undoubtedly help establish a programme that serves the needs of clients whilst contributing towards the overall image of the parent institution.

A new mobile information environment has been gradually formed with the rapid development of the computer network technology in the world. In this environment, the mobile information service in the university library is able to meet the changing need of readers for the specific information online and need not visit libraries. The potential demand, opportunities and challenges of the mobile information service in the university library are analyzed respectively. At last, some advices are proposed to provide a better mobile information service in order to meet readers’ need for information in today's society.

Library as an information center is bridge toward mastery of science and technology. Libraries have an important contribution to the opening of information about science. The library is the heart of the academic life of activity, because information can be obtained from the library that can be used as a basis for the development of science. Airlangga University Library supports the achievement of Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi by providing resources that support the learning process, it is necessary to do research on traffic levels and the amount of borrowing books from Airlangga University student group. The results of the research library of the University of Airlangga shows the largest number of visitors to the library during the year 2013 which is 102 347 people FISIP students. Students of the Faculty of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries at least coming to the library which is 3,126 people. The percentage of borrowers associated with the most visitors are the students of the Faculty of Law which is 50.4% or 7,207 persons. While the percentage of students of the Faculty of Pharmacy at least borrow a book that is 5.8% or 1,528 people.

Purpose The purpose of this study was to establish a massive online open course (MOOC)-based map of higher education knowledge and apply it to university libraries. It hoped to provide more targeted and personalized learning services for every learner. Design/methodology/approach In this study, MOOC and university library information services were outlined, the development status of MOOC at home and abroad and the development of university library information services were introduced, and the necessity and significance of MOOC in developing information services in university libraries were analyzed. What is more, the knowledge map of university libraries was explored. The four modules include the construction of data sets, the identification of related entities from plain text, the extraction of entity relationships and the practical application of knowledge maps. For the logical relationship of the course, a combination of knowledge base and machine learning was adopted. In the knowledge map application module, the knowledge map was visualized. Aiming at the generation of personalized learning scheme, a prior data set was constructed by means of the knowledge base. The original problem was considered as a multi-classification problem. K-nearest neighbor classifier divided all courses into four academic years to obtain all courses. According to the course stage, the personalized learning scheme of some majors in higher education was obtained. Findings The experiment showed that it was feasible to apply the higher education knowledge map based on MOOC to university libraries. In addition, it was effective to divide the course into four stages by classifier. In this way, the specific professional training program can be obtained, the information service of the university library can be improved, and the accuracy and richness of the entire learning program can be increased. Research limitations/implications Due to the limitations of conditions, time and other aspects, there were not many opportunities to visit the field library, which led to limited level and imperfect research. There were many proper nouns and professional terms in foreign references, but my English translation ability was limited. The relevant investigation on foreign studies may not be detailed and comprehensive enough, and the analysis and induction of influencing factors of university library information service may not be rigorous and concise enough. Practical implications As the base of university information dissemination, the university library is the source of knowledge. At the same time, it is also the temple of students’ independent learning and the media of mainstream culture and improving its own information service level is also in line with the trend of The Times. Under this background, this research studied the influence of MOOC on university library information service and focused on the challenges and opportunities faced by university library information service in the MOOC environment, so as to continuously improve its cultural serviceability and better serve teachers and students. Originality/value Since the birth of MOOC, they have exerted great influence and enlightenment on universities and relevant educational institutions within a few years. European and American universities take an active part in the construction of the MOOC platform and explore how to make better use of the library to build MOOC resources in practice. It is also a hot topic for university libraries to participate in the construction of MOOC information resources. Therefore, the study of this topic has both theoretical and practical significance.
