Huawei has suffered a heavy toll on sales in international markets because of the US sanction, but it has successfully utilized its strength and opportunity, meaning having use sales promotion, patriotism and proprietary technology in promotions in the domestic market, and having switched and secured its suppliers. Therefore, the sales in the Chinese mainland is quite satisfactory to Huawei, and this situation let Huawei achieve an increase in sales revenue. In addition, the impact of the US sanction on Huawei's liquidity and profitability is minimum. Therefore, financially speaking, Huawei reacted well to the US sanction.

The decade of the 1990s have seen the introduction of several regulatory changes in international markets that have had a dramatic impact on the competitiveness of the Canadian softwood lumber industry. These regulatory changes have occurred in virtually every major market to which Canadian softwood lumber manufacturers export, including Europe, the US, and Japan. The objective of this paper is to describe the regulatory changes that have been implemented in the major markets for Canadian softwood lumber and provide an objective discussion of the impact of these changes on the international competitiveness of Canadian softwood lumber. Denmark represents a noteworthy ‐ and rather successful ‐ example of where state-funded public service broadcasters have retained strong branding locally while asserting an online streaming presence and negotiating sustainable transnational partnerships for future collaboration, thus consolidating domestic and international markets. This article analyses the impact of the shift away from national broadcasting towards transnational production cultures on the Danish domestic market, historically dominated by local public service broadcasters: Danmarks Radio and TV2. Using the television dramas Ride upon the Storm, Liberty and Greyzone as case studies, the article examines the idea that trends towards harnessing global audiences and fostering transnational production collaborations may partially undermine the distinctive cultural and linguistic features of Danish television drama.

Since the implementation of the Individual Visit Scheme (IVS), the number of tourists from the Chinese Mainland (CM) to Hong Kong (HK) has increased dramatically. These IVS tourists have huge consumption power and account for 50–70% of the total sales revenue of many HK fashion retailers. In this context, the authors explore the consumer attitudes and preferences of the IVS tourists. Based on a random sampling method involving over 2,000 CM tourists, a questionnaire survey was conducted. The findings show that IVS tourists have complex attitudes towards higher-end brands and their extended products. Moreover, statistically significant results are found in relation to: the comparison of HK consumers with IVS tourists; the analysis of gender attitudes; and the regional analysis. Company interviews have been conducted and specific managerial insights are presented.

In recent decades, the severe drought across agricultural regions of China has had significant impact on agriculture. The standardized precipitation evapotranspiration index (SPEI) has been widely used for drought analyses; however, SPEI is prone to be affected by potential evapotranspiration (PET). We thus examined the correlations between soil moisture anomalies and the SPEI calculated by the Thornthwaite, Hargreaves, and Penman–Monteith (PM) equations to select the most suitable for drought research. Additionally, the Mann–Kendall and wavelet analysis were used to investigate drought trends and to analyze and the impact of atmospheric circulation on drought in China from 1961 to 2018. The results showed that (1) PET obtained from the PM equation is the most suitable for SPEI calculation; (2) there were significant wetting trends in Northern China and the whole Chinese mainland and most of the wetting mutation points occurred in the 1970s and 1980s and the significant inter-annual oscillations period in the Chinese mainland was 2–4 years; (3) the Chinese mainland and Northern China are strongly influenced by West Pacific Trade Wind, while Western Pacific Subtropical High Intensity and Pacific Subtropical High Area have primary impact on Southern China.

Chapter four is a close reading of Liu Zaifu, a poet, scholar and essayist who wrote prose poetry throughout the 1980s. In the early 1980s, Liu Zaifu continued prose poetry's tradition of finding a place for the subjective and the aesthetic in the world of socialist prose. The first part of the chapter engages with his aesthetic and social philosophy, and uses that engagement to translate and read his best-known work, “Reading the Sea.” The second half of the chapter traces the impact of Liu's 1989 exile on his work. Liu’s post-exile works, published in Hong Kong, reveal the connection between prose poetry and the Chinese mainland context: once he leaves, Liu stops writing prose poetry in favor of literary essays. His work and his career therefore provide a crucial commentary on the line between orthodox and unorthodox prose poetry, and between prose poetry and other prose.

Soybean is one of the main sources of protein directly and indirectly in human nutrition, and it is highly dependent on logistics to connect country growers and international markets. Although recent studies deal with the impact of logistics on international trade, this impact in agricultural commodities is still an open research question. Moreover, these studies usually do not consider the influence of all components of the logistics on trade. This paper, therefore, aims at identifying the role of logistics performance in soybean exports among Argentina, Brazil, the US and their trading partners from 2012 to 2018. Using an extended gravity model, we examine whether the indicators of the World Bank Logistics Performance Index (LPI), adopted as a proxy of logistics efficiency, are an important determinant of bilateral soybean trade facilitation. The results lead to the conclusion that it is necessary to analyze the LPI throughout its indicators because they may affect trade differently. The novelty of this article is to provide an analysis of the impact of different logistics aspects on commodity trade, more specifically in the soybean case. Finally, regarding the model results, logistics infrastructure has a positive and significant correlation with soybean trade as supposed in most of the literature.

Over the past few decades, some women's magazines have rapidly spread as a global medium. While previous researchers have noted that women's magazines act as agents of socialisation, perpetuating certain gender stereotypes and institutionalising certain gender conventions, there has been little research on how this global medium portrays women of various races. Combining content and semiotic analyses, this article is an examination of the context and content of ads that have appeared in the Chinese versions of global women's magazines. The study focused on Elle, Cosmopolitan, Marie Claire and Harper's Bazaar, all global titles currently marketed in the Chinese mainland. Findings suggest that women of different races tend to be stereotyped in different ways in these magazines, and that Western models are presented in significantly different ways from Asian models. The impact of globalisation on these differences and the implications of the findings for global advertising are discussed.
