Die Erforschung der Malakofauna der Türkei wird kurz dargestellt. Als Resultat einer fast 40-jährigen Beschäftigung mit den kontinentalen Mollusken der Türkei werden einige Fakten zur Taxonomie und Biogeographie der Malakofauna des Landes vorgestellt. Wesentliche Faktoren, die die Verbreitung dieser Tiergruppe beeinflussen, werden diskutiert. Die Bedeutung des Landes als Brückenkopf für die Ausbreitung der Malakofauna des Vorderen Orients wird dargestellt. Die Bedeutung des Landes für die Radiation von Landschnecken im westpaläarktischen Rahmen wird ausgeführt. The land snails of the Eastern Mediterranean – a hot spot of the Palaearctic malacofauna Abstract: The malacological research of Turkey is briefly presented. As a result of almost 40 years of study of the continental molluscs of Turkey, some facts on the taxonomic structure of the country’s malacofauna are presented. Major factors influencing the distribution of this group of animals are discussed. The importance of the country as a bridgehead for the dispersal of the malacofauna of the Near East is presented. The importance of the country for the radiation of land snails in the Western Palaearctic framework is elaborated.

This article assembles examples of an unusual vessel found in domestic contexts of the Early Bronze Age around the Aegean and in the Eastern Mediterranean. Identified as a “barrel vessel” by the excavators of Troy, Lesbos (Thermi), Lemnos (Poliochni), and various sites in the Chalkidike, the shape finds its best parallels in containers identified as churns in the Chalcolithic Levant, and related vessels from the Eneolithic Balkans. Levantine parallels also exist in miniature form, as in the Aegean at Troy, Thermi, and Poliochni, and appear as part of votive figures in the Near East. My interpretation of their use and development will consider how they compare to similar shapes in the archaeological record, especially in Aegean prehistory, and what possible transregional relationships they may express along with their specific function as household processing vessels for dairy products during the third millennium BC.

To date, attempts to account for reported differences in digestive efficiency of camelids and ruminants have focused on factors such as stomach motility and the retention time of feed particles. The physical breakdown of forage into particles small enough to pass through the reticulo-omasal orifice is one of the major factors influencing the rate of passage of digesta from the reticulo-rumen in ruminants. Two of the main processes involved in particle size reduction are chewing (pre- and post-regurgitation) and microbial fermentation. While the characteristic vertical and horizontal jaw movement which occurs during mastication in the camelid is believed to allow for efficient use of the premolars and molars in cutting and grinding fibrous feeds, there have been no comparative studies to verify this, and to assess the contribution of chewing to differences in digestibility coefficients. The aim of this experiment was to directly compare particle breakdown during chewing by guanacos and sheep.

AbstractStudies of abundance and distribution of organisms are fundamental to ecology. The identity of host species is known to be one of the major factors influencing ectoparasitic flea abundance, but explanations are still needed regarding how host taxa influence abundance parameters of different flea species. This study was carried out at La Malinche National Park (LMNP), Tlaxcala, Mexico, where previously 11 flea species had been recorded on 8 host species. Our aims were to list micromammal flea species, to determine flea infection parameters [flea prevalence (FP) and flea mean abundance (FMA)] and to analyse the influence of host species on these parameters. A total of 16 species of fleas were identified from 1178 fleas collected from 14 species of 1274 micromammals captured with Sherman®traps from March 2014 to December 2015 in 18 sites at LMNP. Some host species influence FP and FMA, in particular,Microtus mexicanusandPeromyscus melanotisshowed particularly higher infection values than other host species.Plusaetis aztecusandPlusaetis sibynuswere identified as the most abundant flea species.

Children are delicate and most sensitive and prone to the infectious diseases. They are miniature of adult. They are in Ajatvyajanawastha (developing stage). Psychologically they are innocent. Being in developmental phase, Ahara plays very important role in the life of children. So parents should be aware of dietetic components required by child in different age groups.
