Spent zinc-carbon (dry cell) batteries have negative environmental effects. It is necessary to save the environment from them and take back the mineral values from these batteries. Many engineering materials were contained in the spent batteries. A large amount of anode zinc (zinc casing) was occupied in spent batteries, therefore; it must be recovered on the form of a useful and essential chemical compounds that can be used in daily life. It is found from the chemical composition an anode zinc (zinc casing), it was over 99 percent perspicuous with a very small percentage of traces metals in it. Zinc sulfate was known as a significant food supplement for humans, animals and plants. It can be made by investing the selective corrosion resulted from the chemical reaction between zinc metal and diluted sulfuric acid. Thus, the zinc sulfate heptahydrate was produced. Zinc sulfate heptahydrate resulted from corrosion reactions was tested by XRD and it was found similar to standard patterns. The XRD pattern of zinc sulfate heptahydrate shows four major peaks happened at (2ϴ). The most intense peak for zinc sulfate heptahydrate happened at 27.5°. In addition, to hydrogen gas was produced as a by-product of that reaction.

Abstract. Elkhateeb WA, Daba GM. 2020. Review: The endless nutritional and pharmaceutical benefits of the Himalayan gold, Cordyceps; Current knowledge and prospective potentials. Biofarmasi J Nat Prod Biochem 18: 70-77. As a traditional medicine, Cordyceps has long been used in Asian nations for maintaining vivacity and boosting immunity. Numerous publications on various bioactivities of Cordyceps have been investigated in both in-vitro as well as in vivo studies. Nevertheless, the role of Cordyceps is still arguable whether it acts as food supplement for health benefits or a real healing drug that can be prescribed in medicine. The Cordyceps industry has developed greatly and offers thousands of products, commonly available in a global marketplace. In this review, focus will be on introducing the ecology of Cordyceps and their classification. Moreover, elucidation of the richness of extracts originated from this mushroom in nutritional components was presented, with description of the chemical compounds of Cordyceps and its well-known compounds such as cordycepin, and cordycepic acid. Furthermore, highlights on natural growth and artificial cultivation of famous Cordyceps species were presented. The health benefits and reported bioactivities of Cordyceps species as promising antimicrobial, anticancer, hypocholesterolemic, antioxidant, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, organ protective agent, and enhancer for organ function were presented.

For the study of a steam explosion phenomenon in a nuclear reactor, prototypic corium, a mixture of UO2 and ZrO2 was melted in a cold crucible by applying an induction heating technique. The molten corium was then poured into cold water. It was fragmented into very small particles, so called debris, which enables a very rapid heat transfer to the water. Some cases led to steam explosions by thermal expansion of the water. After the tests, all the debris particles were dried and classified by their size. From the analysis by using EPMA, it was shown that the particles generated by a steam explosion had fine and irregular forms. It is known that real corium (including UO2) hardly leads to a steam explosion, different from pure ZrO2 or metal. A reason for this was previously suggested in that the corium generated hydrogen gas during melt-water interaction, and it enclosed the melt drops to prevent a direct contact of the corium and water. In order to confirm this fact, the debris particles were analyzed with ICP-AES for their typical element contents, EPMA for the homogeneity of the solid solution, XRD for the chemical compounds, and TGA and hydrogen reduction analysis for the percentage of the debris oxidation and reduction. These analyses showed that hydrogen was not directly related to steam explosion. Meanwhile, the material characteristics of the corium compositions are newly suggested to be the most probable reason for the occurrence of a steam explosion so far.

Bio-oil derived from palm empty fruit bunch is not suitable for fuel purpose due to high acidity and low heating. Cr2O3/Zeolite and Cr/C catalysts was developed to upgrade bio-oil through hydrocracking. The catalyst prepared via impregnation method followed by oxidation-reduction. Ammonia and pyridine adsorption used to evaluate acidity as well as crystallinity assessment by using XRD. Hydrocracking reaction conducted in hydrogen gas flow rates 0.5-3.0 L/min, the surface area of Cr/C catalyst found out 1,497.07-1,652.58 m2/g, whilst the temperatures 450 to 700 ℃ and the catalyst weights between 0.5 to 2.5 g. Acidity calculated from ammonia and pyridine adsorption shows Cr2O3/Zeolite has higher value compare to pristine Zeolite. XRD pattern shows Cr2O3/Zeolite has high crystallinity as indicated by sharp and pointed diffraction peaks. The optimum condition of hydrocracking confirmed by lower density of liquid product. The variables obtained by a separate experiments shows that H2 gas flow rate best at 2.5 L/min, temperature of hydrocracking 500 ℃ for Cr2O3/Zeolite and 600oC for Cr/C whereas weight of Cr2O3/Zeolite catalyst is 1.5 g. The Cr/C catalyst that gave low density product possess 1,554.48 m2/g surface area. GCMS data shows increase on the number of straight chain compounds within the hydrocracking product.

Zinc is an essential micro-nutrients for humans and plants. Zinc on humans is obtained from food, especially rice. This research studied the effect of zinc sulfate heptahydrate spraying application, the effect of zinc sulphate heptahydrate enriched urea application, and the interaction of both, on yield and rice zinc grain concentration in Ciherang varieties. The research was carried out by RCBD. The first factor was without spraying zinc sulfate, spraying 75 g ha-1 zinc sulfate heptahydrate and spraying 150 g ha-1 zinc sulfate heptahydrate. The second factor was without zinc sulfate enriched urea, urea enriched by 7.5 kg ha-1 zinc sulfate heptahydrate, and urea enriched by 15 kg ha-1 zinc sulfate heptahydrate. The parameters observed were grain yield, grain zinc concentration, and rice plant growth. Data were analyzed by analysis of variance at 5% and DMRT test at 5%. The results indicated that spraying 75 g ha-1 zinc sulfate heptahydrate increased yield of rice up to 13%, urea enriched by 7.5 kg ha-1 zinc sulfate heptahydrate increased grain yield zinc concentration up to 33%, Combination of spraying  75 g ha-1 zinc sulfate heptahydrate and urea enriched by 7.5 kg ha-1 zinc sulfate heptahydrate can’t increased the yield and zinc grain concentration.<br /><br />Keywords: rice, urea, zinc, zinc sulfate heptahydrate<br /><br />

Two interpenetrated coordination polymers (CPs) {[Zn1(L)(NO2pbda)]n[Zn2(L)(NO2pbda)]n} (1) and [Zn(L)(Brpbda)]n (2) were prepared by reactions of zinc sulfate heptahydrate with N-donor ligands of 1,4-di(1H-imidazol-4-yl)benzene (L) and auxiliary carboxylic acids of nitroterephthalic acid (H2NO2pbda) and 2,5-dibromoterephthalic acid (H2Brpbda), respectively. The structures of the CPs were characterized by Fourier-Transform Infrared (IR) spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The coordination polymer 1 has two different (4, 4) sql 2D layer structures based on the [Zn(L)(NO2pbda)] moiety, which results in inclined interpenetration with a 2D + 2D → 3D architecture, while the CP 2 exhibits a 3-fold interpenetrating dmp network. The diffuse reflectance spectra are also investigated for the CPs 1 and 2.
