This study uses the relational content analysis method and theories of intertextuality, intersectionality, and womanism to explore the continuity of womanist ethos in select novels of the African-American novelist Alice Walker. It attempts to explore Walker’s use of womanism as an intertextual trope in The Third Life of Grange Copeland (1970), Meridian (1976), The Color Purple (1982), The Temple of My Familiar (1989) and Possessing the Secret of Joy (1992); Walker’s portrayal of Celie-Shug as a perfect womanist couple in Color Purple and their reappearance in Temple as mother trees; foremothers as role models in Third Life and Temple; Walker’s telling and retelling of Tashi’s life-long suffering from female genital mutilation (FGM) in Color Purple, Temple, and Possessing – the subject of this paper.

Postmodern culture, which developed after the modern period, is in a structure in which postfordist consumption understanding is adopted instead of fordist consumption and consumption for image purposes is at the forefront. In this context, brands create their images in order to be remembered in the current culture and to create a lifestyle for the continuity of consumption. The creation process of images, on the other hand, is through advertisements where the continuous production and consumption of high reality and commodities is made, and it shows a common development with postmodern culture brand images. Within the scope of the study, a descriptive approach and content analysis method were preferred in order to make sense of how brand images are produced through advertisements in the postmodern period and to deal with the constructing dimension. Accordingly, the top 10 brands in the ranking of the Brand Finance 2021 Turkey Report were selected as a sample and the ads of the selected brands between 1 June 2021 and 5 June 2021 with the theme of world environment day were analyzed. As a result of the analysis, within the framework of advertising and consumption; brand images in the postmodern period, where there are higher realities, fragmented consumer structure, production and consumption change places and the subject is decentralized; Impressions can be evaluated in various ways such as symbolism, personification, meanings and messages and psychological elements. Looking at the general position, it has been concluded that the structural features of postmodernity are effective in creating and creating brand image characters, and in this respect, it shapes brand images.

With the detection from the post-colonial perspective, there is a certain amount of truth in the statement that Alice Walker’s The Color Purple sometimes reveals Eurocentric ideology, even though she overtly makes efforts for Africa and Africans. The way in which she delineates Nettie’s missionary job in Olinka, confirms habitual Western suspicions about equality between Europe and Africa. With the reexamination of the depiction about the African continent Nettie sketches out, additionally, we might notice Walker’s intention of setting up Africa as a foil to Europe, to some extent, echoes Said’s orientalist discourse.

Bromley’s Family Law has an enduring reputation as the definitive text on the subject. Its hallmark qualities of clarity, authority, comprehensiveness and readability have been relied upon by generations of readers. The text presents a broad treatment of the key issues relating to adult and child law. Each chapter provides an up-to-date critical discussion of the current legislative and case law position (including European Court of Human Rights’ decisions), proposals for reform and issues of current concern. Particular attention is also paid to the increasingly significant international dimension of family law, with a new chapter on this area covering the 1996 Hague Convention on the Protection of Children and reflecting the UK’s departure from the EU. This edition has been updated to provide up-to-date coverage on heterosexual civil partnerships, religious marriage (non)-recognition, the 2020 Domestic Abuse Bill, forced marriage protection orders, female genital mutilation protection orders, stalking protection orders, the Divorce, Dissolution and Separation Act 2020, online divorce, transgender parenthood, surrogacy, parental orders, child arrangement orders, radicalisation, and voluminous case law across all topics.

The legal definition of torture is not limited to pain and suffering inflicted during interrogation or as punishment. Other practices, like domestic violence and female genital mutilation, have gradually been incorporated into the definition of torture and other ill-treatment. The absolute prohibition of torture extends to practices justified on grounds of “medical necessity” or “therapeutic purpose,” but which nevertheless inflict pain crossing the requisite threshold of severity, including the denial of pain relief and legally available abortions, or practices affecting persons with psychosocial disabilities or suffering from drug addiction. This chapter illustrates the gray areas where health care and the prohibited infliction of pain collide, discussing the rapidly evolving legal definition of torture and concepts like legal capacity, consent, and medical necessity. It recognizes that international law on the subject is far from settled, especially with regard to standards enacted by the recent Convention on the Rights of Persons With Disabilities.
