Estimation the magnitude of heterosis for yield and yield contributing parameters of Okra was conducted. Fifty-four F1 hybrids were generated by line x tester mating design. These F1s along with 21 parents and commercial check (Mhyco-10) were evaluated in a randomized block design with two replications. Analysis of variance with respect to yield and quality characters in parents and hybrids were highly significant. This indicates the existence of high variation in parents and hybrids for different characters studied. Out of 54 cross combinations, seven crosses revealed the significant and positive heterosis over better parent. While 11 crosses showed positive and significant heterosis over economic parent. It is pertinent to mention that the crop has potential to produce the heterotic cross combinations and such crosses can be used for further improvement of this crop. Five crosses, namely L43 × T44, L22 × T36, L22 × T44, L53 × T36 and L31 × T23 were found to be potential for the production of fruit yield per plant and other desired characters. The high heterosis and per se performance was found in hybrid L43 × T44 over both better parents and standard check for fruit yield per plant. The heterosis and combining ability studies were conducted by utilizing modified Line X Tester mating design involving 6 Lines and 9 testers of Okra [Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moench]. The breeding material involving fifty four F1 hybrids along with 15 parents with one commercial check were evaluated during Kharif 2020 in a Randomized Block Design (R.B.D.) with three replications at Research Centre of Goldking Biogene Private Limited with an aim to estimate the magnitude of heterosis and to identify the good parents and good hybrid combinations for pod yield and other quantitative traits. Among the parents GKOF-1, GKOF-5 and GOM-7 were found to be good general combiners for pod yield per plot. Among the lines GKOF-3, GKOF-4 and GKOF-6 and testers GKOM-4, GKOM-5, GKOM-7 and GKOM-9 were found to be involved in exhibiting significant sca effects for almost all characters. Among the crosses GKOF-2 X GKOM-5, GKOF-1 X GKOM-8 and GKOF-6 X GKOM-7 exhibited high per se performance for pod yield per plot. Further the cross GKOF-1 X GKOM-7, GKOF-4 X GKOM-9 and GKOF-6 X GKOM-4 revealed highest positively significant sca effects for pod yield per plot.

The present investigation was conducted on heterosis for fruit yield quality attributing characters in okra. Fifteen F1 hybrids were generated by half diallel (excluding reciprocals) mating design. These F1 hybrids along with six parents were evaluated in Randomized Block Design with three replications during late Rabi season of 2018 at three locations HRS, Lam; KVK, V.R.Gudem and KVK, Vonipenta, Andhra Pradesh. Observations were recorded for five randomly selected and tagged plants from each treatment for fruit yield and quality attributing characters viz., number of fruits per plant, fruit length (cm), fruit girth (cm), fruit weight (g), number of seeds per fruit, test weight (g/100), fruit yield per plant (g), fruit yield per hectare (t), fibre content (%), ascorbic acid content (mg/100g) and shelf life (days). The values of F1 hybrids averaged over three replications were used for estimating heterosis and pooled data was obtained. The top five heterotic cross combinations viz., 440-10-1 x HRB-9-2, VRO-6 x HRB-9-2, TCR-1674 x HRB-9-2, VRO-6 x JPM-20-16-39 and VRO-3 x HRB-9-2 were identified as stable with desirable heterosis for fruit yield and other important traits.

Inorganic fertilizers alone cannot sustain high levels of productivity. It may cause deterioration of soil environment leading to low productivity. An investigation was carried out to develop integrated nutrient management technology for fruit yield of bell pepper (Capsicum annuum L.). The experiment was conducted at Horticulture Research Division, Nepal Agricultural Research Council Khumaltar, Lalitpur during 2010/011. The experiment was laid out in a randomized block design with three replications and having seven treatments viz., Control (100% NPK), Azotobacter + 25% N + PK, Azotobacter + 50% N + PK, Azotobacter + 75% N + PK, Azotobacter + FYM + 25% N + PK, Azotobacter + FYM + 50% N + PK, Azotobacter + FYM + 75% N + PK. Background: The development of superior hybrids is must to break the existing yield plateau ( less than 800 kg/ha) in pigeonpea and hence, the genetic mechanism governing the heterosis in pigeonpea must be decoded. Methods: The present study was laid down using randomized block design during kharif 2018-19 at GBPUAT, Pantnagar with 36 genotypes (8 parents and 28 F1 hybrids) of pigeonpea. The estimates of combining ability were evaluated by using the Griffing’s, Method II, Model I. The observations recorded for yield and related traits were subjected to the estimation of genetic diversity (GD) using the D2 statistics. The correlation between heterosis and different parameters viz., parental mean (PM), specific combining ability (SCA), mean of general combining ability (MGCA) and genetic diversity (GD) were estimated by using Pearson’s correlation. Result: High estimates of SCA variance and more than unity ( greater than 1) average degree of dominance for all the characters indicated the presence of over dominance. The SCA followed by MGCA were found to be most reliable parameters to predict the heterosis. The parents having high x low or high x high per se performance, good x poor GCA effects and with medium genetic diversity resulted in high frequency of heterotic hybrids.

The experiment entitled “Efficacy of different types of Composts on growth, yield and quality parameters of Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L.) cv. Kashi Pragati” was conducted during Rabi season of the year 2020-2021 on experimental farm of Department of Horticulture, AKS University, Satna (M.P.). The experiment was laid out in a randomized block design with three replicated 12 treatments viz., T0: Without compost (Control), T1: 100% Vermicompost + 100% Biogas slurry compost, T2: 100% Vermicompost + 100% Mushroom Spent compost, T3: 100% Biogas slurry compost + 100% Mushroom Spent compost, T4: 100% Vermicompost + 100% Biogas slurry compost +100% Mushroom Spent compost, T5: 100% Vermicompost + 50% Biogas slurry compost, T6: 100% Vermicompost + 50% Mushroom Spent compost, T7: 100% Biogas slurry compost + 50% Vermicompost, T8: 100% Biogas slurry compost + 50% Mushroom Spent compost, T9: 100% Mushroom Spent compost + 50% Vermicompost, T10: 100% Mushroom Spent compost + 50% Biogas slurry compost, T11: 50% Vermicompost + 50% Biogas slurry compost +50% Mushroom Spent compost. The results reveal that increase in Composts level had significant response on vegetative growth yield and quality of Okra. The treatment T4-100%Vermicompost +100% Biogas slurry compost +100% Mushroom Spent compost was found to be the best treatment among the different treatments with growth, yield and quality for Okra under satna condition.

An experiment was conducted to determine the effect of nitrogen, phosphorus and potash on growth and yield of okra. The experiment were carried out in randomized block design with three replication of twenty eight treatment combinations including three levels of nitrogen , three levels of phosphorus and three levels of potash. The study revealed that application of 85 kg/ha. Nitrogen phosphorus 60kg/ha and normal dose of potash 40kg/ha. produced significantly maximum plant height, days to 50% flowering, length and width of broad leaf , diameter of fruit and green fruit yield compared to 60 kg/ha, 35 kg/ha , phosphorus 40 kg/ha and 20 kg/ha and potash 60kg/ha and 20kg/ha.. The green fruit yield could be economical and profitable with application 85 kg/ha nitrogen 60 kg/ha phosphorus and normal dose of potash 40 kg/ha of okra in western Utter Pradesh condition.

The present investigation entitled “Studies on economic feasibility and suitability of intercrops in Aonla (Emblica officinalis Gaertn L.) plantation” was carried out during2018- 2019 at the Department of Horticulture, SHUATS, Prayagraj. The result of the present investigation, regarding the effect of inter crops in Aonla plantation on tree growth and fruit yield of Aonla. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Block Design (RBD), replicated thrice with the six intercropping system treatment combination of T0: Sole crop, T1:Spinach, T2:Radish, T3:Tomato, T4:Coriander, T5:Okra and T6: Fenugreek. From the present investigation the treatment T2 Radish is best maximum growth, fruit yield and quality of Aonla tree and was recorded. In the treatment T1 is the best for Intercrop Yield (q/ha) (198.53) under Prayagraj agro-climatic condition.

Eight parental lines of diverse origin of tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) were crossed in 8 × 8 diallel mating design excluding reciprocals. The 28 F1 hybrids along with their parents and one standard check (H-86) were evaluated in a randomized block design with three replications during seasons of rabi 2011-12, 2012-13 and 2013-14. In the present study, revealed that heterosis over better parent, mid parent, standard check and inbreeding depression was observed for all the traits under studies. Highly significant heterosis was observed for days to first flowering (-13.49, -13.52 and -12.28%), number of flowers per cluster (17.90, 22.11 and 24.27%), days to first harvest (-8.01, -11.04 and -9.76%), number of fruit per cluster (39.17, 42.71 and 20.71%), fruit diameter (19.93, 31.43 and 13.27%), fruit length (19.29, 22.34 and 13.35%), Average fruit weight (18.88, 19.41 and 7.80%), number of fruits per plant (25.86, 46.69 and 41.87%) and yield per plant (58.61, 75.61 and 56.33%) over the better, mid and standard parents, respectively along with considerable inbreeding depression. Most promising cross Pant T-3 × H-24 showed highly significant positive heterosis over better parent for yield per plant.

The present experiment on bhendi consisted of 12 parents (9 lines and 3 testers) with their 27 F1 hybrids developed through line x tester mating design with three replications in randomized block design. Parents and hybrids differed significantly for gca and sca effects, respectively. Among the parents, maximum gca effect was found in EC 169329 and Aruna for fruit length, EC 102605 and Arka Anamika for fruit girth, EC 112241 and Arka Anamika for fruit yield per plant, EC 169335 and Aruna for ascorbic acid content, EC 109454 and Arka Anamika for mucilage content. The crosses EC 169331 x Kashi Kranti, EC 102605 x Arka Anamika and EC 169344 x Arka Anamika were found as good specific combiners for fruit length, fruit girth and yield per plant respectively. The hybrids EC 169335 x Aruna and EC 109454 x Arka Anamika exhibited maximum significant positive sca effects for quality traits like ascorbic acid content and mucilage content respectively.

An experiment was conducted at Horticultural Research Centre, SVP University of Agriculture and Technology, Meerut (UP) during Rabi season of 2018-19 to assess the impact of different INM doses on yield and quality parameters of garlic. A total of ten treatments consisting of combinations of inorganic fertilizers, organic fertilizers and bio-fertilizers like T1- (Control), T2RDF (100:50:50 kg NPK ha-1), T3-RDF + 20 kg sulphur + FYM 20 ton ha-1, T4- RDF + 20 kg sulphur + VC 4 ton ha-1, T5- 75% RDF + 40 kg sulphur + 5 ton FYM ha-1+ PSB 5 kg ha-1, T6-75% RDF + 40 kg sulphur + 2 ton VC + Azotobacter 5 kg ha-1, T7- 75% RDF + 40 kg sulphur + FYM 3 ton + VC 1 ton+ PSB 5 kg + Azotobacter 5kg ha-1, T8- 50% RDF + 40 kg sulphur + FYM 5 ton + VC2 ton + PSB 5 kg ha-1, T9- 50% RDF + 40 kg sulphur + FYM5 ton + VC 2 ton+ Azotobacter 5 kg ha-1and T10- 50% RDF + 40 kg sulphur + FYM 5 ton + VC2 ton + PSB 5 kg + Azotobacter 5 kg ha-1 were used in Randomized Block Design and replicated thrice. Out of these an application of T7 (75% RDF + 40 kg sulphur + FYM3 ton + VC 1 ton ha-1 + PSB 5 kg + Azotobacter 5 kg ha-1) was found to be significantly superior in term of yield and attributing parameters of garlic.
