In the current digital era, internet access became easier moreover with the new 5G technology. Some parts of the society, namely the Millenials and Gen-Z, have been exposed to the said technology since they were in school. Creative ideas poured intensively by them as a result of said technology; one of them being in literature, i.e. popular literature. Everyone is able to become a writer or just to read someone else's work. To complement, internet can also be used as a realization of our imagination. The chance is then exploited by fans of some fandom who want to realize their creativity in form of fictional works to create satisfaction and joy both for writers and readers. Considering that, fanfiction emerges and receives attention because of its uniqueness. Previous researches on fanfiction have shown how fanfiction became exist in society. For that reason ,we are interested to study whether there is a relation between the popularity of fanfiction with society's reading habit. Moreover, we try to discover factors that influence this habit. We found that the popularity indeed has a relation with reading habit, eventhough not entirely influences it. Furthermore, we also compare fanfiction's popularity with other types of literature to measure how popular fanfiction is in the society.

This research examines the personal style blog from a philosophical perspective in an attempt to understand its implications for fashion diffusion theory. Starting from an evaluation of Georg Simmel’s trickle-down theory of diffusion (1904), the paper goes on to dissect the rhetoric of democratization that has come to define fashion blogging in the media and previous scholarship, only to show that the success of bloggers both reaffirms and challenges the notion that fashion is elitist. Phenomenologist Martin Heidegger’s concepts of authenticity and inauthenticity are then used to gain a better grasp of how the personal style blog reflects the dual nature of fashion and of the Self. Tavi Gevinson’s The Style Rookie was selected as a case study to demonstrate the personal style blog’s potential to act as an authentic means of expression, while still being a part of the inauthentic media complex.

Increased Internet access in Latin America has intensified hate speech targeting people of African descent and normalized existing racial stigmas and negative constructs. Discriminatory speech can bolster the legitimization and implementation of racist ideologies, exclusion, and violence. The digital era has introduced a rethinking about issues of racism as it feeds the rise of inequality and transforms understanding of race and identity. Echoing the resistance by an emerging cohort of Black youth activists, innovators, and entrepreneurs, this essay argues that they have created a new form of digital anti-racism activism (DARA) that serves as a mechanism to disrupt structural inequalities and combat the harmfulness of racist speech online. A more inclusive engagement with modern-day scholarship encompassing the struggles, approaches, and knowledge produced in two countries of the Global South may be helpful when debating interventions for and prevention of hate crimes, racism, and exclusion of youths of African descent.

Various surveys indicate very low rates of reading interest in Indonesia. Then a question emerges; can printed books reading interest represent the overall reading habit? How is the contribution of reading through online media to the index of Indonesian reading interest? Digital era has changed society’s reading behavior. Thus, the parameters of reading interest need to be revised. There are at least five elements need to be considered in assessing reading interest in the digital era, namely (1) The Essence of Reading (2) The Technology Evolution (3) The Society Characteristic in Digital Era (4) Reading as Social Activity (5) Reading Behavior in Digital Era. However, there are some points need to be considered, namely: (1) Adequate infrastructure (2) Human resources capability (3) Reading sources. Considering the change of reading behavior, reading interest is not necessarily about how many books have been read, but also how many of information sources or online reading materials have been clicked, read, shared, discussed, saved or downloaded. It is the key for government or decision makers to provide good quality reading sources online and how is the contribution of reading through online media to the index of reading interest based on online readers needs, interests and behavior.

This study examines COVID-19’s impact on the journalistic routines of U.S. community newspapers during the pandemic’s early months. Oral history interviews with 22 journalists and state newspaper association directors indicate weekly journalists discarded entrenched journalistic routines to better serve their communities during a crisis. However, structural issues with business models, internet access and legal definitions of newspapers hinder weeklies from fully embracing the digital era during a crisis and in the long term.

The article refers to the way the recent TV drama Brexit: The Uncivil War deconstructs the inherent contradictions of modern capitalism. Historically, both Marx and the avant-garde believed that acceleration or deceleration will aggravate the contradictions to the point of the collapse of the system. British cultural theory further expounds this issue by adding a curious philosophical perspective of the way capital deals with the abstraction of the real in the digital era. Their take on accelerationism subsequently created two competing aesthetic and political concepts: the left wing that endeavours to exploit the dialectical negativity in order to re-purpose the technological speed away from capital’s imaginary, and the right wing that embraces the acceleration of the forces of production to disclose the invasion of posthuman, machinistic Singularity.
