This article presents results of paleopathological study of non-adult skeletons from three Srubnaya culture cemeteries (Karanaevskiy, Nikolaevskiy and Chumarovo-1) located in the southwest of the Republic of Bashkortostan. The analyzed sample includes skeletal remains of 41 individuals from burials dated to the 1600–1400 BC. In this study solely skeletal pathologies are discussed without dental pathologies. The following groups of pathologies were recorded: abnormal cortical porosities and subperiosteal new bone formation, endocranial lesions, traces of chronic sinusitis, mastoiditis and otitis media, as well as markers of “physical stress” (including skeletal traumas). This work attempts to assess the “quality of life” of the non-adult Srubnaya culture population of the Southern Ural. The sample is characterized by an underrepresentation of infants and young children and increased proportion of adolescents, indicating that the burial grounds were formed according to some socially selective principles. The studied group is characterized by the absence of macroscopical manifestations of specific infections and reliably diagnosable cases of scurvy or rickets. High frequencies of anemia markers (cribra orbitalia) and chronic maxillary sinusitis are likely indicative not of a maladaptation, but, on the contrary, of the good enough adaptation of the non-adults of the Srubnaya culture population to the environmental factors. Well expressed “physical stress” markers (cortical defects, osteochondritis dissecans and Schmorl’s nodes), observed for the studied osteological sample, suggest that children as young as 6–7 years old were likely involved in household activities.

Abstract Background caregivers of home-cared cancer patient during palliative phase are often under psychological and physical pressure. This can lead to a low level quality of life (QoL). This study assesses the QoL of this type of caregiver, more specifically it aims to outline which factors (age, type of palliative care, amount of time spent daily with the patient) affect positively or negatively the QoL score. Methods The AC-QoL questionnaire has been completed by 25 caregivers of oncological patients in home care in north-eastern Italy. The questionnaire is made of 40 items divided into 8 subjects: support in care, choice of care, stress, economic issues, personal growth, sense of value, care skills and personal satisfaction. It has been administered during a home visit or during a follow-up phone call. Results The average score obtained is 71/120, which means a medium level of QoL. The factors which worsen the QoL are the psychological and physical stress (average score 5/15) and restrictions on caregivers' private life (average score 6/15). No significant differences in the QoL of the caregivers are related to social and personal variables (such as age, working condition, relationship with the patient, type of palliative care, amount of time spent daily with the patient). Conclusions These caregivers play a fundamental role in the management of an appropriate continuity of care and their health and QoL are important. Stress and restrictions on private life are the factors which worsen QoL, that's why nurses should evaluate the caregivers' wellbeing during home-visits. Caregivers usually feel able to offer adequate assistance if they have been adequately trained to by healthcare professionals: nurses should provide every useful tool to aloud the caregiver to feel able of and comfortable providing assistance to his/her relative trough an “empowerment process”. Key messages Caregiver of cancer patient in charge of home palliative care is fundamental for an appropriate continuity of care and his health and quality of life (QoL) are important to provide good assistance. Psycho-physical stress and restrictions on private life worsen QoL. Caregiver’s wellbeing should be assessed and useful tools should be provided by home care nurses to ease caregivers’ job.

Myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs) are associated with a high disease burden, reduced quality of life and shortened survival. The aim of this questionnaire was to gain patients' and caregivers' perspectives on the impact of living with an MPN in the Republic of Ireland. An Irish adaptation of the ‘Global MPN Landmark survey’ was conducted. Fifty-one patients and 44 caregivers completed the questionnaire. Patients reported a wide variety of symptoms at the time of questionnaire completion; fatigue, bone pain and pruritus being most frequently reported. Approximately one-third of respondents from each of the groups (patients and caregivers) reported a negative impact of MPNs on their emotional wellbeing and daily lives. The study findings revealed that, despite treatment, symptom burden remains high, and several unmet needs exist, including educational, emotional and peer group support. Interventions that focus on reducing symptom burden and addressing these unmet needs, may improve the quality of life for patients with MPNs and their caregivers.

In the Republic of Serbia, on March 15 th , 2020 Government decided to declare a state of emergency due to the Covid-19 pandemic. One of the measures was a movement ban for people over 65 in urban areas and those over 70 in rural areas. This research should indicate how people over 65 in urban areas have endured this situation, especially in relation to the same population in rural areas, as well as implications of the movement ban on the quality of life of the elderly population. Special importance is given to the rural population engaged in agriculture. A tool of data collection in this research was anonymous survey. Respondents' answers were statistically processed, which led to clear conclusions about the large negative consequences for the elderly population, including the agricultural activities in rural areas. Covid-19 is still present, which opens further questions related to the quality of life of the elderly population, if necessity for similar measures recurs in the future.

Lactobacillus reuteri. Functional disorders of the gastrointestinal tract in infants and young children are an extremely common problem, the diagnosis of which is based on the Rome IV criteria. Colic in an infant definitely increases family stress levels, impairing the quality of life for both the parent and the child. Infant colic refers to repeated, prolonged periods of crying, restlessness, or irritability in infants under 5 months of age. The pathophysiology of infant colic is not entirely clear. For many pediatricians, monitoring babies with colic is a challenge. Non-drug techniques include swaddling, prone positioning, rocking, as well as a gas tube. The possibilities of using probiotics, for example, Lactobacillus reuteri, are currently being actively explored.
