In conditions of today's globalization, franchising is one of the most successful forms of doing business. Global companies carry out their activities in different countries around the world and have a significant impact on the formation of international economic relations. In many countries around the world, where franchising has already become widespread, it is seen as a new, progressive system of business establishment and business relations that meet the needs of today's market. The article analyzes the nature of franchising, theoretical and practical aspects of franchising as an effective form of cooperation between a franchisor who owns a successful business and a franchisee who receives a permission to use the franchisor's business scheme for a fee, for a some period of time, it examines  the history of emergence of such a phenomenon as franchising. Franchising should be seen as an economic relationship between independent businesses entities that involves the contractual delegation of intellectual property rights, the provision of intellectual business resources, and the constant  specialization and cooperation of  efforts of these entities aiming to ensure their market competitiveness and development. It is found out that the subjects of franchising relations expect for a kind of exchange: they agree on a certain restriction of their rights, the transfer of certain resources in exchange of additional opportunities in their competitiveness. It is proved that franchising promotes the trend of standardization, namely, spreads certain standards of doing business and production technologies, creates opportunities for receiving the  economies of scale, forms and replicates certain standards of consumption and economic lifestyle. The main problems of development of this form of innovative business in Ukraine have been determined, as research has shown, as the system of obstacle factors, which  are  created by factors of institutional support, economic factors, socio-psychological factors, infrastructural factors. The essence of becoming a franchise form of business.

The problem of linkage between “nontrade” subjects and the World Trade Organization is certainly one of the most pressing and challenging policy puzzles for international economic relations and institutions today. It is extensively and harshly debated by political leaders and diplomats, at both the national and the international levels of discourse, and is one of several issues that derailed the WTO Third Ministerial Conference in Seattle in late 1999. It also posed problems for the Fourth Ministerial Conference in Doha, Qatar, in November of 2001, and it threatens to derail the successful functions of the WTO itself.

Business education in the world is developing at a fairly high pace. The reason for this is the possibility of exchanging experience between different countries in the field of entrepreneurial technologies, as well as the need to improve the relationship between the "scientific minds" of different countries. In this regard, the leading educational institutions of the world develop and implement various training programs aimed at improving the skills of students in the field of marketing, management, the world economy, as well as international economic relations. International business education should be studied from the perspective of measuring the effect of internationalization of business schools and training programs by offering international training courses, foreign exchanges, subsidiaries, knowledge exports, various types of cooperation.

The current state of the world economy is characterized by instability and mobility. In the context of a protracted crisis, aggravated by the COVID-19 pandemic, competitive contradictions between the leading actors in international economic relations and world politics are exacerbating. Each of them is trying to fix the positions they have won in the world arena, resorting to the tools of economic and military diplomacy to achieve their strategic goals. The confrontation between old and new world leaders of the world economy is being transferred not only to traditional markets, but also to new ones, which were previously on the periphery of their economic interests. The African continent today, like in the nineteenth century, attracts more and more close attention of the leading states of the world. Rich in natural resources, it becomes an arena for the struggle for control over it from the United States, China, and European countries. Taking into account the fact that for Russia the field of foreign economic activity has significantly narrowed in recent years, its return to Africa should become one of the priorities of the national foreign economic strategy. In the above context, it seems relevant to comprehensively study the stages of development of economic relations between Russia and African countries and, based on historical experience, to identify the shortcomings and failures of economic policy in relations with African partners. When writing the article, the authors used general scientific research methods, primarily the dialectical method of cognition, the logical and historical method, deduction and induction, and mathematical methods. In the course of the study, the following results were achieved. (1) Based on the analysis of historical documents, the nature of the economic relations of the Russian Empire with African countries at various stages of their evolution has been determined. It has been established that, at the initial stage of interaction, Russia, in its desire to establish economic contacts with the states in the region, relied on the principle of respect for their sovereignty as independent states, independent subjects of international economic relations; however, at the following stage, associated with the beginning of the colonial division of Africa by the European powers, Russia was forced to passively participate in the colonial aggression against the countries of the region, entering into international agreements with the colonialists on the status of African countries. (2) Based on the processing of statistical data on the foreign trade of the Russian Empire with African countries and territories, a tendency has been revealed that characterizes the gradual curtailment of Russia’s economic activity in this region.

Global companies, transforming their own environment of functioning, are oriented first of all on changing the logic of classical capitalistic relations and behavior. In this context, these companies are trying to implement their strategies of corporate social responsibility which is essentially an additional socialized instrument limiting the regulative competences of the state. In this chapter, we assess the potential prospects of non-regulated globalization which today takes into account only the corporate interests of the largest businesses, in particular, those interests which eventually may lead to the world division into its incorporated and non-incorporated parts. This, in turn, will lead to the situation when the world markets of mass consumption are not connected at all to the local markets of resources and production factors. In the final part of this chapter we also make an attempt to present some sort of an alternative to the globalized concept – development of self-sufficient economy. The latter does not fully exclude external economic relations as such and/or exploitation of market potential or resources from foreign states. However, this self-sufficient economy makes national economic policy much more socially oriented (aiming at fairness and social justice). At the same time, it is also more expansionary when it comes to external policy (that is, aimed at “grooming” highly competitive so-called national champions, the expansion of which at the world markets must be fully supported by the state).

Glass beads have been produced and traded for millennia all over the world for use as everyday items of adornment, ceremonial costumes or objects of barter. The preservation of glass beads is good and large hoards have been found in archaeological sites across the world. The variety of shape, size and colour as well as the composition and production technologies of glass beads led to the motivation to use them as markers of exchange pathways covering the Indian Ocean, Africa, Asia, Middle East, the Mediterranean world, Europe and America and also as chronological milestones. This review addresses the history of glass production, the methodology of identification (morphology, colour, elemental composition, glass nanostructure, colouring and opacifying agents and secondary phases) by means of laboratory based instruments (LA-ICP-MS, SEM-EDS, XRF, NAA, Raman microspectroscopy) as well as the mobile instruments (pXRF, Raman) used to study glass beads excavated from sub-Saharan African sites. Attention is paid to the problems neglected such as the heterogeneity of glass (recycled and locally reprocessed glass). The review addresses the potential information that could be extracted using advanced portable methods of analysis.
