Purpose – This study aims to determine the effectiveness of using Big Book media on early reading skills in children aged 5-6 years old.Design/methods/approach – This study used a quantitative approach which was carried out in an experimental method with a pre-post-test design. The sampling technique uses a simple random technique with 30 children. Data collection technique is by means of tests. The analysis technique for testing the hypothesis uses the difference test (t-test).Findings – The results showed that children in the experimental group who used Big Book media had a higher average score when compared to children in the control group who used magazine media. Based on the t-test calculation, findings indicate that there was a significant difference between the two groups. Thus, it can be concluded that the Big Book media is effective on early reading skills in children aged 5-6 years old.Research implications/limitations – This study was limited to one location, Mutiara Al-Madani Kindergarten, Jambi Indonesia, and with a small sample size, so the generalizability of the findings was also limited. It is necessary for future researchers to conduct studies with a wider scope and a more diverse population.Practical implications – The use of Big Book media can be an alternative learning media that can attract children's interests and can actively involve children in gaining rich literacy experiences in improving early reading skills.Originality/value – This study contributes to understanding of teacher's reference material in using learning media for early reading skills in children aged 5-6 years old. Early reading is a unique and important skill for children’s language development, as well as a means of communication for humans. Individuals will acquire new information, knowledge and new experiences through reading. The main and fundamental problem in this study is that many children are not able to read fluently. This study is aimed at early childhood with reading delays. This study aims to determine the improvement of reading comprehension through the method of reading picture story books. The method used in this research is descriptive and qualitative methods, the data is collected through observation and documentation. Based on the results of study, it was found that there was an increase in reading comprehension with picture story books.

This study aims to determine the inhibiting factors for early reading in grade II students of SDN 32 Cakranegara and alternative solutions that can be used so that they do not experience obstacles in beginning reading. Internal factors include intelligence, interests, talents, and motivation, while external factors include family environment, school environment, and community environment. This type of research uses a descriptive qualitative approach. Data collection techniques were carried out through interviews, observation, and documentation. The data analysis technique used is data reduction, data presentation, conclusion or verification. . Test the validity of the data using triangulation of sources, and the availability of references. The subjects of this study were second grade students. The results of this study indicate that the inhibiting factor for early reading of students in grade II is the lack of interest, talent, motivation from within the students themselves to learn to read, this is also supported by family and school environmental factors. First, the lack of support and motivation from parents and families towards students in the absence of special attention given to students in teaching students to read at home, secondly, the absence of teacher creativity in teaching students to read and the absence of facilities from schools that support the learning process. There are also strategic efforts used by the teacher in overcoming the obstacles to students' early reading, namely dividing students / focusing on teaching students who cannot read, providing special books for early reading, playing games / games, reminding parents to often teach children to read at home, no matter how busy they are, and train students on a daily basis. Keywords: analysis, inhibiting factors, early reading, SDN 32 Cakranegara.

The interactive e-book was developed to improve early reading and writing skills as log of pandemic Covid-19. The type of this research is R&D with the product of this research is the E-Book Interactive reading and writing starters. The questionnaire instrument was used as a research data collection technique. The results of the product validity test show the following results. First, the appearance of the interactive E- book product has an attractive appearance, second, the selection of an attractive typeface and the presentation of animated text in the form of a video embedded in the interactive E-book. Third, to get students involved in learning activities it is necessary to have interaction in learning, interesting content and presentations combbined with learning videos to explain the material interactively

This research was motivated by the fact that in the first grade of SDN Keret Krembung there were students who experienced the ability to read early. Therefore, the researcher wants to analyze the abilities experienced by students in beginning reading. The purpose of this research is to find out what is being faced by class I students so that they experience early reading skills. This study uses a qualitative research approach, this research has a special approach in the field, this study uses 2 student subjects. Data was collected using observation, interviews, and documentation. Test the validity of the data is done by triangulation techniques or methods. The results showed that the abilities experienced by first-class students in reading the beginning of SDN Keret Krembung were: (1) they could pronounce the letters of the alphabet, (2) they could identify letters, (3) they could recognize vowels, (4) they could distinguish between letters and letters. letter.

Existing research has mainly examined the role of cognitive correlates of early reading and mathematics from a stationary perspective that does not consider how these skills unfold and interact over time. This approach constraints the interpretation of cross-domain associations and the specificity of domain-specific covariates. In this study, we disentangle the role of these predictors and investigate cross-domain associations between reading, math, and two related domain-specific predictors (phonological awareness and fluency with number sets) over the kindergarten years (n=512, Mage=54months, SDage=3.5, 52% females). Results reveal that the overlap between reading and math skills changes over development. Reciprocal associations between reading and math abilities are observed at earlier stages; then, reading abilities become the lead force. Findings also show that phonological awareness and fluency with number sets are domain-specific predictors that do not contribute to cross-domain gains in academic skills. Indeed, there is a trend for domain-specific skills to be more strongly related to achievement at the beginning of formal education than at the beginning of kindergarten, which suggests an increasing differentiation of domains over the kindergarten years. Such findings have implications for the timing and nature of interventions that aim to support children’s reading and mathematical development.
