With the recovery of the world economy following the easing of restrictions designed to contain COVID-19, energy demand has surged even as natural gas stocks were dangerously low. This triggered one of the first significant energy shocks of the green era and exposed the fragilities of the ongoing process to green the energy system.

We extend the dynamic Heckscher–Ohlin model in Bond et al. [Economic Theory(48, 171–204, 2011)] and show that if the labor-intensive good is inferior, then there may exist multiple steady states in autarky and poverty traps can arise. Poverty traps for the world economy, in the form of Pareto-dominated steady states, are also shown to exist. We show that the opening of trade can have the effect of pulling the initially poorer country out of a poverty trap, with both countries having steady state capital stocks exceeding the autarky level. However, trade can also pull an initially richer country into a poverty trap. These possibilities are a sharp contrast with dynamic Heckscher–Ohlin models with normality in consumption, where the country with the larger (smaller) capital stock than the other will reach a steady state where the level of welfare is higher (lower) than in the autarkic steady state.

The article discusses the relationship between the development of fuel and energy Uzbekistan with GDP growth (gross domestic product). Data are provided on the forecast growth rates of the world economy, the average developed countries and Uzbekistan, factors for ensuring GDP growth in tandem with the efficiency of the use of fuel and energy resources. Based on the cross-country regression analysis, the model of the influence of the energy system performance index (EAPI) on GDP growth is shown.

The paper considers the growing importance of gas chemistry for the world economy and the related necessity of developing new, particularly noncatalytic technologies for the conversion of natural gas and other hydrocarbon gases into chemical products. The available and promising noncatalytic processes of their conversion into syngas as well as the direct methods for the synthesis of chemical products from methane, which is the main component of natural gas, are discussed.

If properly designed and utilized, earth has rich potential of clean energy in satisfying the energy demand of the world. In this chapter, nature-inspired methodology was employed to optimize hybrids of renewable energy system in the case of Jeldu district of Ethiopia. The main goal of the researchers here is to minimize the total annual cost of the system, which can be designed by using appropriate numbers of components based on the pre-designed constraints to satisfy the load demand. MATLAB code was designed for the proposed methodology, and the results were discussed. It was seen from the result that the proposed approach has solved the optimum sizing of defined problem with high convergence. The results show that energy demand of the village can be optimally satisfied by the use of wind and solar hybrid system. Moreover, the application of this chapter is important for countries like Ethiopia to increase access to electricity.

This is due to growing populations which results in more homes, businesses, and industries and has resulted in a large number of new appliances that increased the energy demand to a new level. The electric system we are using today is a one-way energy flow. Smart grid has emerged as the solution of continuously increasing demand. It is the future of electric energy system and also the power grid for upcoming generations. SG system works on the dual technique, that is, it counts electricity flow and the information which could deliver and distribute the energy universally by automating the existing electrical network.

Although these factor has renewed the interest of natural gas as a fuel there are a number of problems to be overcome in order to put the projects (especially LNG) on stream. Under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the world has pledged to “leaving no one behind”. Responding to goal No. 7 on the agenda, efforts to provide modern energy to all the world population must be pushed forward. This is important because electrification in the rural area can indirectly support opportunities for social and economic development resulting in an acceleration of the eradication of poverty. The research goal of this study is to contribute insights about the scale of energy demand in unelectrified villages in the Southeast Asian countries and to discuss some factors that might influence the energy demand growth. This is done by making projections based on surveys and interviews, including a time-use survey, in three off-grid villages located in Myanmar, Indonesia, and Laos. Our analysis presented the living condition, highlight the types of energy sources, how, and in what rhythms people use energy on a daily basis in those villages. The demands in each case study villages were then projected based on several constructed scenarios. It was found that the factors of household size, proximity to the city, climate, and topography may influence the present and future growth of energy demands in the villages. The estimated energy demand may be useful for project managers to design a pilot off-grid energy system project in a similar environment and pointed out important factors to consider when formulating off-grid energy policies in the region.
