ABSTRACT The netted melon requires special growing conditions, including a protected environment, an adequate staking system and proper water and nutrient management. This study aimed to assess the effect of irrigation levels and silicon doses on the yield and quality of Sunrise hybrid melons, in a greenhouse. A randomized block design was used, with a 5 x 3 factorial scheme and four replications. The first factor consisted of five silicon doses (0 kg ha-1, 50 kg ha-1, 100 kg ha-1, 150 kg ha-1 and 200 kg ha-1) and the second of three irrigation levels (40 %, 70 % and 100 % of the ETc). The results demonstrated that the applied irrigation levels and silicon doses have no influence on the yield traits of melon plants. The irrigation level corresponding to 100 % of the ETc promotes higher values for soluble solids (9.86 ºBrix) and maturation index (114.9) on fruits. The increase of silicon doses up to 200 kg ha-1 also increases the maturation index in the treatment with the greatest irrigation level and reduces this index at the shallowest level applied.

The experiment was conducted during rabi season 2019-2020 at Agricultural Research Station, On Farm Research Division, Alamnagar, Rangpur to find out the useful effects of organic fertilizer on growth and yield of tomato. The experiment was arranged in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with five treatments in three (03) compacted replicate blocks. The treatments included T1: 100% Recommended Chemical Fertilizer (RCF), T2: 85% CF + 3 tha-1 organic Fertilizer (OF), T3: 85% CF + 1 tha-1 OF, T4: 70% CF + 3 tha-1 OF and T5: 70% CF + 1 tha-1 OF. The highest yield was observed in T2 (50.59 t ha-1) due to more number of fruit plant-1& weight of fruit plant-1 and the lowest was in T5 (35.32 t ha-1). These results may be due the parameters of growth components increased with increasing amount of organic and inorganic fertilizers applied. Combination of organic and inorganic fertilizer treated plots produced higher yield than plots without combination of organic and inorganic fertilizer. The highest gross return (BDT. 607080) was found in T2 treatment and the lowest gross return (BDT. 423840) was recorded from T5. The highest gross margin (BDT. 328520 ha-1) was obtained from T2. The lowest gross margin (Tk. 145280 ha-1) was obtained from T5. Integrated nutrient management (combination of organic and inorganic fertilizer) is the best option for higher tomato production in Bangladesh. Progressive Agriculture 32 (1): 10-16, 2021

Garden pea (Pisum sativum L) is an important winter legume used as fresh vegetables and other drier food products. Despite of its importance as cash crop in many parts of Nepal, much study on various aspects for enhancing production and productivity has yet to be done. Therefore, to evaluate the production performance different genotypes of garden pea in eastern hills agro-ecological conditions present experiments were carried out consecutively for two years (2015 and 2016) at Agricultural Research Station, Pakhribas. The experiment comprised of 11 different genotypes of garden pea including a check variety Arkel. The production performance was evaluated in a completely randomized block design with three replications. The seeds were sown at 50 × 10 cm spacing during first week of October for two years. The result showed that DGP-05 genotype had earliest 104 days after sowing. The DGP-08 genotype showed 13 which were the maximum numbers of pods per plant (13), while DGP-01 showed 8 numbers of seeds as the maximum per pod. The DGP-03 genotype had the longest pod of 9.78 cm among others. The highest fresh pod yield of 18.14 t/ha was achieved from genotype DGP-09 followed by Arkel with (16.32 t/ha).Journal of Nepal Agricultural Research Council Vol.3 2017: 15-18

Estimation the magnitude of heterosis for yield and yield contributing parameters of Okra was conducted. Fifty-four F1 hybrids were generated by line x tester mating design. These F1s along with 21 parents and commercial check (Mhyco-10) were evaluated in a randomized block design with two replications. Analysis of variance with respect to yield and quality characters in parents and hybrids were highly significant. This indicates the existence of high variation in parents and hybrids for different characters studied. Out of 54 cross combinations, seven crosses revealed the significant and positive heterosis over better parent. While 11 crosses showed positive and significant heterosis over economic parent. It is pertinent to mention that the crop has potential to produce the heterotic cross combinations and such crosses can be used for further improvement of this crop. Five crosses, namely L43 × T44, L22 × T36, L22 × T44, L53 × T36 and L31 × T23 were found to be potential for the production of fruit yield per plant and other desired characters. The high heterosis and per se performance was found in hybrid L43 × T44 over both better parents and standard check for fruit yield per plant. This indicates that the cross can be exploited commercially. Bangladesh J. Bot. 50(3): 531-540, 2021 (September)

A field experiment was conducted at Regional Wheat Research Centre of the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute, Joydebpur, Gazipur for 2 consecutive years during 2006-07 and 2007-08. The objectives were to find out the optimum nutrient management practice on tuber yield, nutrient balance and economics of potato cultivation. Twelve nutrient management treatments were tested in a randomized complete block design with 3 replications. Treatments were T1=HYG (0-198-44-194-24-6-1.2), T2=MYG (0-140-34-138-18-4.5-0.9), T3=IPNS (10000-168-38-170-18-6-1.2), T4=STB (0-171-40-164-22-5-1), T5=FP (0-97-16-91-0-0-0), T6=CON (0-0-0-0-0-0-0), T7=HYG+CRI, T8=MYG+CRI, T9=IPNS+CRI, T10=STB+CRI, T11=FP+CRI, T12=CON+CRI kg ha-1 CDNPKSZnB for potato. The highest tuber yield of potato was obtained from STB+CRI (27.64 t ha-1) followed by IPNS+CRI (27.35 t ha-1), STB (27.10 t ha-1), IPNS (26.83 t ha-1), HYG+CRI (26.52 t ha-1) and HYG (26.10 t ha-1) in 2006- 07. Similar trend was found in 2007-08. The highest tuber yield and yield contributing parameters were noticed in CRI plots than without CRI. Except N, remaining nutrient balance like P K S Zn and B were found positive in case of HYG, MYG, IPNS and STB along with or without CRI nutrient managements. The balance was found almost negative in case of FP and CON. The highest BCR was observed in STB+CRI (3.96) followed by STB (3.93), IPNS+CRI (3.76), and IPNS (3.74). The higher gross return (Tk. 283331 ha-1) and also gross margin (Tk. 211761 ha-1) was observed from the same treatment. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3329/bjar.v39i4.22544 Bangladesh J. Agril.
