To improve the logical thinking ability of Papuan students, this research was conducted. The material subject of this research is how to solve the wide of the area under the normal curve.  The subject of the research is Papuan students in Class of Statistika Dasar in Mathematics Education major in STKIP Surya Tangerang 2016/2017 academic year. The methods of this research are Qualitative. Data had collected with Test and interview and to data analysis was using Descriptive Qualitative. The design of this research used Action Research.  The result showed that 1) Students with the high math problem-solving skill the area under the normal curve have been able to think coherently, as well as could completion of the work in consecutively and correctly. 2) Students with the math problem-solving ability, have been able to think coherently already did the problem in order, but still make errors in final calculation, because careless. 3) Students with low ability in math problem solving, have been able to think coherently already do the problem in order, but there was still a lot of mistake calculations in basic calculations like a division of integer, and as well as the final calculations. Kata Kunci: action, logical, thinking, curve, normal

This research is a qualitative research aimed to disclose math problem-solving ability based on Polya steps on SPLDV’s material  in term of student personalities melancholy (ME). Instruments used for this research are : 1) personality test is used  to categorize the students based on their personality, 2) math problem-solving test is used to show  students' ability in solving mathematical problems based on Polya steps, and 3) guided interview is contained guidelines aim to clarify answers and trace the process of students’ thought in depth. Data are collected by test and interview  and analyzed by using Miles and Huberman’s data analysis. The research processes are: (a) formulated the indicators based on math problem-solving on Polya steps (b) formulated a valid and reliable instrument (personality test, math problem-solving task and guided interview) (c) collected the subject by providing personality type, (d) collected data to show the description of math problem-solving is done by the students, (e) did time triangulation to get valid data, (f) performed data analysis problem-solving based on personality types, (g) conducted a discussion of the results of analysis, (h) drew conclusions of the research. The results showed the subject of melancholy did the Polya steps in problem-solving, which are (1) understand the problem (2) plan a settlement (3) settle a plan (4) check back.

By looking at the learning result of Lecturer of DIII Mechanical Engineering Department of Harapan Bersama seen the lack of understanding of the students understanding the subject matter of Applied Mathematics. The objective of the research is to produce a mathematics learning device with Think Talk Write model based on Hand On Activity to improve the valid ability of troubleshooting, practical, and effective math problem solving. This research is a development research using 4D model that is modified into 3D consists of defining, designing and developing phases. The types of devices developed are: (1) Syllabus; (2) Semester Study Plan; (3) Modules and (4) Worksheets , and (5) Troubleshooting Test. The subject of this research is the D III students of Mechanical Engineering Department. Independent variables of this research are independence and problem-solving skills, while the dependent variable is the result of Troubleshooting test. Conclusions gained (a) Students achieved mastery individually (scores above 80) as well as classical, (b) The ability of troubleshooting of Applied Mathematics in a class that uses Think Talk Write model devices based on Hand On Activity is better than the ability of class math problem solving with conventional method, (c) The existence of influence of independence character and problem solving skill to troubleshooting ability of subject Applied Mathematics equal to 90%.
