Solanum torvum Swartz, belonging to the family Solanaceae, a herb known as “Ca dai hoa trang”, “Ca hoang gai”, “Ca nong”, or “Ca du” in Vietnam, is widely distributed in Vietnam. Solanum torvum has been used as folk medicine to treat various illnesses, such as stomachache, cough, fever, toothache, and bee stings. As a part of our research on genus Solanum in Vietnam, three natural compounds including paniculonin A (1), paniculonin B (2), and isorhamnetin-3-O-glucopyranoside (3) were isolated from the water layer of Solanum torvum collected in Thua Thien - Hue. This is the first time compound 3 was isolated from this species.

The phytochemistry of the genera Androsace, Cortusa, Soldanella, and Vitaliana, belonging to the Primulaceae family is not well studied so far. Hence, in this paper, we present the results of UHPLC-MS/MS analysis of several primrose family members as well as isolation and structure determination of two new saponins from Vitaliana primuliflora subsp. praetutiana. These two nor-triterpenoid saponins were characterized as (23S)-17α,23-epoxy-29-hydroxy-3β-[(O-β-d-glucopyranosyl-(1→2)-O-α-l-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→2)-O-β-d-glucopyranosyl-(1→2)-O-α-l-arabinopyranosyl-(1→6)-β-d-glucopyranosyl)oxy]-27-nor-lanost-8-en-25-one and (23S)-17α,23-epoxy-29-hydroxy-3β-[(O-α-l-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→2)-O-β-d-glucopyranosyl-(1→2)-O-α-l-arabinopyranosyl-(1→6)-β-d-glucopyranosyl)oxy]-27-nor-lanost-8-en-25-one, respectively. Their structures were determined by high resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS), tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS), one- and two-dimensional nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1D-, and 2D-NMR) analyses. So far, the 27-nor-lanostane monodesmosides were rarely found in dicotyledon plants. Therefore their presence in Vitaliana and also in Androsace species belonging to the Aretia section is unique and reported here for the first time. Additionally, eleven other saponins were determined by HRMS and MS/MS spectra. The isolated lanostane saponins can be considered as chemotaxonomic markers of the family Primulaceae.

The inventory and assessment of species diversity in the mono-generic family Begoniaceae C. A. Agardh of Bangladesh were made through long term field investigations, collections, identification, survey and examination of preserved herbarium specimens and review of relevant taxonomic and floristic literature. The family is recognized to be represented in the flora of Bangladesh by 19 species under the genus Begonia L. Of these, 11 species were known to be previously recorded from the area of Bangladesh, hence additional 8 species of the present account are being reported here for the first time as new records from Bangladesh, these are: Begonia grandis Dryand. ssp. holostylla Irmsch. , B. heracleifolia Cham. and Schltdl. Cult., B. maculata Raddi Cult. B. modestiflora Kurz, B. muliensis T. T. Yu. Cult., B. scintillans Dunn, B. surculigera Kurz and B. thomsonii A. DC. An enumeration of these 19 species is prepared, and each species is cited with detailed taxonomic data. All species of the Begonia L. are herbaceous in nature and possess potential economic values, viz. 11 (52%) medicinal, 5 (24%) ornamental, 3 (14%) beverage, 1 (5%) food and 1 (5%) poisonous. Determination of status of occurrence showed that 2 (10.53%) species are common, 5 (26.32%) cultivated, 9 (47.36%) threatened and 3 (15.79%) possibly extinct in Bangladesh. For the first time, during the investigation of the Ag submonolayer on the Ge(111) system, large, independent domains of the Ge (111)-(3×1) Ag phase were imaged and investigated. Previous studies have reported it only as small insets between Ge (111)-(4×4) Ag and Ge (111)- c (2×8) domains. The transmission electron diffraction data were analyzed using a Direct Methods approach and "heavy-atom holography," with the result of an atomic model of the structure similar to that of Ge (111)-(3×1) Ag .

The phosphine complexes M-PH3 (1), M-PH2Me (2). M-PH2Ph (3). and M-PH2/Bu (4) with M = Cr(CO)5. Mo(CO)5, W(CO)5, MnCp(CO)2. of which 2 and 4 were prepared for the first time, were reacted with Co2(CO)8. All four PH3 complexes yielded the clusters M-PCo3(CO)9 (5) with external M units as confirmed by a crystal structure determination of (CO)5W-PCo3(CO)9. Of the RPH2 complexes 2 and 3 the chromium and tungsten compounds gave open trinuclear complexes of the type M-PRCo2(CO)7 (6, R = Me: 7, R = Ph). The manganese containing complexes 2 and 3 and Co2(CO)8 formed the dinuclear compounds Cp(CO)2Mn(μ-PRH)Co(CO)3 (8d, R = Me; 9d, R = Ph). The molybdenum containing complexes 2 and 3 yielded unstable compounds of higher nuclearity with Co2(CO)8. The tBuPH2 complexes 4 did not react.

K3BiO3 and Rb3BiO3 have been synthesized for the first time by solid state reactions of the respective binary compounds. K3BiO3 was obtained from Bi2O3 and K2O at 550 °C, Rb3BiO3 from Bi2O3 and Rb2O at 650 °C. The compounds were structurally examined by single-crystal X -ray investigations (K3BiO3: I 4̅ 3 m, a = 1070.15(2) pm, Z = 8; Rb3BiO3: P 21 3, a = 875.48(2) pm, Z = 4). The structures reveal “isolated” BiO33- groups. While K3BiO3 is isostructural to Na3BiO3, Rb3BiO3 has the same crystal structure as Cs3BiO3.

The aerial part of Astragalus glycyphyllos L. (Astragali glycyphylli herba), a promising nephroprotective agent in folk medicine, has been investigated by HPLC-UV for occurrence of catechins, which are known in individual state as renoprotective substances and gallic acid. The following six compounds were detected and quantitatively determined in the analyzed plant material: (-)-gallocatechin, (-)-epigallocatechin, (+)-catechin, (-)-epicatechin, (-)-epicatechin gallate and gallic acid. The highest yield amongst the flavan-3-ols was found for (-)-gallocatechin (3.7 mg/g) and (-)-epigallocatechin (1.7 mg/g). The determined content of gallic acid was 0.4 mg/g. The investigated material should be subjected for further studies to substantiate the recommendation for its wider employment in current phytotherapeutic practice. Dhaka Univ. J. Pharm. From the aerial parts (700g) of berberis sibirica pall. 6 isoquinoline alkaloids of protoberberine, protopine, benzophenantridine and proaporphine type were isolated. The known alkaloids (-)-tetrahydropseudocoptisine, pseudoprotopine, (+)-chelidonine and (+)-glaziovine are new for the family berberidaceae. from the aerial part ii (3.9 kg) 14 isoquinoline alkaloids of aporphine, proaporphine, protoberberine, protopine, benzylisoquinoline, bisbenzylisoquinoline,proaporphine-benzylisoquinoline and simple isoquinolin type were isolated and identified. The aporphine alkaloid 1-o-methylisotebaidine and simple isoquinoline dehydrocorypalline have been found for the first time in the family of berberidaceae. From the roots of b. sibirica 10 isoquinoline alkaloids of protoberberine, benzylisoquinoline, bisbenzylisoquinoline, aporphine-benzylisoquinoline and proaporphine-benzylisoquinoline type were isolated. 1,10-di-omethylpakistanine has been reported for the first time as a natural alkaloid. The known alkaloids (-) -isothalidezine and (+)-armepavine have been found for the first time in the family berberidaceae. The chemical composition of essential oils obtained by hydrodistillation method from two plants of the genus Scutellaria, grown in Uzbekistan and used in folk medicine were comparatively investigated by GC/MS and FID. Overall individually thirty three constituents were identified in both of aerial parts of S. adenostegia and S. comosa essential oils, representing 94.4 and 97.0% of the total, respectively. The main components were determined as acetophenone (24.2%), eugenol (12.3%), caryophyllene oxide (8.9%), and β-caryophyllene (7.0%) in the oil of S. adenostegia. β-Caryophyllene (12.5%), phytol (11.4%), linalool (11.1%), acetophenone (10.4%), caryophyllene oxide (6.6%),1-hexanol (5.3%), and (E)-2-hexenal (5.1%) were found as major components in the S. comosa oil. The composition of the oils of S. adenostegia and S. comosa was being reported for the first time. The essential oils of S. adenostegia and S. comosa showed significant antimicrobial properties against Bacillus subtilis, moderate effect against Salmonella enterica and Escherichia coli.

The species from genus Thymus are polymorphous plants from the family Lamiaceae, spread in Serbia in many species, subspecies, varieties, and forms. The aerial parts of species from genus Thymus have a long tradition of being used worldwide. The subject of this study was the research of ethnomedicinal application of thyme in Pirot County (Southeastern Serbia). Ethnomedicinal surveys were conducted among the population in four municipalities: Pirot, Babušnica, Bela Palanka, and Dimitrovgrad. It was noticed that 56.9 % of interviewed persons use the species of genus Thymus in the Pirot County. They are usually used in the county's folk medicine in the form of herbal tea against colds to relieve dry and spastic cough, especially in bronchitis and asthma, and for sedation.
