The competence of science teachers in Padang City Junior High Schools in developing learning tools is still low, as revealed by the teacher's pre-test abilities before the workshop is held. Pre-test includes gathering information about learning resources, learning media, models / methods / approaches, and assessment instruments used by teachers not yet utilizing the environment. Referring to the problems of teachers, problem-based workshop activities are designed in an effort to improve teacher competencies in designing learning tools based on environmental potential. Problem-based workshops have stages: (1) problem identification, (2) Focusing on problems, (3) Finding alternative solutions, (4) Presentation of solutions; (5) Implementation and (6) Reflection & follow-up. The workshop was attended by 20 junior high school science teachers in Padang city. The workshop activities consisted of 2 parts, namely the workshop activities at FMIPA UNP and the Implementation activities at SMP 25 Padang. Online learning is a basic need of education in the 21st century. The benefits of online learning are felt in the continuity of education during the Covid-19 pandemic. This study aims to examine the impact of online learning on the learning motivation of Junior High School students. The results of the research discussion indicate that online learning has advantages, namely 1) as a medium to encourage independent learning; 2) as an effort to modernize the concept of education in the 21st century; 3) increasing the intensity of the interaction between teachers and students; 3) allows for an interaction that is not limited to space and time, and 4) meaningful learning. The impact of online learning on student learning motivation tends to be negative due to the unpreparedness of various parties, including teachers, parents, students, and schools. Early adolescents who need direct guidance, direction, and motivation must lose control due to reduced direct interaction with the teacher. The monotonous implementation of online learning, lack of direction and supervision, pressure for students to study from home, and low teacher innovation are the main causes of decreased learning motivation due to online learning.

The COVID-19 pandemic has prompted an unprecedented shift from face-to-face to online learning. Considering the impact of this transition, the researchers developed a scale measuring the stress levels of 319 junior high school students. Based on the evaluation of experts, the item content validity index (I-CVI) proved the validity of each item. From the original 32, 20 items were retained after conducting exploratory factor analysis (EFA). A new clustering was derived from the results, namely: (1) physical health, (2) task management, (3) valuing, and (4) relating to oneself and others. The final 20-item scale was proven to have internal consistency among items with Cronbach’s alpha of 0.923. The results of measurement invariance (MI) tests indicate that the newly developed four-factor stress scale in the context of online learning measure the same underlying constructs across sex, grade level, and age groups. Consequently, the differences in stress levels among the groups were also determined.

Abstract In the contexts where English is taught as a foreign language, especially to beginners, project-based learning is often perceived as complicated to implement and difficult to assess. This Indonesian research was inspired by the need to address those misgivings. First, a project-based model for practical learning activities in EFL classes was created using a research and development design. In this stage, a careful reading to the English as a Foreign Language curriculum for junior high school students was conducted in an attempt to identify the topics, basic competencies, and indicators of success. Based on the results of the curriculum analysis, a careful development of project-based learning tasks was carried out. This article first of all described how the learning materials were developed with reference to the results of curriculum analysis and characteristics of learners. The developed materials were then sent to expert judges to check for relevance, readability and quality of the materials. In the next stage, the materials were tried out in three junior high schools in Bali, Indonesia, to further check the readability and practicability of the product as a teaching and learning innovation. Finally, after a revision to the materials, a quasi-experiment involving 36 students, was conducted in a school to examine the impact of project-based learning on students’ productive skills in English as well as on their attitudes towards learning the language. The data collection method used during the quasi experiment included: classroom observation, interviews with teachers and students, and a questionnaire. The overall impact of the implementation was evaluated using a t-test formula. It was found that project-based learning caused consistent improvement in the abilities to speak (monologue and dialogue) and to write (on a topic of students’ own choice). In addition, it was observable that project-based learning has an impact on students’ positive attitudes toward learning the foreign language. This was indicated by the motivation, enthusiasm, and excitement on the part of the students during the process of planning, working on a project, as well as on the assessment procedures.
