School from home create new problems for high school students who experience psychological problems in dealing with various changes. Study aimed to overview the psychological condition of high school students during school from home due to COVID-19. Descriptive research with internet survey method was used in this research. Participants consisted of 201 adolescent aged 14-18 years (Mage=16.62, SD=.73). Result indicated that high school students experience negative feelings during school from home such as boredom (35.99%), tired (24.84%), sad (18.47%), and worried (11.46%). Some have positive feelings, such as happy (8.60%) and neutral feeling (0.64%). Negative feelings caused by less face-to-face interactions with teachers and friends, more assignments, internet problem, and distractions at home. This needs consideration to prevent psychological problems in adolescents as a result of school from home.

In this study, a “Revised Empathy Scale” was constructed by using an empathy scale from the previous study (Hashimoto & Shiomi, 2000). A questionnaire consisting of 30 items on empathy and the Shimoda Personality Inventory (SPI) were administered to a total of 870 subjects (466 university and 404 high school students). Through factor analyses, four factors were extracted for the empathy scale. The four factors were named the “Cannot feel others' positive feelings,” the “Can feel others’ positive feelings,” the “Can feel others' negative feelings,” and the “Cannot feel others' negative feelings,” respectively. Their reliability and validity were confirmed. The characteristics of empathy in adolescents were clarified by the scale's relationship with the characteristics of the SPI.

Background and Purpose: Recent technological advancements and Covid-19 pandemic have prompted more opportunities for online learning. However, there is a dearth of empirical research that is focused on high school students. Therefore, this study aims to obtain a more comprehensive view of ESL learners’ involvement or word contributions in a ‘normal’ face-to-face situation and in a synchronous online text-based environment by relating it to their personality and language proficiency.   Methodology: In this study, a quasi-experiment was carried out over four weeks. It involved eight sessions of face-to-face and online discussions with 48 Malaysian high school students who were divided into two matched-sample groups. The participants' feedback was used to support and provide insights on the findings. The quantitative data were analysed using using IBM SPSS statistics 26 software while the participants’ responses to the online feedback session were analysed using open coding and axial coding strategies.   Findings: Statistically significant difference was found in learners’ word contributions during face-to-face and online discussions. Apart from the extroverts with high-intermediate language proficiency, the other groups of learners who are either introverts or having lower level language proficiency were found to produce significantly more words in synchronous online text-based discussions. The non-face-to-face context of online forums might have lowered the learners’ level of anxiety and increased their confidence to interact with their peers. Contributions: Learners’ personalities and language proficiency levels should be considered when choosing a discussion setting and when facilitating discussion activities. More support should be provided for the less proficient or introverted learners to express themselves in a face-to-face discussion.     Keywords: Personality, Language proficiency, Computer-mediated communication, Synchronous text-based online discussions, Word contributions   Cite as: Chew, S. Various types of educational devices that are used as a support for the creation of a good education are certainly important. One of them is using an effective method to provide a concept to students optimally. This study aims to analyze how high and important the influence of the experimental method on science subjects at the junior high school. The method used is a qualitative research method with a mini survey method on 47 samples consisting of junior high school students, high school students, college students, and alumni students as well as a literature study method (library study) which is carried out by screening electronic books (e-books) and e- journals. The results showed that 94% of experimental research methods were effectively used and 6% were not effectively used in the science learning process. The effectiveness of this method is that students can prove that an accepted concept is in accordance with the given theory and students can hone their psychomotor abilities. The weakness of this method is that it can be seen from the inadequate infrastructure, the ability of teachers, controlling students, and the selection of practicum materials.
