Information about material kinds of artificial reef which effective for marine organism habitat is rare. Based on this fenomena, It is important to conduct a study about bamboo and tire artificial reef. The objective of this study is to find out a catch comparison and species compotition of pot catch on bamboo and tire artificial reef. Alternatif a widely used materials are bamboo and tire with consideration easy to obtain and economis. The result of this study show that the total catch during the study was 170 fishes from 8 species dominated by Siganus javus, Seranidae sp and Carangidae sp. The total catch of the Tire artificial reef was 87 fishes including 48,19 % Siganus sp, 23,53% Seranidae sp and 10,06 % Lethrinidae sp where as Bamboo artificial reef was 83 fishes including 33,34 % Siganus sps,26,3% Seranidae sp and 14,26 % Carangidae sp . The result showed that catch of bamboo artificial reef was significantly difference from the catch of tire artificial reef where the catch of tire artificial reef was higher than that catch of bamboo artificial reef.

Bioactive peptides are short chain of amino acids (usually 2-20) that are linked by amide bond in a specific sequence which have some biological effects in animals or humans. These can be of diverse origin like plant, animal, fish, microbe, marine organism or even synthetic. They are successfully used in the management of many diseases. In recent years increased attention has been raised for its effects and mechanism of action in various disease conditions like cancer, immunity, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, inflammation, diabetes, microbial infections etc. Bioactive peptides are more bioavailable and less allergenic when compared to total proteins. Food derived bioactive peptides have health benefits and its demand has increased tremendously over the past decade. This review gives a view on last two years research on potential bioactive peptides derived from food which have significant therapeutic effects.

Abstract Algae are the oldest taxa on Earth, with an evolutionary relationship that spans prokaryotes (Cyanobacteria) and eukaryotes. A long evolutionary history has led to high algal diversity. Their organelle DNAs are characterized by uniparental inheritance and a compact genome structure compared with nuclear genomes; thus, they are efficient molecular tools for the analysis of gene structure, genome structure, organelle function and evolution. However, an integrated organelle genome database for algae, which could enable users to both examine and use relevant data, has not previously been developed. Therefore, to provide an organelle genome platform for algae, we have developed a user-friendly database named Organelle Genome Database for Algae (OGDA, http://ogda.ytu.edu.cn/). OGDA contains organelle genome data either retrieved from several public databases or sequenced in our laboratory (Laboratory of Genetics and Breeding of Marine Organism [MOGBL]), which are continuously updated. The first release of OGDA contains 1055 plastid genomes and 755 mitochondrial genomes. Additionally, a variety of applications have been integrated into this platform to analyze the structural characteristics, collinearity and phylogeny of organellar genomes for algae. This database represents a useful tool for users, enabling the rapid retrieval and analysis of information related to organellar genomes for biological discovery.

AbstractThe shallow, gently sloping, sandy-silty seabed of the Venetian coast (Italy) is studded by a number of outcropping rocky systems of different size encouraging the development of peculiar zoobenthic biocenoses with considerably higher biodiversity indexes compared to neighbouring areas. In order to protect and enhance the growth of settling communities, artificial monolithic reefs were deployed close to the most important formations, providing further nesting sites and mechanical hindrance to illegal trawl fishing.In this framework, a multi-step and multi-scale numerical modelling activity was carried out to predict the perturbations induced by the presence of artificial structures on sediment transport over the outcroppings and their implications on turbidity and water quality. After having characterized wave and current circulation climate at the sub-basin scale over a reference year, a set of small scale simulations was carried out to describe the effects of a single monolith under different geometries and hydrodynamic forcings, encompassing the conditions likely occurring at the study sites. A dedicated tool was then developed to compose the information contained in the small-scale database into realistic deployment configurations, and applied in four protected outcroppings identified as test sites. With reference to these cases, under current meteomarine climate the application highlighted a small and localised increase in suspended sediment concentration, suggesting that the implemented deployment strategy is not likely to produce harmful effects on turbidity close to the outcroppings.In a broader context, the activity is oriented at the tuning of a flexible instrument for supporting the decision-making process in benthic environments of outstanding environmental relevance, especially in the Integrated Coastal Zone Management or Maritime Spatial Planning applications. The dissemination of sub-basin scale modelling results via the THREDDS Data Server, together with an user-friendly software for composing single-monolith runs and a graphical interface for exploring the available data, significantly improves the quantitative information collection and sharing among scientists, stakeholders and policy-makers.

Abstract Assessment of Northeast Arctic cod is based on estimates of the commercial catch in numbers at age. The age structure of the catch is estimated by sampling fish from commercial fishing trips. Although it is commonly assumed that a sample of individuals is a random sample from the population, fish sampled from the same trip (i.e. from a “cluster” of fish) tend to be more similar in age than those in the total catch. For Northeast Arctic cod, the intracluster correlation for age is positive, and therefore the effective sample size is much smaller than the number of fish aged. Given the number of fish aged, the precision of the estimated age distribution is rather low, and the number of fish aged from each trip could be reduced from approximately 85 to 20 without a significant loss in precision.
