Library as an information center is bridge toward mastery of science and technology. Libraries have an important contribution to the opening of information about science. The library is the heart of the academic life of activity, because information can be obtained from the library that can be used as a basis for the development of science. Airlangga University Library supports the achievement of Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi by providing resources that support the learning process, it is necessary to do research on traffic levels and the amount of borrowing books from Airlangga University student group. The results of the research library of the University of Airlangga shows the largest number of visitors to the library during the year 2013 which is 102 347 people FISIP students. Students of the Faculty of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries at least coming to the library which is 3,126 people. The percentage of borrowers associated with the most visitors are the students of the Faculty of Law which is 50.4% or 7,207 persons. While the percentage of students of the Faculty of Pharmacy at least borrow a book that is 5.8% or 1,528 people.

The article deals with gamification mechanisms to increase staff performance and diversify the mechanisms of professional learning to improve the training of future librarians. In this the article we conducted a survey among students-interns of the university library on their attitude to gamification in the learning process. The results revealed that respondents mostly positively evaluate gamification as a tool in the process of acquiring professional knowledge. The gamification tool is used to increase the effectiveness of learning and to facilitate the adaptation of students to the professional activities of librarians. The results of the research can be used to identify the effects of the gamification tool on improving the efficiency of training processes and the professional growth of staff in various fields.

Abstract When we look at the history of AGH – University of Science and Technology, recognized as one of the best universities in the country, we find that for that success many people worked for several dozen years. However, the subjects, the methodology and directions of their work were shaped by units – outstanding personalities of science. Just to mention, among others Professors Stanisław Zuber, Władysław Takliński, Witold Budryk, Maksymilian Tytus Huber and Władysław Bogusz. These people have shaped our institution, marked its new path of development and permanent place in the history of Polish and world science. To belong to such a group is a great ennoblement, for which one works out for his entire life. Undoubtedly, such personality was also Professor Zbigniew Witold Engel, to whom we said goodbye on November, 6th, 2013, in the St. Clement’s church in Wieliczka. Professor was born on April 1, 1933, in Zawady near Zhovkva in the province of Lviv. After graduating from Jan Matejko Middle and High School in Wieliczka in 1950 earned a matriculation certificate. Then he began his studies at the Department of Communications of Polytechnic Departments of Academy of Mining and Metallurgy and involved with our university for the next 63 years. October 1, 1952 the Department of Mechanics of the University of Mining and Metallurgy was created, and soon after began professor’s adventure that was the work of science, education and organization. The history and fate of our university are inextricably linked with the person of professor who practically since the very beginning of the Faculty supported it in all areas of its activities, and has always actively participated in academic life.

Introduction: This article discusses the causes of depression among university students and how it affects their academic life. It also looks at how students understand and define the concept of depression since research evidence points to the fact that arriving at a consensual definition for depression can be difficult due to the varying experiences among individuals influencing its definition. Methods: Data was collected through in-depth interviews with undergraduate students in the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Faculty of Social Sciences and review of various literatures on depression. Findings: The study revealed that majority of the students viewed depression as a long period of sadness where one feels hopeless and worthless; few viewed depression as a long period of sadness and isolation. Students understood the concept based on their personal experiences. It also indicates that loss of a loved one, financial crisis and unmet expectations in their academic work were the causes of depression among university students. It also confirmed that depression affects students’ academic life in a number of ways which includes inability to study and poor academic achievements. Conclusion: The study concludes by acknowledging that students are able to cope with their depression on their own, yet it recommends that the counseling unit of the university be made easily approachable and strengthened, students encouraged to seek guidance and counseling.

Current society is heavily influenced by science and technology, indicating the need to train generations with critical ability to analyze messages and make responsible decisions in the context in which they act. This is reflected in teaching in general, requiring the university to be a stimulating environment and not merely transmitting knowledge. The teaching-learning process in science education, in particular engineering, can not therefore be restricted to traditional methods. New practices and technologies, with diversified resources and strategies, have been necessary in the improvement of teaching. The present work had the objective of developing an active method for teaching in engineering, at the School of Engineering of Lorena, University of São Paulo. The results show that students crave experiences that develop transversal competences, and that the transmission of theoretical content loses its place for teaching that promotes a process of autonomous construction of knowledge.

This research is intended to know the effectiveness of quantum reading model by printing media with yen basis in reading concept learning to students of grade 4th elementary school. The problems are: profile of students reading concept competences, the learning process of reading concept, the learning process of reading concept by quantum reading model by printing media with yen basis, the effectiveness of quantum reading model by printing media with yen basis in reading concept learning, and students response of quantum reading model by printing media with yen basis. The trouble-shooting is by use quantum reading model by printing media with yen basis by assumption: if students need to do something therefore will be easily to motivate them in learning and get a better result.Population in this research is Grade 4th Students of elementary school at Sumber Regency, Cirebon. The sample is determined by purposive sampling. The objects in this research are quantum reading model by printing media with yen basis and students reading concept competences. Instruments in this research are sheets of questionnaire, sheets of learning observation, and reading concept competence test. Data that are collected are learning process and data of students reading concept competences. Collected data are analyzed by descriptive statistic analyze.Result of this research are: (1) the competences of students reading concept are good, (2) the learning process are done with students actively, (3) quantum reading model by printing media with yen basis can increase students activity and learning result, (4) quantum reading model by printing media with yen basis is effective to use in reading concept learning, and (5) the students response to reading concept learning by use quantum reading model by printing media with yen basis is very good.Base on the result of this research, get to be proposed for teacher to use quantum reading model by printing media with yen basis to increase students reading concept competence as one of alternative technique in learning, because it is able to motivate, grow the students interest, and increase students creativities to increase students reading concept competences.
