A new ligand [N-(4-nitrobenzoylamino)-thioxomethyl] phenylalanine is synthesized by reaction of 4-nitrobenzoyl isothiocyanate with phenylalanine (1:1). It is characterized by micro elemental analysis (C.H.N.S.), FT-IR, (UV-Vis) and 1H and 13CNMR spectra. Some metals ions complexes of this ligand were prepared and characterized by FT-IR, UV-Visible spectra, conductivity measurements, magnetic susceptibility and atomic absorption. From results obtained, the following formula [M(NBA)2] where M2+ = Mn, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Pd, Cd and Hg, the proposed molecular structure for these complexes as tetrahedral geometry, except copper and palladium complexes are have square planer geometry.

In this work, Schiff base ligands L1: N, N-bis (2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde) hydrazine, L2: N, N-bis (salicylidene) hydrazine, and L3:N –salicylidene- hydrazine were synthesized by condensation reaction. The prepared ligands were reacted with specific divalent metal ions such as (Mn2+, Fe2+, Ni2+) to prepare their complexes. The ligands and complexes were characterized by C.H.N, FT-IR, UV-Vis, solubility, melting point and magnetic susceptibility measurements. The results show that the ligands of complexes (Mn2+, Fe2+) have octahedral geometry while the ligands of complexes (Ni2+) have tetrahedral geometry.

Graphene was synthesized by microwave-hydrothermal chemical reduction of graphite oxide using hydrazine hydrate as the reducing agent. Graphene was characterized using X-ray diffraction, UV-visible spectrum, FT-IR spectrum and scanning electron microscopy. Results indicated that the as-prepared graphene was wrinkled and comprised fewer graphenes with a highly crystalline structure.

In this paper, the preparation of amphiphobic CaCO3-wood composite by reaction of CaCl2 and Na2CO3 in wood through double-diffusive method in the presence of perfluorooctane surfapropyl betaine (DF-921) is demonstrated. The properties of synthesized CaCO3-wood composite were investigated by the contact angle analysis, X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). The mechanical properties of the product were tested. The experimental results suggested that a much higher properties performance for the wood-based composite with modified CaCO3. The surface of the new product exhibited the amphiphobic property.

A novel Co(III) complex derived from hexaadentate Schiff base ligand, H3L was described. The ligand is prepared from the reaction of tris-2-aminoethyl amine and o-vanillin in 1:3 molar ratio. The structure of the ligand and its Co(III) complex was described by micro-analyses, FT-IR, NMR, ESI-MS and UV/visible and thermal stability. DFT study was carried out to get insights into the ligand and its Co(III) complex to compare the values of bond lengths and angles with each other. The electronic spectra, Mulliken atomic charge distribution, HOMO-LUMO energy and the thermodynamic parameters have been calculated.

A series of novel biphenylnate liquid crystalline polyurethanes (BLCPs) were synthesized by polyaddition reaction of 4,4’-dihydroxybiphenyl with 2,4-TDI(2,4-toluenediisocyanate) and diethylene glycol through changing the molar ratio of diphenol and diol. The thermotropic properties, the melting point (Tm) and the isotropization temperature (Ti) of the synthesized polyurethanes were characterized by FT-IR, DSC, POM and WXRD. The results of experiments showed that all of the polyurethane polymers exhibited thermotropic liquid crystalline properties between 130°C and 230°C. The transition temperature (Tm and Ti) decreased with an increase in the length of the flexible chain.

Ag (I) Metal complex of this Schiff base ligand prepared by reaction of nitrate salt of Ag (I) with NNBIH. Characterization of the ligand was made by microanalyses, FT-IR, UV–Visible spectroscopy and its complex was made by microanalyses, FT-IR and UV–Visible spectroscopy. TG- DTA and other analytical methods have been applied to the investigation of the thermal behavior and Structure of the compound [Ag(NNBIH)2]+. Thermal decomposition of these compounds is multistage processes.

A series of chromophores based on benzene and thiophene moieties as π-conjugating spacers were designed and synthesized by Horner-Emmons-Wadsworth reaction and Vilsmeier-Haack reaction, followed by Knoevenagel reaction with different electron acceptors. Their structures were confirmed by 1HNMR, FT-IR, HPLC-Ms, UV-visible spectra, and the thermal properties were characterized by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Solvatochromic method was used to measure their nonlinear optical properties. The variation of chromophoric structures on NLO properties was investigated, indicating that the cyano substitution on the vinylene bridge of the chromophore produces a considerable red-shift of the absorption maximum, and would greatly enhance the molecular quadratic hyperpolarizability (βμ).

In this work, a simple and low cost synthetic method for four different copper nanomaterials having uniform shape and size using copper(II) acetate and cis-bis(glycinato)copper(II) complex in presence of non-ionic surfactants Tween-80 and Triton X-100 in the presence of ascorbic acid as reducing agent is described. The synthesized nanomaterials were characterized using FT-IR, UV-visible, powder XRD, EDX and SEM techniques. The characterization data reveals that all the copper nanomaterials formed are less than 30 nm size with spherical shape.
